DO. NOT. EAT. HERE. Worth the read!
Last night my friends and I decided to eat at Mezzaluna as we have so many times before in the past years. Our night started with great service and we ordered our meals. Upon getting our meals, 3 of us wanted to sprinkle some parmesan cheese on our pasta dishes. After using some cheese, we went to use it again but it was clogged. We opened up the container and went to mix it up only to find that it was clumped together because the entire bottom was MOLDED. We had already sprinkled this all over our food and had started to eat our meals. We informed our waitress and she did apologize, we requested that our dishes be remade, and she said “I will see what the manager can do”. The manager never visited our table to apologize and while our food was remade, it was not sent out in any type of a rush. The waitress then brought us our checks with the full prices of everything. Not that we were looking for a free meal, but to not be apologized to or offered anything after eating mold in their establishment baffled us. We asked to speak to the manager who showed no remorse at all. After expressing our concern that no one seemed to care that there was mold in the cheese that we put all in our food and ATE, he still did not try to justify the situation. He continued to just smirk at us even after my husband made him aware that I an also pregnant and had now eaten mold. When the manager still showed no remorse, my husband asked “Should we go to each table and check for mold?” And he laughed and replied “uhhh, no.” He informed us that as the manager he did not have the authority to comp meals and he would have to speak to the owner. We requested we speak to the owner ourselves and were informed that he was sent over because “she was busy behind the bar”. Too busy to to give a 2 minute apology to a group of people who ingested mold in her establishment. We asked if he could ask her again because we’d like to speak to her personally. He did not go and speak to the owner, instead he returned to the food line and went about his job, only reconfirming that they did not care at all. So I went to the bar and approached the owner and asked if she was going to come and speak to our table and address the mold. She replied “Honey, I’m slammed behind the bar. I sent the manager over to talk to you guys.” I informed her that her manager did nothing and didn’t even apologize for the incident and said he couldn’t do anything without your permission. She continued to make drinks orders and not show any type of compassion or remorse and her only response to anything I had to say was “I’m sorry for your bad experience.” She then said “What more do you want? I just comped your meal 50%”, which I replied “Only because we asked and what we wanted was an apology”. Also, the waitress explained they do not have a 50% comp button so they gave us 10% off 5 times, which is not a 50% discount. Again, not that we needed it, just goes to further prove that the owner and manager have no competency in running their business. Eventually, I had to accept that she did not care, was not going to give a sincere apology, or stop what she was doing for 2 minutes to acknowledge me or something that happened in her establishment. While they have great food, the disrespect and unprofessionalism experienced today has solidified our decision to not return to Mezzaluna and we will happily give our business to the other establishments in downtown...
Read moreHad an extremely frustrating experience trying to eat at Mezzaluna in Hendersonville last night. We came in around 5:45pm on a Friday night. Restaurant is medium busy, not on a wait, open tables and booths.
I was with my disabled son and my wife had dropped me off to find a parking space as my son can't walk long distances. I told the hostess I needed a booth as my son can't eat at a table and was told booths were reserved only for large parties. I look around and of the 6 or 7 booths that could accomodate us, 2 are empty, 3-4 have parties of 2, and one party of 3 or 4 huests. When I pointed out that they had empty booths and not one of the other booths had a "large" party at them, i was snidely told by the host, "I didn't seat those tables". The implication of course that she is the only one that follows the rule and does her job properly.
At that point, I stepped outside to cool down and so as not to disturb other customers. I was also quite angry and don't believe in taking it out on some misguided employee. After stewing for a couple of minutes, I decided I wasn't ok with that answer and stepped in, waited for the host to return to the front , and told them that I needed for the manager to tell me that my son, wife and I could not be reasonably accomodated at a booth. Again, the restaurant was not full and not on a wait list.
I waited a couple of more minutes and then stepped outside as my son was getting agitated being made to stand in one place and I didn't want to disturb other guests. I was actually too upset to want to take the time to go back in and talk to the manager after getting my son back in the car with my wife.
My son is 20 years old, 5'11, 200lbs, non verbal, humming, rocks back and forth, is watching Elmo videos on his ipad, and quite clearly has special needs. I told the host I needed a booth because of my son.
Sadly, as I only had one hand free (the other holding my son the entire time), I did not document the restaurant's refusal to provide reasonable accomodations for my son, my wife, and I so my only recourse is to make sure I tell everyone that I know, that stays at my campground, or that I serve that Mezzaluna is not accomodating of special needs.
It's a shame because I live in Cedar Mountain and travel to Charlotte, NC frequently so my son and I have eaten here many a Friday night on my way home and never been refused...
Read moreBusy restaurant Saturday night regular dinner time around 5:00 5:30. Seated at the bar to avoid the wait time on the table. No problem we don't like the fussiness of being at a table sometimes the bar can be much more relaxed and casual. We wanted to take our time not doing a lot of drinking but just enjoying the meals so our server was Joshua. Joshua was great he took time to answer any questions that we had suggest different things even make a delicious mixed drink for my girlfriend who is also a bartender. Joshua was friendly and chatty and the restaurant seem to be on point with service. I had the ribeye with mashed potatoes and broccoli Gorgonzola butter and a Caesar salad half size. I also ordered a side of grilled shrimp to go with a steak and a side of pesto. I ordered the steak rare and it came out perfect it was good and seasoned well. Just the right amount of char flavoring. Just warm enough as it should be for rare. The steak was $30 with the mashed potatoes and broccoli it was around 10 to 12 oz. I would call it fair priced. Ended up tipping the grill person 5 bucks for doing the steak well. We also took care of our server Joshua and had a few nice times of chatting back and forth with him all together we spent about 2 hours at the bar dining. The only thing that I would have to say that wasn't a positive was that the Caesar salad dressing which I'm sure is made in house was very thick and served in a ramekin on the side instead of tossed. It could have used a little bit more salt in the flavor profile when they made the dressing. The dressing in my opinion has the flavor of egg that stands out which is not really a big deal for me it helps me understand that they made it in house also. The flavor of anchovy was very light almost unrecognizable to anyone who is sensitive to fish flavoring in a traditional Caesar dressing. I wouldn't call it a negative really I'm just describing the Caesar dressing in case you're going there and getting it 👌 Overall for service and price I give it...
