We have been in the area a little over 2 years now and have quickly found our favorites along with a lot of ok places. We kept looking at each other and asking the same question "Why have we not been here before?" From the moment you walk in your are warmly greeted, and even though it was our first trip, we were made to feel like we were regulars. We were introduced to the sommelier who gave us a quick walk around a well put together wine list offering to answer any questions at any time. Our serving "team" also introduced themselves by name and we were told there would be "additions" to the menu but they'd wait a while while we settled in to relax. We started with cocktails and the two of us that love dry martinis (one gin, one vodka) smiled broadly when our server (yes, I should remember his name, but it was such a long, fun, night, and I'm as old as dirt, so I forgot) said, "I'll tell the bartender "in and out" " #iykyk my wife and I shared the escargot and they were wonderful, She chose a chicken dish, I chose the wreckfish special. Our friends started with the deviled crab and then chose the duck, and the short ribs and at the end of the meal they exclaimed the short ribs were the best they'd ever had anywhere. As the courses were so varied, we were wrestling with the wine choice, so we put our trust in the sommelier who suggested a Pinot Noir (on of my very favorite varietals) we chose from the list and he was spot on with his reco, it paired perfectly with all four varied entrees. We ended by sharing come creme brulee and some outstanding cappuccino. The pace of the meal was perfect, our server (one of the few people we met who was actually born and raised in Bluffton) was amazing. We have added Chez Georges to our list of top choices. If you are on Hilton Head or just visiting it should be at the top of...
Read moreThis restaurant used to be OK. Not sure what happened but very rude hostess/ owner.
I ordered a complete meal while seated at the bar. I had reservations. 30 minutes later The so called hostess asked me if I was finished as she needed the seat for others who arrived!! I told her My main course never came out. She said it looked like I ate since my plate was empty. That was my salad! I ordered from some prefix menu & never got the main course. My neighbors were sitting 2 seats over & heard the whole conversation. They advised me to stay & eat & said the business caters to large groups & they never come back.
I asked the bartender what was going on & he said he would talk to the kitchen about the crowd that was waiting on line to eat. He believed they were backed up in the kitchen. I totally understood but why chase out locals & guests who dine out at least 4x a week? I have never witnessed such rude poor management/ ownership.
I paid the full bill & the bartender sent out my main course as I was getting ready to leave. He was kind enough to pack it to go & apologized for the mix up. Not his fault he made great fancy drinks.
I wish I could say the food was good when I got home. I would not recommend this poorly run establishment. Shows they have no idea what Southern charm is like. We Wish them Luck & hope they get a real hostess & manager who has experience with the food & beverage industry.
BTW this is my 1st review where I was appalled with the behavior of horrific management .
I do not believe this place compares to our other fine dining restaurants. Ex sage room, ellas, Michael Anthony's, Bistro 17, Alfred's, Alexander's, Ombra, Charlie's, okko, & many other of Fine Dining professionally run...
Read moreWe ate at Chez George tonight. We had reservations, so seating wasnât an issue. Our waiter was nice, and informative. The specials were nothing to write home about, so we all ordered from the regular menu. We started with the Escargots de Bourgogne and Mussels Sud-Est. The escargot was very flavorful, and was more something I wanted to try since Iâve never had them. The mussels had good flavor, but are just not my cup of tea. But my dad enjoyed them. For entrees, we had the Poulet, Saumon en Papillote, and Os de Porc. The poulet is their version of fried chicken, covered in a sherry cream sauce, and served with potato halves and wilted spinach. The flavor was great, with the sauce going well with the chicken. I didnât try the Os de Porc, but my father really enjoyed it. Itâs 2 bone-in pork chops. I had the salmon. The fish comes in a little baggie that they cut open, and then pour a sauce over. The fish itself was rather plain, but the pour over sauce was good and the vegetables it came with had a great flavor. It was also served with a creamed kale and spinach with breadcrumb topping. I didnât care for it, as itâs made with Pernod which gave it a slight sweet flavor. But my mother enjoyed it. Overall, the food was good, not great. The service was good. I would try it again to give them another chance, but with so many other fantastic options on the island, itâs not one weâll be putting on our...
