The first thing we noticed when we arrived was how hot it was inside. Stuffy and warm. I ordered the salmon special and when it arrived, it was dead. Dead in the obvious way, but also killed by a heat lamp or over cooking. It was so tough and had no flavor. It came with risotto which was also overcooked and lumpy, with parts unseasoned because of how lumpy it was. My friends ordered a shrimp pasta which ended up being too spicy for them (it wasn't labeled as spicy) so I ate some of their noodles. The shrimps were translucent so I didn't risk those. Back to my salmon, I picked at it but waited for the waitress to come back so I could send it back and order something else. An hour later she returns (all of our drinks were empty) and tell her about the salmon. She goes back and the manager told her to only give me half off. She was apologetic and nice. While she's standing there I ask her why it's so hot in here and she says we aren't allowed to turn the AC back on until next year. So what this all came down to was an uncomfortable ambiance, a nice waitress but no where to be found and we were late for our escape room appointment, and I paid half for an inedible entree because the manager is too cheap to turn on the AC to where customers and staff are both sweating and unhappy. So I'm glad they got my 13 bucks because I won't be back. The manager and the owner are two separate people, so I hope the owner sees this and addresses with her manager.
I'm a fair reviewer and I don't like leaving bad reviews but when I do, they're warranted.
If you go, order the pizza. I had a slice from another friend that night and it was pretty good. My friend also said the fig mule...
Read moreMy family and I took in a movie last night at the Waterfront in Pittsburgh and of course tasked me with finding the restaurant. I did a quick search to see if anything new has popped up since we’ve last visited the area and came across this restaurant. I’m not sure how long they’ve been in business but this was our first time. We absolutely loved it! I’m pretty picky with food since I’m constantly cooking at home and I have trouble paying for just mediocre cooking. I love salmon and have trouble getting it out anywhere without it being overcooked. I decided to take a chance when i saw the salmon salad on the menu. It was without a doubt the best salmon I’ve ever eaten! Crispy, screaming hot and cooked perfectly! Just doesn’t get any better. The salad was perfectly dressed. The cheese. The pomegranate and apple slices with walnuts. It all just came together. My wife had a margarita pizza that I of course sampled and it was heavenly as well. I had an old fashioned to drink and we finished the evening off with the Italian lemon crème cake and an expresso. Great atmosphere. Warm and cozy. Excellent waitress. Just a great experience. Can’t...
Read moreEverything about Eighth & Hays was fantastic! Jaime was our server and was very attentive. They have a gluten free pizza that was incredible. I'm always cautious about making sure foods and drinks are gluten free and the server and owner knew what was safe for me to eat, and went above and beyond to check on the liqueur we weren't sure about. The pizza choices are unique and interesting. The fire roasted chicken pizza was great! Not just for gluten free pizza, but pizza is general. They did an excellent job socially distancing the tables and ensuring all of the staff wore masks.
If you're looking for a unique find with excellent food and cocktails, that is cautious about allergens, definitely check...
