Wow!!! After a year living abroad (post pandemic), I have just returned to Hemet and have been looking forward to my previously favorite Sushi Combination "B" at the Osaka restaurant. Man! I am sorry to say that the place has really gone downhill since I have been away. I walked in on a Monday (August 12th) pre-dinner rush at around 5pm and placed a to-go order. I had a bottle of my favorite sake waiting for me in the fridge at home and was so-o-o-o looking forward to some decent sushi & sake. (Yes, my enthusiasm for sushi in Hemet is somewhat tempered, but at the very least I expect decent for $28.00.) When I got home I soon realized, upon closer look, that 75% of the nigiri and the tekamaki roll was at least 36 hours old. In the case of the Maguro and Tako nigiri, it was more like a full two-days old!!! It is unbelievable that they would send a customer home with sushi so old!!! Unbelievable!!! I called them and let the manager have it. He checked with the sushi chef and apologized profusely, but the damage was done, and I was in no mood to get back into my hot car with what I didn't have the courage to eat for a partial refund. So Bummed! In my experience, Sushi chefs in the States are infamous for profiling customers -- ie: "I can give this guy the crap because he probably doesn't know Saba from Stater Bros." For what it's worth, I lived in Kansai for three years, so I do know a lil' sum-sum about sushi. And yes -- I did eye the sushi chef when I came in (he was not the same guy), and he eyed me. The entire staff was unrecognizable for that matter -- save for one guy (probably the mgr). Such extreme employee turnaround is usually not a good sign. They did offer me a 50% discount on my next order, but we're talking sushi here. You send a customer home with two day old sushi??? What the hell is that??? I'll tell you what it is, it's the ultimate form of negligence and greed. I guess I am going to have to stick with Samurai Sushi in the mall. So...
Read moreOkee dokee - long review. I was going to say there are 3 sushi restaurants in Hemet at this time, but I see there are 4 restaurants that bill themselves as sushi restaurants. I'm comparing Spicy Sushi & Grill to those I've eaten at. I'm a picky eater of sushi & sashimi. This particular sushi restaurant is by far the most consistent in terms of quality, taste, pricing & service. The prices are reasonable in my estimation.
I've eaten at the sushi restaurant in the Penney Mall & they're expensive, service is ok. I'm not impressed. I've eaten at the "other" sushi restaurant further west, on Florida. I wasn't impressed with them either. I checked a sushi restaurant in San Jacinto on State St., won't go back there, not that the food was terrible, it was dull & uninspiring & the atmosphere was reminiscent of a local coffee shop. There is a Chinese restaurant (if you want to call it that), in the Wal-Mart shopping center, that serves a variety of things, yes things. That is the worst sushi I've ever eaten. I ordered a sashimi salad & the fish tasted like it was frozen defrosted. I ate some thing else that that was equally bad & utterly tasteless. It was really bad, haven't been back.. Sme one should report this place to the health de- partment. As for the cleanliness, hard to tell. I've sat at sticky tables & counters, I think they could do a little better on that. It's dark inside to, but not unlike many small sushi restaurants I've eaten at. Would I recommend Spicey Sushi Grill to others? Yes, & will continue. Will I return to Spicey Sushi Grill? Yes,
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give this restaurant a 7. I'm not terribly im- pressed with anything I've had in Temecula or Murietta (including the independently owned chain that operates in Menifee/Canyon Lake.

Read moreUpdated from going there more! Because they're good! Again, a foreword to Hemet residents, sushi takes time. Unless you're at the bar expect to wait a bit. That sushi. If you are at a table and throw a fit because you haven't gotten your food within 20 minutes and they are busy, you are a baby and everyone will know it. Anyhow, I've tried about 7 of the rolls now and they've all been beautifully constructed! The double pleasure roll had a bit much for veggies for me but I know many would love it, the dragon roll with its eel tastes delicious, the sauce is just sweet enough, and it goes down smooth. On busy nights (remarkably they're even busy on Mondays, when I first went) it can get a little hectic but as taxed as the waitresses might be they never show it and have shown a great deal of patience with myself as well as others. Overall, I think they're great and a wonderful addition to the city, they're growing nicely and the owner/manager dialogues openly with you if you have any concerns. I appreciate that. Website could use a little work but I mean I go here for sushi not for web browsing. That said they have a nice gallery on the site if one is curious. That's cool. An aside, This place both makes me happy for hemet's future and simultaneously makes me disappointed in the residents of hemet. The atmosphere is great but some of the older customers the first time I went were insanely demanding of attention and slowed down the whole process for everyone. 3 older ladies basically taking up the attention of one of the chefs the entire time they were there with their demands. That said the staff there handle it all in stride and you get your delicious...
