Not sure why this joint isn't on Yelp, but happy I get to introduce it. It's a speakeasy above the kaka'ako Aloha Beer that's open only Fridays and Saturdays. They serve a selection of the popular beers from downstairs as well as craft cocktails. The cocktails are mostly classics such as painkiller, old fashioned, paper plane, with some of their own like the aloha. What sets this place apart is how well each drink is made.
It's order at the bar and find your own seating type of place so don't be shy and make friends in the lounge seating enclaves. Be friendly with an aloha spirit like the bar staff so no worries sista/brah.
Love the dark and gothic ambiance, but not sure what to think of the fairy tail looking reindeer over the stage/fire except that I found it funny once told it wasn't real.
There's valet or self parking next to the place and the fee is reduced with validation.
If you're really overzealous you can visit Aloha Beer until 11 pm and come up here til midnight.
Only recommendation I’d have is to improve the ice. They use regular ice versus large cubes or balls. Regular ice melts too fast, especially...
Read moreHi Brau room is a really nice speakeasy located on top of aloha beer. Don't be fooled by the door as you can open it and walk in. The bartenders seem to really know how to make drinks as their cocktails are so fancily made. I recommend booking a reservation for groups larger than 4 as I saw many people get added to the waitlist since they didn't have a reservation prior. We came here on a Saturday night around 7 pm for two people and snagged the last spot at the bar. The food kitchen closes by 1045 pm and there are restrooms downstairs. Parking isn't that convenient so be prepared to walk a few blocks. Anyways highly recommend coming here for a quick drink, meetup with friends, or...
Read moreI went on a Saturday night around 10-ish. No reservation, had plenty of seating available. No food that i can recall, our group only drank whiskey cocktails. Overall experience was different from before covid. It used to feel like a speakeasy, now it feels more like a bar kind of vibe. Cons: You go to the bar and order. Water is self serve. Menus are placed on every table. No server or waiter. Pros: Cocktails were delicious, atmosphere was dimly lit (for all to relax and chill), corner had a live DJ, music matched the mood (slightly loud, hard to hear your group chat), comfortable seating. They also close at 12 am. Would I come back, I guess so. But will most likely look for...
