I have never had a worse restaurant experience in my life. My friend and I hadn’t eaten all day and I was craving a good steak so we decided to try out captain woodys. We also wanted a cocktail. Our waitress hardly acknowledged us and we never even got a drink menu. I ordered the surf and turf and my friend ordered the melt. The food finally came out and again our waitress left immediately so we still could not get a drink. The food first off, looked terrible. It was almost gray. The fries were supposed to be seasoned and I asked for ranch for the fries which they charged me for, and I couldn’t even eat it because the ranch was hard and chunky. The fries were cold, not seasoned at all, and all stuck together. I was so grossed out my the fries I ate one, and couldn’t touch the rest. The steak did not look good, and was so cold that the butter did not even melt. I ate half the steak before I was grossed out and started feeling like it was going to make me sick, the only reason I ate even half the steak was because I hadn’t eaten all day. I would’ve told the waitress, but she was no where to be found. Finally, a different waitress eventually came over, and I got up the courage to tell her about the food. I was extremely nice and just told her everything was cold. She snapped at me l, didn’t even let me finish and acted like she was disgusted by me and cut me off saying I was lying because she saw the steak come freshly off the grill. I nicely just said that you could even see it was so cold the butter wasn’t even melted and that’s why I didn’t finish it, and she again rudely cut me off, didn’t apologize, but instead just so unbelievably rude to me.
So last night, both my friend and I spent the evening throwing up. This morning woke up to the worst stomach cramps and are now having to miss work because the food gave us horrendous food poisoning. I am very upset and at this point will not hesitate to call bbb if this is not made right. That was the worst restaurant experience of mh life, and the food is definitely...
Read moreRUDE HOST. I worked in food and beverage all throughout law school, and I understand the importance of hospitality and customer service, even during a busy shift. I can sympathize with a crazy night or a packed house. Tonight was not that. It was Monday and we just looked for somewhere in Hilton Head with great reviews and nice looking food.
When we arrived, we were greeted with a nice, young hostess who took our phone number and assured we would be “called” when our table was available in about an hour. We saw an employee but in and say “not for another hour and a half”, not even look at us and then leave. No problem. We went next door and got some drinks while we waited.
We came around in around in an hour’s time to check on our status. We were greeted with a loud, rude woman who said “we called your name on the patio multiple times and you didn’t show up” and when we tried to explain that we were told to give a phone number and receive a telephonic call, she loudly said “our phones are down” and dismissed us. Dismissive, loud, and rude.
It was laughable how rude this woman was- we were trying to explain the misunderstanding and she cut us off- it was the restaurant’s mistake after all. Apologize for the mistake and show some kindness or humility. PLEASE, have some re-training for working front of house or some couth. I understand we are from out of town, but we were overly kind to a rude and domineering FOH.
We were just looking for a nice, local place to have a dinner and enjoy vacation. Unless you have some sort of concrete reservation, so you can all but avoid the host stand completely, AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
On a positive note, Zunzibar is more than accommodating for a fun night out...
Read moreIt was our last night in HHI and we decided to look for seafood. We had driven by this place a few times and decided this is where we would have our last dinner. Yep. We are very glad we did this. There is outside as well as inside dining. The outside looked very tropical and fun, but we opted to sit inside. They have a cute gray cat who is definitely “family”. She has her own bed outside on the hostess stand, lol. We were seated right away and our server came immediately for the drink order. I had a Pom-tree tini which was very good, but not as sweet as I like them. There were 4 of us and we got the Low Country boil and the Captain’s trio, which is a cheesy, garlic parm sauce but with no pasta. There was scallops, shrimp and fIsh. It was served with 2 pieces of garlic toast. The boil was shrimp, potatoes, sausage and a small ear of corn. The sausage was very good, a bit spicy, but really tasty. The other 2 people with us got the shrimp baskets. 12 lightly breaded shrimp, fries and two hush puppies. You could also get a side salad if you wanted to. Go for the baskets instead of the platters. The platters are $5-6 more than the baskets, and they serve the same amount of shrimp. You get a few extra sides with the platter. The service was fast but not rushed. This is a very good place to eat. We enjoyed our meal immensely. Can’t wait to come back next year in a...
