Adaptive Computers — Local services in Hood River

A LONG story: I emailed Adaptive Computer to find out about monitor cables; I had two monitors and was increasing to four. The ports on my PC and monitors were a mish-mash of DVI, HDMI, VGA, and Display Port ports and I was confused. Although he doesn't carry cables, I emailed a picture of the back of my PC and he kindly squared me away; I placed my cable order online for the two new monitors and the necessary cables. As it turned out, my eyes really appreciate the blue filter on the two new monitors so I decided to replace the two old monitors plus another monitor on a second computer. Now all our monitors are easier on the eyes. All this monitor and cable thing transpired over several weeks. With the monitor upgrade complete, I decided it was time to get rid of the old house PC. Although I hadn't used Adaptive Computers for my computer needs in the past, I so appreciated the timely response and good information with the cables that I contacted Ross, the owner, once again and asked him if he could build me a FAST computer to replace the one I had built at Fry's December, 2016. My plan was to get rid of the house slow-as-a-snail PC, replacing it with the Fry-built, my daily work horse, and then use the Ross-built for my daily work. He said "that's what I do"! I didn't know what he did and learned he does a whole lot more computer related stuff but all I needed was a PC. We made contact on a Tuesday, by Friday the new computer was built and it only took that long because some of the parts had to be ordered. But I wanted more, I wanted him to set up the new PC as a mirror of my work PC. We decided I'd drop off my work horse first thing Monday so I could keep working over the weekend. Windows 10 gave him a bit of trouble but he circumvented the issue, got the job done, and didn't charge me extra. Monday afternoon I picked up both machines with identical hard drives. The install at home was a simple Plug-n-Play, no issues. In summary, JUST ONE WEEK after deciding to get a new lightning-fast PC built, I am up and running with speed and with my familiar desktop. The speed is phenomenal! With annual maintenance, I'm set for another 5-10 years. My experience with Adaptive Computers was positive. Ross is courteous, knowledgeable, and does what he says. Won’t be back. After taking a mac in that was having booting issues I told it needed a bard drive. I specifically asked if tay would sort it out and was assured it would and I asked any necessary updates also be done since large updates are problematic in an area with slow speeds. After spending more than a little money and picking it up I hooked it all back up and boom no second monitor (which never had an issue). I took it back. Turn was told it’s missing a diver and YOUR DISC THAT COMES WITH IT SHOULD FIX IT as well as “NEVER WORKED ON ONE WITH THUNDERPORT”.

Both of these statement bothered me. A computer store that clearly doesn’t know that you don’t get. disc with macs and they have had thunder ports for MANY years. No offer of figuring out the drivers or what have you. I don’t play games I utilize ten second screen for comparative spread sheets. It’s essential. Then after taking it to two more shops both of which said I am sorry this happened to you and that no shop should have even taken your money fir the hard drive since if they knew even a little about macs they would know that updates for that mac would be ending in 2021 and that I would be better off putting money into a new one. Not one shop said TWO. So not only did I spend hundreds of dollars to not be able to use second scree but hundreds that could have gone to a new machine. All this in a time when funds are scarce. Beautiful job done upgrading a 2016 desktop unit: motherboard, CPU, SSD, HDDs graphics card, and water cooler. This involved initial review and design choices, breakdown of old system, installation of hardware, cable routing, and software install and validation. All done turnkey.
