More than thrilled to FINALLY have a shawarma place in Hickory. We found this place online last night and immediately came today for supper. We got three items off the menu. The Grape Leaves were outstanding. You get six and they included pickled vegetables and fresh olives. Smashed. The Beef Shawarma Wrap was very flavorful and had a perfect ratio of meat to pickles to garlic sauce. Reminded me of the best Shawarma places in Charlotte. Smashed. The Chicken Shawarma over Rice was absolutely delicious. The flavors were spot on. I would suggest the yogurt sauce to this because it does not come standard on it but it usually does at some places. It was very very good without it but would have been perfect with it. The side we chose was the House Salad and it was nice. The dressing was perfect but my one complaint was it had no cucumber which I am used to eating with Shawarma. However like I said it was still absolutely so so good. Again Smashed. We WILL be visiting this restaurant again probably sometime this week. Definitely worth a try if you enjoy Mediterranean food or if you want to try something delicious and savory but a little different than usual. Oh and for what it is worth there was not even a bit of gristle or anything weird in any of the meat. It was high quality that is for sure. I say welcome to this restaurant a much needed variety in this neck...
Read moreUnfortunately this restaurant did not meet our expectations. It was very overpriced for what you get. The hummus with Shwarma was tiny, and nowhere near what was represented on the website. It’s $8 for a small side of Baba Ghanouj, and the sad part is they do not serve it with pita. They serve it with very greasy pita “chips” that overwhelm the flavor of the delicious Baba Ghanouj. I was specifically wanting Mediterranean for the fresh flavors, but instead I feel sick from the grease. I will say, the Gyro Wrap was the best thing we got, and probably the only thing that was worth the money for us. Sadly it was just in a wrap, and not pita. The chicken in the Chicken Kebab was pretty good, but the rice was my least favorite rice I’ve had at a Mediterranean restaurant. I think there’s a lot of potential here, but they should make some adjustments, especially...
Read moreFinally got over to try Famous Shawarma. I had really high hopes for this place since there's so few options for Mediterranean food in the area. I'll try to be as fair as possible in my review. We got the beef shawarma and gyro wrap with fries.
The gyro wrap was not very good. It seemed like the wrap was a typical store bought wheat wrap. The meat lacked flavor, all in all just very meh. The fries were good and crispy and by far the best part of this meal.
On to the beef shawarma. The beef was dry and lacked flavor. The rice was extremely bland. The sauces were all good but it needed way more than the couple of small plastic cups of sauce for this to be decent. I got the babaganouj as the side and it was excellent.
I'm glad I got to try it, but it didn't have nearly enough flavor for me so I...
