My overall grade for Dragon Star is: D+
Since this is a neighborhood Chinese place, my benchmark is other neighborhood places we've been to as we've lived in different places. We're coming from the Chicago area, where admittedly, there are 'tons' of Chinese restaurants, there are multiple options for us. In Heber City, this seems to be "the place" to go and really, the only Chinese food restaurant besides chains or places that also server other types of Asian food.
Our go-to order is always, fried-rice, egg rolls and General Tso's chicken plus some sort of beef dish. So this was our 1st time trying this place and order the dinner combos exactly what we order almost every time.
Firstly, what basically "saves" this rating is the fried rice, which was 'decent', but not great or awesome.
Egg Rolls - nope. General Tso's chicken had SO MUCH breading on them that it took a bit to get to the actual chicken. No bueno. The beef was 'ok' and just ok.
Egg drop soup, nope - hot & sour soup - nope. So much corn starch to thicken up the soup that made it inedible.
We will be moving to the area next year and were really hoping to find 'our spot' locally for Chinese food.
For those of you that watch YouTube, Joshua Weissman is one of our favorite chefs who does things like: "But better..." - where he takes a take-out dish and makes it at home but better.
So, for the next year, we'll be practicing our "But better" techniques to replicate our favorite Chinese food, until another place opens up in Heber.
Sadly, we will not be visiting again.
I would pass on this place - one of the reviews here says, that they would be going to Panda Express next time...
Read moreI absolutely love eating here. Although when I go it's usually on a date and I let them know in advance the bills probably going to be around $60 because we ordered like six full plates and that does not cover the white rice comes with some of the dishes, plus we get egg drop soup and egg rolls for appetizers. The food seems pretty authentic it always tastes good it's always hot. The staff there are an older couple I believe. They can sometimes be a bit hard to understand but just be patient and communicate. They are very accommodating as far as you know one thing extra sweet and sour sauce or just this or that they're just really it's a great place to go. If you like shrimp you have got to try the shrimp cashew it is so super good! And they're sweet and sour chicken is phenomenal... I just cannot think of a dish that I have not just absolutely loved! I highly...
Read moreAfter many decades this place is still better than most other places in town. I've had Chinese in the big cities and they aren't as good as these guys. Locals understand and I'm ok with that.
The best cheese wantons, ham fried rice and egg drop soup I have ever had in my travels. I recommend the sweet and sour anything, the dragon star sweet and sour chicken (yes its different), the lo mein noodles w/ crispy noodles, sesame chicken, the moo goo gai pan and the egg foo young with beef.
Currently only pick up sadly. I miss coming in here to eating once a week with my family.
They never take longer than 10-20 mins. The lady is always super nice. Sometimes they use too much breading but it really isn't a big deal if you ask for extra sauce. It's the only real option for Chinese in town and I'm...
