Honestly, this place was great ! I would give five stars but, there were a few hiccups that happened while we were there.
Here are some pro-tips so, you can have your best experience.
ASK FOR A DRINK MENU ! I was in the bar with my parents and, I asked for a mule. The cocktail waitress didnot even give me options (I didnot know there were any) and, then when I went to the restaurant when our table was ready our waitress (Amber, you’re awesome) asked what kind of mule and, showed me the mule menu. PFT ! Of course I want a huckleberry mule ! Wish my first drink would have been as good or that I would have known I had choices. This is just a service thing.
All of our glasses had water stains/ were dirty. So, we sent them back 6 times. Our poor waitress I felt bad. But, they should be clean OR, if the dishwasher is causing water strains have the bus boy take a clean cloth and wipe the glasses real quick before going out on the floor.
The cup of French onion soup was amazing. I’m not a huge fan of cheese but IT WAS SO GOOD ! I highly recommend this appetizer.
Donot order the pork schnitzel. It was awful. I wish I would have taken a picture of it. It’s breaded and fried pork on egg noodles. Gross ! It’s a mid-western meal that honestly, in my humble opinion, does not belong at this wonderful spot. It was gross.
*GET THE BISON WELLINGTON ! *You will not be disappointed ! My boyfriend who ordered the schnitzel ate one bite and hated it. So, we shared my Wellington. THE BEST DISH - SO YUMMY !!! Slow cooked, juicy and Just right. Seriously. I’m coming back just for this dish. MIND BLOWN. THANK YOU !
Make a reservation ! These guys are fantastic and get busy. You can sit in the bar ahead of time and get a drink while you wait for your table to be ready.
THANK YOU FOR BEING COVID SAVVY! Yes, there’s a pandemic raging right now and, this place gets gold stars in my book for BEING ON TOP OF IT ! Great job spacing tables (however, I would suggest that tables be staggered instead of directly across from each other as that would provide more than 6feet of space in the isle.
THANK YOU FOR A GREAT DINNER WHILE WE WERE VISITING MY PARENTS !
You guys did great other than the very minor things mentioned above which can easily be corrected. I bet I come back here in a few months and, change my review to 5 solid stars. Great service for the most part (except in the bar) and, fantastic food (other than the pork...
Read moreOur experience was insulting! Not only did the waiter lie to our face but the owner did as well! We drove from Great Falls to have dinner for our anniversary. My husband ordered the prime rib and I ordered the special. A couple was seated next to us and put in their order after us, they wanted 2 prime rib dinners but the waiter told them he needed to check with the kitchen to see if they still had prime rib left. He came back and told them that he "Hooked them up" the man asked if it was 1 piece cut in half, the waiter assured him it was two cuts of prime rib. The waiter then turned to my husband and handed him a menu and said they were all out of prime rib! I told him that I just heard what he said to the very next table! He said oh no they are not getting prime rib we are all sold out. So my husband ordered a steak. Our food came and it was not bad, but is was not great it was okay. I then saw the couple next to us get Two prime rib dinners brought to their table!! We were shocked. My husband confronted the waiter, and he didnt want to listen to what my husband wanted to say so he said he was sending the manager. The owner came and started right away defending the waiter and tried to explain it was the kitchen at fault and that the couple ordered prime rib sandwiches not dinners and our order was taken by the kitchen after the other table. So I told him that mistakes happen and we could understand, but why did the waiter have to lie? I told him what happened and my husband asked why didn't we see prime rib sandwich on the menu? The owner said it is on the menu.( I checked the menu online and sure enough, he lied as well! it is not on the menu huh!) So after hearing that the waiter lied he said he was so sorry and it was not right and that he wanted to make up for what happened. He said he wanted us to come back and give his place another try and make sure my husband got the prime rib so he gave us a gift card for a whopping $25! That's not even enough for the gas to drive to Helena from Great Falls! We didn't ask for a discount or a free meal in fact we didn't even ask for an apology all we wanted was the truth, but that takes integrity something that the owner and staff of the Silver Star do not have. So no I do not recommend this place... the prices are much higher than the quality. Take your hard earned money and go to Spuds.... better food,...
Read moreMediocre Fare at an Exorbitant Price! Environment: Very nice, warm and comfortable, not too fancy or over done. (Bar stools are too tall which crams legs into the underside of bar) Service: Front desk was very friendly, beyond that, staff did not seem well informed about the food or beverages and more interested in visiting amongst themselves than tending to the customer. Food: (Apparently there is a happy hour menu, but, not provided) I considered one of the "Best Steaks in Montana" ($58), Duck or Fish ($40) and finally chose "Spicy Shrimp Pomodoro" ($30). As indicated, was spicy to my liking. This included: SMALL green salad (no dressing choice offered), small loaf of bread and butter, and a large dinner bowl of the entrée. The Entrée: Served in a large dinner bowl, was nicely sauced bowl full of gnocchi (about 2 pounds), it included 5 average size shrimp (21/25 = 3-4 ounces), garnished with a little shaved parmesan cheese and crumbled dry bay leaf that was not soft fresh green garnish, so spat out. The portion of protein : starch was about 1:8 (way out of proportion). This dish should be called "Spicy Gnocchi Pomodoro with a Little Bit of Shrimp Garnish" (and use parsley or some fresh green for color, not dry bay leaf). Summary: Apparently there is not "chef" in the kitchen... and I was there to dine, not to work. Next time I will choose the Ramen Restaurant directly across the street, and I will certainly be...
