I am visiting from out of town. I frequently come to Hendersonville, and this was my first time trying Black Bear Coffee. As I was standing in line, my hopes grew exponentially when I looked down and saw the pretzel produced by Underground Baking Co. They have the best pastries in a 3 state radius. That changed very quickly when I had made it to the counter. The young girl in the black bandana making the coffee had a sneeze attack and sneezed about 3 times in a row without washing her hands. Alright the coffee is in a cup. I can sanitize the exterior of the cup and move past that. However, when she put the coffee on the counter, my wife instinctively reached for it. I explained to her that that is not ours. She immediately released her grip on the cup without it even leaving the counter. The young lady turns to us and says "You guys ordered something else. This is not yours." After we had already left it alone and moved on. Her attitude and personality of just being a gross slob is enough for me to never return as long as she is employed with this company. I'd find better help, everyone else was amazing and so friendly. Wherever you got them from is where you should look for better help.
My review has been replied to saying the cameras have been reviews and I didn't accurately represent what happened. Well, I was there and so were other people that saw the whole thing, so please. Tell us exactly what happened? Or does this company genuinely refer to every bad review as bullying? AN EMPLOYEE SNEEZING 3 TIMES IN A ROW AND NOT WASHING THERE HANDS IS DISGUSTING AND ME CALLING THAT DISGUSTING IS NOT BULLYING. Somebody get this sensitive HR rep out of here and replace them with someone that cares about your business...
Read moreBlack Bear Coffee Co. isn’t your polished, sterile corporate chain with pumpkin spice smiles and over-caffeinated playlists. No, this place has soul, the kind of place that smells like fresh roasted beans and rebellion against the corporate BS we’ve all been tricked into drinking. You walk in, and you feel it—like a basement show in the late ‘90s, except the amps are espresso machines and the guitars are steaming milk.
The Teddy Bear Latte? Forget the name, it sounds cute, but it’s a punch to the jaw dressed in velvet gloves. Sweet, strong, balanced. It’s comfort and chaos in a cup. The kind of drink that makes you sit down, slow the hell down, and remember that life is too short for bad coffee. And if anyone does it right, it’s Black Bear Coffee.
But here’s the truth, it’s not just the beans or the latte art. It’s the people, the atmosphere, the service, and caley, yeah, she’s the one who made mine; she’s the kind of barista that reminds you why places like this exist. No fake smiles, no autopilot corporate chatter. Just presence and hospitality. The latte didn’t just taste good—it tasted cared for, like someone gave a damn about the craft, the ritual, the experience.
Black Bear isn’t trying to be cool—it is cool, in that way real cool always is. Earned, not marketed. It’s where you go to get your fix, but it’s also where you go when you want to feel human again. If you’re in Hendersonville and you’re drinking coffee anywhere else, you’re doing it wrong.
So yeah—cheers to Black Bear. Cheers to the Teddy Bear Latte. But most of all, cheers to Caley, for making coffee feel like art, rebellion, and...
Read moreExcellent service and food. The staff was very polite and put up well with my two young children. We ordered five different dishes and loved them all. The iced carmel macchiato was made perfectly and the muffin I got was the best I've had since visiting NC. The prices were just right and they serve their full menu all day. The downsides were that they microwaved my order and the menu was just a printed 8 x 11 sheet but instead of being easy to read, it was edited all over with pen and then copied, instead of just being re-typed. That being said, a few things were not exactly how we ordered ( a sandwich had extra veggies on it, etc) but it was still really good, so it wasn't a big deal. The only other downside was that we were sitting next to some local folks who complained the entire time about really minor things, when it was obvious the staff was working as quickly as possible. If we lived here, we would go back...
