Moved here a year ago and started going weekly to Lupe's just east of Memorial City Mall. Service was good most of the time and someone walked around and asked every table how things were going. We had found our weekly Mexican fix!
The food is good, not the cheapest around, but the plates are more than plenty for 2 to share if you don't like the prices.
In the last 6 months, perhaps a little longer, the service is unbearable. We order the same thing every week and they NEVER GET IT RIGHT! Even salt on the margarita...each week, they serve me salt when I specifically asked for "no salt". I have entertained myself and my husband each week thinking of a way to place creative emphasis on asking for no salt thinking that it will get the attention of the waiter and they will remember. NOT! Perhaps I should have asked for extra salt, then I would get no salt. And the worst thing is that each week I order cheese enchiladas with green sauce, no rice, and extra pico de gallo. I specifically will say, "I don't want rice anywhere on or near my plate." My enchies come with rice sticking under and on the side every time and I always have to ask for the pico as I scrape rice off my plate. Good thing the only allergy I have to rice is that it makes my arse bigger. ;-) Pity anyone who has real allergies who tries to eat here!
Once we had to send my entire plate back twice because they got the entire thing wrong. This is exacerbated by the fact that (like in so many restaurants today) someone other than your waiter brings your meal to you. Makes no sense! The waiters here bring water, chips, and salsa as well as make table-side guacamole. This distracts them and prevents them from taking care of their tables when it is most important: refilling drinks and delivering food so you know if the right thing is delivered.
They are super slow...you will not get your bar drinks until just before your meal comes...we have taken to running by the bar first to get our drinks before we are seated.
We tried one more time last week and noticed that the manager/supervisor has given up coming around to ask if everything is OK...guess they always got the same resounding, "No!"
Having had so many bad experiences, I have met the manager a few times and he is a kind and hospitable man. But the waiters just seem to not have the training or tools that they need to do a good job.
I long for the days of the ramshackle Lupe's off Hwy 6. It is still there, but the other locations are just not Lupe's the way it was. But, I would settle for decent service with no salt and no rice. Alas, either Los Cucos on Studewood or El Tiempo on Washington will have to become our new...
Read moreI don’t normally write reviews but today it was just so disappointing. If taking a few minutes and writing this helps that another family does not experience what we did that is all that matters here! I was excited to take to my family for Brunch, I had the opportunity to go to the Sugar-land location with my sister and loved it. I brag about it to my husband and kids and invited them to brunch this morning, but regret choosing this location. To start host who took us to our table did not greet us literally just made hand gesture for us to follow him. We arrive at the table and we needed more space, we were a party of 7. My husband asked the host if we can join the table beside it he yes but just stood there. My son and daughter proceeded to move the tables and put them together. Which normally you would think the staff would take care of that. We sat, our waiter shows up all serious no greeting nothing super frowned faced like if he was upset that they sat us at his station did not feel welcome at all. He practically tossed the coaster on the table, once done he did finally greeted us with an Hello and took our drink order. That alone just ruin the mood. We place our order. Food came out. My husband and son order the spicy chilaquiles, now they eat spicy food all the time but this dish was extremely spicy to the point of they could not enjoy the dish. It was not enjoyable the waiter saw that both my husband and son put their dish to the side but throughout out the entire time did not offer if they wanted to exchange or anything. It was not until the end when we asked the waiter if their “spicy”was always that extreme he said yes and that it depends on everyone's pallets since they are all different. At this point he now offers if he can exchange but everyone else was done eating and we were just ready to go. The experience was just bad. Service was bad. Note: when the waiter dropped off check at that point we did get a “have a great rest of your day!” Please note that regardless of the bad experience and 2 full dishes not being eaten, we paid bill entirely with a...
Read moreI have been a frequent flyer at multiple Lupe tortilla locations for many years. Lupe tortilla is my all-time favorite Mexican restaurant and I have not found one to top it. Margaritas are top-notch, the fajitas and Enchiladas are the best in the world. And service is usually Spectacular! Until last night, My boyfriend and I came to this location, which we usually love - we sat at the bar -our norm - and our server’s name was Joseline. I usually don’t complain. And I know everyone has their good and bad days, but this girl has no business being in the service industry if this is how she acts on a daily basis. We both ordered a large top shelf Margarita on the rocks with tajin, as we normally do. These margaritas were terrible. We drank a few sips, even switched margaritas to see if both of them were the same - they were. We started by asking if she used top shelf tequila, thinking maybe that was the issue. She immediately got offended and snappy and said she makes her margaritas the same every single time and never has complaints. I mentioned maybe it’s a bad batch of mix, or maybe the mix was almost to the end of the bucket and that’s why it was so pungent. She really did not want to hear it. We shrugged our shoulders and assumed we’d have to just suck it up and drink the drinks, since she was offering no real solution or asking any questions to try to help us out. She then began to ignore us the rest of the time - Wouldn’t even look in our direction, so finally I called Justin over, who has been our server in the past. He immediately, no questions asked, made us fresh margaritas, and was very attentive and helpful for the rest of the evening. Joseline never looked our direction again, the rest of the night. Later we saw a fresh batch of mix come out of the kitchen, which solidified our thoughts of the first margarita being from the bottom of the last batch. In our past experiences, we have had managers routinely stop by to check in and make sure everything is going good. Unfortunately, that did not happen last night, so we were unable to share our situation with anyone, which is why I resort to this platform. This experience will not stop me from visiting Lupe tortilla, but will definitely push me towards going to other locations...
