Hale's Restaurant & Lounge — Restaurant in Hillsboro

We received an e-gift card from a non-local relative for Christmas to Hale's. We are new to the area and enjoy going out to eat so it was a thoughtful gift. We were looking forward to trying them out. The Perkins-like atmosphere ended up being the best thing about this restaurant. Our waitress gave unenthusiastic, middling service. My fiances seafood pasta was flavorless, although he reported the scallops were cooked well. The burger I had was also cooked well, but also tasteless and very dry (it came with no ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, but did come with a flavorless cheese sauce served on the side). When we tried to pay with our e-gift card, our waitress disappeared for a while before reporting back that the machine that runs the gift cards was down and asking if we'd mind paying another way. We understand that things happen sometimes and paid for our meal. We decided that the food was tasteless enough that we wouldn't be coming back for a meal but maybe for drinks and dessert. A few weeks later, we returned to do exactly that. We asked before being seated if the gift card machine was working. The hostess took our e-gift card, couldn't get the machine to work, and disappeared in the back to talk to someone. When she returned, she told us that the e-gift card we'd received was only usable for online ordering for pickup or delivery, despite that not being noted anywhere on it. She promised a manager would call us, but never asked for our contact information to do so. A few weeks later, we decided to order food just to sever ties with this restaurant and have it done with. We ordered a breakfast containing eggs, sausage links, and pancakes, as well as an order of a crusted French toast and a dessert. I paid using the gift card, paying for the overage and leaving a tip with my debit card. After placing the order, we were given a pick up time 90 minutes later. Because that time seemed a little bit lengthy given the degree of business in our previous visits and the simplicity of our order, we headed over in 60. When we arrived, the hostess cheerlessly told me there was a balance remaining. When I explained that I had paid for the overage and left a tip using my debit card she rolled her eyes and disappeared into the back. When she returned, she said "Here's your order" and handed me the bag of food that had been sitting at the hostess station when we arrived. No explanation as to why she thought I still owed them money or an apology for making a mistake. When we arrived home with our food, it had obviously been sitting out for a while, as none of it was even warm. The sausage patties were flavorless. The eggs were serviceable once they were reheated. The pancakes, French toast, and dessert were all pretty good, but after 3 terrible experiences trying to use an e-gift card, there is nothing on this earth short of a zombie apocalypse that would entice me back to this wretched restaurant with flavorless food and even...

We have been to this restaurant many times, but we always have trouble deciding what to order because the menu is so extensive and the portions are so large. This time, we ate at an outdoor table for the first time. The restaurant is located next to a TV HWY, so the sound of cars can be a bit loud, but the atmosphere was very nice. We had the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs, Spanish Omelet, and strawberry Belgian Waffle. All of the dishes were delicious and we couldn't finish them all. Of course we will come back again.🤤 03/10/2024 (Sun) It had been a while since we last visited, and it just so happened to be the Weekend Special day, so I didn't hesitate to order the Steak & Lobster Weekends. The lobster was plump, and the baked potatoes were large—overall, We were thoroughly satisfied. We also had the Fruit Belgian Waffle again because we enjoyed it so much the last time.😊✨ 10/02/2024 (Wed) We had the Spanish Omelette ($16.95) with added pepper jack cheese, bacon, and mushrooms ($2.50 each), a lunch special ($13.95), two coffees ($7.50), and a Crème Brûlée Cheesecake ($8.95). The Spanish Omelette had more sauce than I expected, making the flavor a bit too strong for my taste and different from what I had imagined. 01/07/2025 (Tue) We ordered the Full French Toast ($12.95), Hot Beef Dinner Sandwich ($14.95), and coffee. The French Toast was made with thick, soft bread, slightly yellow like brioche, and it was so delicious I finished all five slices without hesitation. The Hot Beef Sandwich was quite different from what I expected, with a generous amount of demi-glace sauce poured over the top. It happened to be a special menu day (held three days a month), and there was also a Valentine's special cocktail, so we tried that too. I have been going to Hales for 39 years now and eat there about once a week. Their food has always been great and service. After 39 years of being a great customer they have a woman Bartender who is the manager on Sunday nights and thinks she owns the place, has no idea what the words CUSTOMER SERVICE IS..i order a 2-item Omelet tonight, the waitress Karry takes my order as a 2-item Omelet and it came as a 3 item..i didn't send it back, instead of it going to waste, I ate it.i get bill form Karry and their is a $2.00 extra charge over and I asked why. Because the big mouth Bar tender there stuck her noise into something that she didn't take my order and accused me of stealing extra items in my food and not paying for it..now in 39 years of being a customer, not only have I paid for everything I ordered, I also leave a tip.. this woman not only spoke to me very rude with a attitude, she accused me of something that has never happened, and she has never waited on me, doesn't even know me..the waitress Karry is new also, she was a hostess then became a waitress not to long ago, and when I question her why a extra charge, she also pulled a very poor attitude with me because Bar tender told her to charge me..yet bar tender wouldn't come out till I said bring her out I want to speak to her..that's when she said nicely in a rude way don't come back..great customer service...family owned for years...the woman who owns it used to be there every night,now she is gone and her son runs the place..never met him..but he has a bar tender,who is only a Sunday night manager,who thinks she owns the place,has a very poor attitude,doesn't know what the words Customer service means and is very rude..so from a very loyal customer after 39 years of going to this restaurant...GO SOME WHERE ELSE...SPEND YOUR MONEY AT A RESTURANT THAT THEIR MANAGERS UNDERSTAND THE WORDS CUSTOMER SERVICE,OND OVER $2.00 SHE SHOULD HAVE SAID SORRY FOR OUR MISTAKE AND TAKEN CARE OF ISSUE..INSTEAD VERY RUDE BACK..POOR ATTUTIDE ALONG WITH KARRY THE WAITRESS AND I SEE WHERE KARRY GETS HER ATTITUDE...FROM THE MOUTH MANAGER THAT IS RUDE AND GIVES NO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ALL..HALES YOU CAN DO MUCH BETTER THAN YOUR SUNDAY NIGHT BARTENDER,AND MANAGER..HER ATTITUDE IS SHE OWNS YOUR RESTURANT...AND DECIDES WHO SHE WANTS AS CUSTOMERS..39 YEARS,AND IT MEANS NOTHING TO HER...STAY AWAY...AND MY NAME IS STEVE BECK...EVERY WAITRESS THERE KNOWS ME,HAS WAITED ON ME,AND NEVER RUDE,OR ACCUSED ME OF STEALING FOOD FROM HALES WITHOUT PAYING..YET THIS WOMAN TONIGHT DID..HALES YOU NEED TO LOOK AT WHO WORKS FOR YOU..CAUSE WORD OF MOUTH IS YOUR BIGGEST FREE ADVERTISING THERE IS,AND I HAVE A BIG MOUTH,KNOW LOTS OF PEOPLE AND MY MOUTH SAYS...
