Read moreLooks can be so deceiving! I like that this restaurant is located on the boardwalk, and we love that the atmosphere is very coastal. Our server did a good job taking our order, and we think he 100% deserves his tip. While the food looked amazing and smelled fresh, to our disbelief... it all tasted bland. The burger meat was seasoned only on the surface, so it tasted like Burger King's meat patties. My fish tasted okay. Unfortunately, it was overcooked, and I had to tug on the meat with a fork because the texture was dry and rubbery. The lemon on the side did help with the fish's dryness, but I shouldn't have to compensate for the texture if I am paying for one of the most expensive item on the menu. Our food experience was so hard to accept because everything was plated so beautifully, and we really wanted to believe that what we ate tasted good, but the food was meh. I am so disappointed with the cooks. I just can't believe I paid a premium price for subpar food. Why not lower the price if you aren't going to put out the quality of food? You might as well walk down the boardwalk and a little inland to get better quality food for half the price. Oh, just FYI, this restaurant does an unorthodox practice where they automatically charge you an 18% gratuity tip to your receipt, regardless of how many people are in a party. I was originally going to tip my server 20% (his service was great), but it felt weird to add an additional tip. I would prefer the managers to get rid of that practice or allocate 18% of their food selection prices to go directly towards server's and host's tip share. Maybe then the prices on the menu...
Read moreWe decided to visit WHY NOT? after seeing so many great reviews—but honestly, I have no idea how those ratings are so high.
First of all, it was extremely hot inside. Uncomfortably hot. It was hard to sit and enjoy the meal in that kind of heat.
Second, the service was pretty terrible. All the food and drinks came at different times, and after taking our order, the waitress never came back to check on us. Unfortunately, I don’t remember her name. We even had to go up and ask for the check ourselves—and then waited around 20 minutes for it.
Third, the food just wasn’t good. We ordered the fried calamari, and they were rubbery, bland, and not properly cleaned. They still had that unpleasant thin membrane on them that should have been removed—really unappetizing. The sauce on the side was the only thing we liked.
We also tried the shrimp and lobster ravioli. We couldn’t taste any lobster, and the shrimp came completely in their shells, tails and all, covered in sauce. Was I supposed to dig through that with my hands? The flavor was just okay, nothing special.
Then we had grilled salmon and asked for ranch on the side. The sauce never came—and neither did the server. The salmon itself was overcooked and too greasy.
By the end, we just wanted to leave. The whole experience was frustrating and disappointing. Not a one-star disaster, but definitely not worth more than two stars. I won’t be coming back.
