The Paina Waikiki Luau really needs to improve its communication with guests when shows are going to be canceled, especially for the $150+ it costs.
Our show was canceled 3 minutes before it was supposed to start, and we had planned our whole day around going to the luau. It easily could’ve been canceled hours before due to rain, but they messed up all of the guests schedules for the night.
Our 3-year-old was so excited to go, and because we didn’t hear from anyone, we assumed the show was on. We rushed back to the hotel from the aquarium, got ready, only to be told that the show was canceled. No email, no phone call, no apology, and no voucher for a future show. They could’ve and should’ve handled this so much better.
What’s worse is that it was clearly raining all day, and the people at the hotel said it takes about 4 to 5 hours for the chairs to dry out for the luau. Why not cancel the show at noon so that guests can make other plans? It was very obvious that weather was going to be challenging, but they didn’t cancel the show until people started showing up.
This was a huge disappointment for us and our son. I honestly think it created a core memory of disappointment for him because he had waited all week for the luau, and we had no backup plan because there was no notice. This was the worst part of our time in Hawaii, and it could’ve been solved so easily.
I’ll always remember the Paina Waikiki Luau for taking a day of our vacation away. If it is raining, it is on you to call them over and over to find out if the show will...
Read moreI recently attended the Paina Waikiki Luau at the Marriott Resort & Spa, and it was an unforgettable evening filled with culture, delicious food, and breathtaking performances! From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us with warm Hawaiian hospitality, setting the tone for a wonderful night ahead. The setting was absolutely stunning--right by the beach with a beautiful sunset as a backdrop. The ambiance was festive and welcoming, making it the perfect place to experience traditional Hawaiian culture. The highlight, of course, was the feast! The buffet-style dinner featured a fantastic array of dishes, including fresh fish, and a variety of flavorful sides. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the flavors truly transported me to the islands. I couldn't get enough of the tropical desserts--especially the coconut cake! The entertainment was phenomenal. The dancers were incredibly talented, showcasing traditional hula and fire performances that left the audience in awe. The storytelling through dance was captivating, and it truly gave us a glimpse into the rich history and culture of Hawaii. The live music added to the festive atmosphere, making it a night to remember. The Paina Waikiki Luau on property of the Marriott, is a must-do for anyone visiting Waikiki. It's a perfect blend of great food, entertainment, and cultural experience, all in a beautiful setting. I left with a full belly and a heart full of aloha. I can't recommend it highly enough! Read moreI recently attended the Paina Waikiki Luau at the Marriott Hotel in Waikiki and had a mixed experience. While the performance was both informative and entertaining, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Hawaii with an amazing cast and band, the dining experience left much to be desired.
Despite arriving early as suggested, I was seated at one of the last tables. The buffet service was organized by table, and being among the last to be called, I waited over 30 minutes to access the food. By the time it was our turn, we were informed we had only 15 minutes to eat before the buffet would close, which felt rushed and unfair compared to other guests who had ample time.
Regarding the food quality, I found it lacking. The fish and chicken were bland, the pork overly salted, and the prime rib unappetizing. Additionally, the huli huli chicken contained bone fragments, making it difficult to enjoy. Desserts were also underwhelming, with the coconut cream pie and coconut jelly lacking flavor; only the pineapple upside-down cake and rolls stood out.
Given the general admission price of $170, I expected a higher quality dining experience. For those considering this event, I recommend opting for the show-only ticket at $120 and dining elsewhere beforehand to ensure a more...
