It’s been a really long time since I have gone to a Polly Pie’s, so when my husband drove by it he insisted we drop in and have lunch and I am so glad he did. My mom and I used to come and have mom and daughter date lunches together when I was a young child. I absolutely loved this place growing up. They have a great food selection and the service is always very good. Our waitress Tamera was absolutely amazing and so good with my youngest daughter and made her feel very special. She was courteous and friendly and always had a smile on her face. She made us feel like longtime friends and was so cheerful and prompt with her service. This was definitely the highlight of the restaurant was the customer service provided by her. I wish this was the way most restaurants treated their customers, as it was a huge part I am giving them a 5 star review. The food of course was as good, as I remember it as a child. I had a Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes, southern styled green beans and a roll. My hubby got the Philly cheesesteak and fries and my little girl went all out and got a big bowl of fruit and a milk. The best part about the steak was it was a great size portion and not one of those little thin patties you’ll sometimes get, so I was very happy to see them giving a generous portion of meat. Potatoes obviously one of my favorite sides was amazing and just the right amount of gravy and the green beans, spectacular. If you ever haven’t tried southern green beans, go try them. They are amazing! I make them at home all the time with my family and all 8 kids we have from ages 2-23 years love them. Anyways, as far as cleanliness, they do a very impressive job with making sure the restaurant was kept clean, even though I believe they may have had a car hit the side of their building. I didn’t think too much about that though, as it is in Hemet and Hemet doesn’t always have the best people living there. Besides, it looked like they were almost done with restoration and they were doing an amazing job keeping everything clean and tidy. I only mention this though, as if you follow my review and go try the food yourself you may wonder why that wasn’t mention. I’m telling you though from the looks of how many people where their having lunch’s and breakfast, no one seemed to mind at all and neither did I. Can’t blame them for someone else’s mistakes. I’m just keeping my eyes on what and how they did. Prices to are very reasonable and that is always appreciated. All in all, definitely making this my come to spot and maybe make it my daughters and I regular attendees of this establishment. Thank you all for making this...
Read moreAvoid the potatoes!!!! Clearly no one cooking there has a clue how to properly prepare them in any format offered on the breakfast menu. The home fries were pale, under cooked under seasoned, clearly of the frozen variety and a total waste of time. The potato pancakes were disgustingly wrong. Mixing some uncooked hashbrowns (again of the frozen variety) into a scoop of runny mashed potatoes, burning the "pancake" black on one side and barely browning the other does not make anything resembling edible food and the soggy slop of a result is not helped by the sour cream and onion thrown on the top. The hashbrowns like the home fries were again, pale, under cooked, under seasoned and a total waste of time. Much more liberal use of butter, cooking oil, or even lard along with some real attempt at seasoning would go a long way to fix the potato problem. The pancake however is a total loss and should either be removed from the menu or revamped with a completely new methodology in its construction.
The other food items in the meal eaten by the table for four were poor to mediocre in quality, excluding the "baked" goods which were quite good. The chicken fried steak is however just bland breaded mystery meat and should also be avoided.
The wait staff service was adequate but in need of polish, the real service issue was in the kitchen. Serving burnt black food to a guest and hiding the fact that it was burnt by sending it out burnt side down should never happen.
Go for the pie. eat elsewhere for a good...
Read moreI had been a longtime customer of Polly's Pies in Whittier and then La Mirada until I moved away from the San Gabriel Valley area in 2014. I was never disappointed by the superior preparation of their 1/4 roasted chicken dinners or their Salisbury Steak dinners which arrived hot with a made-from scratch delicious glace' gravy with roasted mashed potatoes and herb-enhanced green beans. Chefs were obviously required to prepare each kind of meal according to Polly's specific flavor requirements as well as generous amounts. Unfortunately, my recent experience at the Hemet Polly's was not at all up to that standard. When I ordered a turkey dinner during the week before Christmas, I assumed that since it was also a poultry dinner, I could look forward to equally well-prepared food. Instead what I received was a smallish turkey dinner with 3 or 4 thin, smallish pre-sliced pieces of turkey and gravy, luke-warm, with a paltry amount of perhaps whipped potatoes, and somewhat flavorless green beans. (There might have been a little dressing, I don't remember.) In other words, the turkey dinner totally lacked the homemade quality that I had always enjoyed in the past at Polly's restaurants . My hope is that Polly's restaurants have not all abandoned that winning formula of having specific preparation requirements for full meals. The service was fine, and the choice of pies is...
