I’m writing to express my deep disappointment after visiting your establishment recently. What was supposed to be a simple lunch with my girlfriend and her 8-year-old daughter turned into an uncomfortable and disheartening experience. One that left us feeling ignored, unwelcome, and frankly, disrespected.
We walked in around noon, dressed casually, not expecting anything extravagant—just a decent meal. From the moment we entered, no one greeted us or even acknowledged us. We stood there waiting, watching staff move around us without a glance. I’ve been told before to just seat myself, so when I saw a table that needed to be cleaned, I sat down with my family, assuming someone would help shortly.
That help never came. We waited over 10 minutes while employees walked right past us, again without a word. Finally, I flagged someone down, a heavier-set white woman who gave the table a half-hearted wipe with what looked like a dirty, unsanitary wet rag. It didn’t feel clean, and I found myself uneasy that our child was expected to eat off of it.
What really upset me was what came next. We sat there as six other parties were seated and served while we were completely overlooked. I had to again flag someone down just to get our order taken. At that point, I couldn’t help but feel that we were being treated differently, singled out for reasons I’m still trying to understand.
Once our order was finally taken, the service continued to be cold and passive aggressive. One waitress, in particular, felt the need to repeatedly explain what a smash burger was, something I didn’t ask for and frankly found belittling. It felt like we were being punished for daring to ask for basic service. After ensuring that our order was first other people got their food and ate their meal and already paid and left.
When our food arrived, one order was made incorrectly and the waitress blamed the chef and said “he’s very upset today.” We got our utensils after Asking for them. Some of these complaints may seem petty but remember that NOBODY ELSE had this plethora of issues that just kept coming. Only us.
We weren’t loud. We weren’t rude. We simply wanted a nice lunch before taking our daughter to Dave & Buster’s. She didn’t deserve to feel like a second-class guest. None of us did.
I’m not writing this out of anger, I’m writing this because I believe your team needs to hear how their actions (and inactions) affect real people. We felt invisible. We felt judged. And above all, we...
Read moreI’ve now had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant twice, and I can confidently say it has earned every one of its five stars for various reasons. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, professional atmosphere and attentive staff who clearly take pride in delivering an exceptional dining experience.
On my first visit, I ordered the shrimp and grits—rich and flavorful. The dish was served promptly, and the presentation was just as good as the taste. On my return visit, I went with a traditional full waffle breakfast, which was equally delicious and satisfying. Every item on the plate was thoughtfully prepared, and I was especially impressed with the timeliness of the service.
One thing to note for egg lovers: their version of scrambled eggs leans more toward the style of an omelette. While still tasty, it’s helpful to know if you prefer a softer or fluffier scramble.
Also, for the syrup lovers out there: you’ll appreciate that the syrup is served warm (a lovely touch!), and it tastes good—but just a heads-up, it’s on the thinner side rather than thick. Not a complaint, just something to know based on your texture preference.
During my second visit, I chose to sit at the bar, which offered a unique view into the inner workings of the kitchen. From there, I witnessed the impressive efficiency of the chefs and the strong teamwork among the waitstaff. The waitresses were consistently helpful—not just with their own tables but with each other and with guests seated at the bar. What really stood out to me was their strict attention to food safety. Each time they needed to handle food, whether placing a lime on a drink or grabbing a slice of toast, they put on fresh gloves without fail. That level of care and professionalism is rare and deeply appreciated.
Adding to the positive experience, the owner was present in the dining area during both of my visits. It’s always a good sign when leadership is actively involved—she was assisting customers, checking in for feedback, and making sure everyone felt welcome and well cared for.
This restaurant is a gem in the area. Good food, top-tier service, and a culture of cleanliness and professionalism that deserves recognition. I’ll definitely be back...
Read moreFrom the moment I walked into The Hen and The Hog, I knew I was in for something special. The atmosphere was absolutely phenomenal—warm, welcoming, and full of vibrant energy. You could tell the hiring manager did an exceptional job selecting the staff. Every single person I encountered was smiling, friendly, and genuinely pleasant, even though the restaurant was buzzing with activity.
My server, Xavier, was a shining example of top-tier hospitality. He was kind, attentive, and made me feel completely at ease. It was clear he truly enjoys what he does, and it reflected in every interaction.
I also want to give a huge shoutout to Chef Dave and Chef James—what they’re doing in that kitchen is nothing short of magic. I ordered the shrimp and grits with fried chicken, and let me tell you… it was unforgettable. The chicken was perfectly fried—crispy, golden brown, not soaked in grease, and clearly cooked in clean, fresh oil. The flavor was rich, comforting, and incredibly satisfying. The grits were creamy and paired flawlessly with the shrimp. I literally prayed for an extra stomach because the food was just that good. Every bite felt like it was made with love and precision.
Even though the restaurant was packed (as it should be with food that good), no one seemed stressed or overwhelmed. The entire staff worked with grace and a positive attitude that made the experience even more enjoyable.
Wherever The Hen and The Hog decides to open their next location, I genuinely feel sorry for any nearby breakfast spots—because this place sets the bar. Thank you, Xavier, Dave, and James, for turning a simple meal into a standout memory. I’ll definitely be back (hopefully with that second stomach)—and bringing...
