Note- lengthy review! My friend and I went recently to Tipsy Taco in Hendersonville, since we both love Mexican food and had never been there. I knew they were a chain but was willing to give them a chance. It was an interesting experience to say the least. The biggest disappointment was immediate when we learned that they CHARGE for chips and salsa!! What other Mexican restaurant in town does that! Unacceptable! Our server (she was nice) came over to take our drink order. My friend and I each ordered a margarita. She came back a moment later to tell us she got in trouble for forgetting to card us (we are both 70-ish and haven't been asked for ID in many years). My friend initially said NO, but our server insisted it was policy for everyone, even though she knew we were well over drinking age. We finally did show our IDs and she went away to put in our drink order. Shortly after, a guy who I assumed was the manager came over to explain why they card everyone. He said that if someone from the "alcohol police" comes in to anonymously dine and that person isn't carded, they can immediately shut down the bar for potentially serving underage drinkers. I've been dining and having cocktails in Hendersonville for many years now and have NEVER been carded or heard such a crazy thing. Where is the common sense here? Card those who may look underage but not people who are obviously old enough to order a cocktail (and by the way, the margarita wasn't that good...)
The menu says they are Tex-Mex but I don't really know what they really are. They have a taco with chimichurri sauce which is Argentinian. They have a Korean taco, and more tacos like BBQ and fried chicken that have nothing to do with Tex-Mex food. The only taco I had that was really good was the one with the chimichurri sauce. The others were just OK at best. One of my friend's tacos was so dry she had to ask for some pico de gallo (which she was charged for) to make it taste like something. I suspect their target is tourists who are downtown and don't know that there are better Mexican restaurants elsewhere in town. Take my advice. Go to Edneyville or Horseshoe for two great authentic Mexican food restaurants owned by local area residents. I certainly won't go back...
Read moreWe have been waiting to try this place out since they opened but we have heard lots of negative things from our friends and family about this location. They have been open for a while now so hopefully all of the rumors we heard about long wait times for everything, wrong orders coming out, and poor management had been worked out. After my experience tonight, nothing has changed. I was just there for 30 minutes and never got to place an order. Took 5 minutes to get 2 waters, another 5 minutes for chips and salsa and then we were never spoken to again. There are no signs of management or leadership. There was at least 5 or 6 people working but maybe 2 of them were waiting tables. The others just stood around watching the wait staff go down in flames. The restaurant wasn’t even busy, just completely mismanaged. After sitting there for 30 minutes we started to get confused. Then another table was sat beside us and they got drinks and their order taken almost immediately. We kindly asked to pay for our chips and salsa because we couldn’t wait any longer to order. Our 3 year old was about to lose her mind. I worked in the restaurant for 13 years so I am very patient and empathetic to these situations. They obviously have a few more bugs to work out before my family...
Read moreWe went for dinner on a Monday evening. Server, who was also the bartender, didn't know what the rotating craft beer tap was. The 10 oz margarita glass was literally heaped over the top with ice, it was a 4 sip drink and I wasn't taking big sips. Don't waste your money there. Chips and salsa were good, but they don't give you nearly enough chips for all the salsa, and they aren't free. If I'm paying for chips and salsa, I expect enough chips to finish the salsa or a free refill on chips. We only had enough for maybe half the salsa. My husband got the tamales. He said they weren't bad, but a small portion for the price, and the server had to go ask what kind of filling was in them, as it rotates daily. I got 3 tacos, the steak and shrimp ones were good, but the grouper one was just OK, left most of it. By the time we were leaving, they were slammed and our server was stuck at the bar making endless flights of margaritas, so we eventually had to go up to the bar to get the bill and pay. Overall, pretty good, we will probably try again in a few weeks once they get the...
