A 4-hour layover at HNL brought me, my spouse and an Oahu friend to Onoya for lunch. I suggest Shiro’s Saimin but was down for anything really. I ate at their now defunct Shirokiya location years ago and I believe this is their new digs. ATMOSPHERE: Tiny dining room with big windows that afford great street views. RESERVATIONS: Not necessary if they’re even taken. PARKING: A few stalls in the private lot behind the restaurant, or on-street. MENU: Ramen and izakaya-style apps. Oddly no fried rice. BEVERAGE: House White Wine before noon? Only when I’m on vacay! Palatable and affordable Chardonnay (?). FOOD: Tonkotsu Miso I anticipated that the added miso would enhance the tonkotsu’s flat flavor profile, but instead merely diluted the broth’s thickness. Noodles were al dente and thin, but non-eggy in flavor. Two slices of chashu were tender but majority fatty. The halved whole egg wasnt gooey but medium-hard in temp. The amount of bean sprouts were minuscule and the bamboo shoots mainstream. I could’ve done without the canned corn and picked off the mound of green onions. The lunch special added 3 pieces of gyoza and a small bowl of karaage don (beef and pork were also available) for just $3.50 more. The gyozas were tasty, with thin wrappers delicately seared, accompanied by a soy-chili dipping sauce. Unfortunately, the chicken karaage were soggy and could’ve been fried longer. SERVICE: Greeting was immediate. Food delivery was quick but the side dishes came out at varying times. The male server was a bit impatient and rushed us during the ordering process. But, we were checked on twice. OVERALL: Fair prices. I should’ve stuck with my favorite broth, shoyu, but my curiosity in the hybrid tonkotsu miso broth got the best of me.

*edit* Came by for the second time Saturday for a late lunch, lots of parking and seats since it was after 2pm👍 Ordered a Yuzu Shio Ramen set with Gyoza this time, service was fast and food great as always. Like that I dont have to go all the way to Kapahulu to eat at Onoya anymore🤙🤙 Second day of the soft opening, glad to see Onoya Ramen opened their second location in the old Sanoya Ramen space off King street across from Times Supermarket and American Savings in Honolulu🤙 Got there maybe 25 minutes before they opened, when I passed by there wasnt a long line and I actually got a parking stall in back too. Guess I didnt read the IG Post correctly, today the first 50 customers receive free ramen of your choice👍 So I ordered a Ebi Wonton Ramen, changing it up a little since my go to is always the Black Garlic ramen. Ordered a soft drink too so I could leave a tip🤙 Ramen was excellent as always, this place is probably in my top 3 ramen places on Oahu. I just dont go as often since the original one is in Kapahulu and the parking is tough. So Im happy they opened another location here on King Street which is an easier place to come to for me at least. Ill be coming back again for sure....5 stars🤙🤙

Well-lit little shop with a reasonable number of 2, 4, and 6 seat tables. This ramen shop just opened the first week of December 2024! I found it when looking up the fresh mochi shop (Fujiya Hawaii) around the corner. Piping hot ramen with flavorful broth. Both bowls arrived quickly. They were out of Tonkotsu for the day so we ordered Miso and Yuzu Shoyu Ramen. The one guy cleaning tables, taking orders and payments, serving, and providing ice waters was working very hard and as fast as he possibly could. I only saw 1 front area person, so perhaps they are still staffing up this location? Credit card accepted at the table (QR code on bill). Parking is a little difficult since I am not familiar with the area. I found a labeled Onoya spot along the back of the building. I think there is nearby street parking also. Great flavors. I'd be interested in a combo set next visit!
