I have been going to Hollywood Beach for over 15 years. I have stayed at several locations that are still in business and within a mile or so proximity to the St. Maurice. All on Surf Rd. or east of A1 A ( Ocean Dr. ), walking distance to the beach. I have only stayed at TWO other places where the staff comes close to the St. Maurice. Friendly, accommodating, and responsive. Both are at least 50% more in price, and offer similar type rooms, 1 BR, and efficiency. At some point in my process of inquiring, (to check how responsive and informative the staff and this place was) booking, changing my booking, checking in late, (the staff member waited for me to arrive well past regular office hours) and interacting with the staff throughout my stay, I had the opportunity to speak with and meet 4 staff members as well as the owner. One couldn't have been nicer than the other! In reading some of the other negative reviews, dated rooms, parking, cleanliness, - yes some rooms are dated BUT clean. (as is the case with most if not ALL Hollywood Beach Hotels/Motels/ Inns in this price range) I asked an was shown other rooms. It appeared to me they are updating rooms, as some are not dated at all. (a common practice among hotels this size and owner operated. Going through a room or two at a time to remodel/update, instead of a massive renovation) Most of these buildings are 75 yrs old or older. In the 15 years I have been going to Hollywood Beach there are only about 4-5 NEW buildings. Parking is a problem for EVERY one and business in this area. The St. Maurice does make you aware of issues with parking. Other areas the St. Maurice goes out of their way to accommodate you. Towels for your room. There are plenty, if you need more ask and you shall receive. Beach towels to take to the beach. Beach chairs to take to the beach. Bicycles (3) available for guest use. My guess is, on some of the negative reviews, are from people who may have never visited Hollywood Beach before. Or are accustomed to national chains not smaller run owner operated hotels. If you don't at least consider the St. Maurice, you will be missing one of the few and I mean few places in the area that offers, location, friendly responsive staff, clean rooms for UNDER 200$ IN...
Read moreMy sister and her employee were traveling for business and she was staying in the large beach-front hotel right next to St Maurice Inn. I flew in from Dallas to join her for a couple days, because I absolutely love the beach. Quick note about beaches - forget Miami Beach and stay at Hollywood Beach. Not worth the drive or the trouble. Hollywood Beach is amazing and so much cleaner and nicer. And less populated. Which is why my sister paid big bucks to stay right on the beach. But she didn’t like her hotel, it was nothing special. Yet cost her a small fortune. I couldn’t fit in the room with them, so I went looking for my own place.
Literally right behind her hotel was a cute little inn called St Maurice. It was perfect and the people were so kind and helpful. It was just as nice as my sister’s hotel, only more spacious and comfortable. Yes, the bathroom is small, but I’m here for the beach, not a soaking tub, so who cares? The room was large yet cozy, and very clean. I didn’t see a spec of sand anywhere. It had super comfy beds, which are always appreciated. It was pretty hot outside, but the air conditioner worked great. I was so nervous about people being loud in the courtyard that night, but I heard nothing. Probably because it wasn’t a weekend. I always try to avoid weekends when I travel. They even provide a grill outside, which is awesome if you want to cook your own food and eat in the courtyard.
Now for the best part. The LOCATION. When you walk outside the Inn, you can see the beach. It’s literally steps to the boardwalk. You don’t have to cross a major street or anything, it’s right there, calling your name with its salty breeze and beautiful waves. Margaritaville was next door and I walked over to spy. They’re waaaay more expensive. Yes, they have a nice pool, but it was very loud and crowded. You get more for your money at St Maurice and that amazing beach is better than any pool (use sunscreen even if you tan like me, I got the sunburn of my life). Now my husband and I are planning a trip to Hollywood Beach, that’s how much I loved that beach, its boardwalk, shops and restaurants. And we will be staying at St Maurice the entire time,...
Read moreIs this 10 out of 10 stay. Not really. ||First negatives. Rooms are dated and feel cheap. Bathroom is small and toilet too close to the wall for comfortable #2. They give you actual key, not card key that you could put in your wallet.||Now positives. This was for work conference. I used up my yearly conference money going to Waikiki in June (which cost $450 per night), and I had to go cheap as I only had few remaining available funds left. Price is 1/8 of the Margaritaville resort hotel where the conference was which was next door. So you get all the hotel amenities such as restaurant and live concerts sponsored by Margaritaville hotel that happened to be performing almost every night on my stay. Some of the bands were really good and I would have paid money to see them. Beach is literally 15 sec walk. Rooms are clean for how dated it is. Has kitchen but no roaches. AC worked great. TV is roku TV so if was easy to watch my netflix, youtube, and other online streaming as well as direct tv for sports and News. Bed and pillows were comfortable enough for the price. There were shaded tables and chairs outside my room that I made good use of every day. ||There were few things that this hotel had that was pleasant surprise. They had 2 bicycle for free to use for the guests. They were old, rusted, no gears, and no hand brakes, but it ran great and it was quiet. I had bicycle when I was a kid that use backpedal as a brake, so it was fine. Went to Walmart to get water and toiletries that I forgot using the bike and went up and down to beach boulevard several times. They had beach chairs in the room which I made good use of every day. I didn't buy sunscreen at Walmart as hotel had leftover sunscreens from other previous guests that I can use for free. ||So is it really 10/10 hotel? Not really. But I would rate it 10/10 for value and...
