We have always enjoyed coming to Steinhaus Keller up until last night. As always we made reservations weeks in advance for our trip to Hot Springs. My husband always love to eat here and looks forward to it so much. However last night was a complete mess from the moment we walked in the door. The host was rude, unprofessional, and inept at his job. (Someone please tell this man to pull up his pants!) After being sat in the bar area with a tiny round table we asked to be moved. The "host" basically told us no, the other tables were for reservations. To which I told him we had made reservations weeks in advance. He then told me if we waited he would try and move us. In the 20+ mins we sat in the bar it was like a relvoving door of people coming and going in and out of the outdoor dining area. Our table was so small there was no room for each of our plates if we had stayed there for our meal (we had ordered drinks and a pretzel at this point). Finally we got moved to the main area. The "host" acted like we were a huge inconvenience and then he failed to mention to the wait staff in this area what was going on. The waitress came to us and basically asked us what we were doing in her area since we had drinks and a pretzel. We tried to explain what was happening to which she replied "so, what do you need from me? " Ummm, for you to wait on us please! After over an hour our food arrived. I had a salad and husband had his usual schnitzel. Normally he loves their schnitzel but tonight he said it was dry and tasteless. My salad was basically not editable due to huge ribs being left in the romaine. We never received the complimentary bread. Another waitresses accidentally lost grip of a tray and a large steak knife ended up right at my feet. Tables sat either empty or 2 at tables for 6 or more for the entire length of our meal, but yet we had to raise a fuss to be moved out of what felt like a galley way . The food was not good. It was over priced. The host did more harm than good in his position. We will not be back. So sad because they use to be so good. I will say the music was good and the waiter in the bar was so kind and tried to make us feel better. He was an asset to the team. Steinhaus Keller you need to step it up. And for Pete's sake tell your host to put on a belt. I should not know the color of his underware (grayish-green btw) Not happy!

The overall experience of Steinhaus Keller restaurant was very plesent. We experienced just a few issues that once improved upon would take Steinhaus Keller restaurant to an elevated level of dining experience. The atmosphere was a little dated, but the rustic look of a stone house cellar definitely helped pull you into a cultural emerging experience. Some improvements would be to have more organized host/hostesses station, which looked cluttered. I would also suggest the host/hostesses have a defined uniform with attire similar to the waiting staff instead of the host who was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. A well-kept host/hostesses area will help set the theme for the overall dining experience. The host area is the face of your restaurant. Many people see that as the first impression of any restaurant. The food experience was amazing. All of our meals were very flavorful with the perfect amount of seasoning. All of the meals tasted freshly prepared, and they were at the proper temperature. To highlight a few dishes as excellent would be the Braised Beef, the chicken cordon blu, and the beef stroganoff. All of the above-mentioned dishes were the best that we have ever experienced. The service experience is where I could see the most need of improvement. The waitress seemed overwhelmed or out of focus with her duties, which seems odd due to only having 6 occupied tables in the inside dining room. The waitress seemed a little impatient when my family and I were trying to order our meals. The waitress also ended up mixing up our drinks when she went to refill our glasses. The waitresses' demeanor just seemed very unwelcoming and short but never overtly mean or unprofessional. Some staff training in this area would do wonders for this restaurant to grow. I would recommend this restaurant to others, and I would definitely like to see some of the improvements upon a future visit.

I will preface this by saying that I have been to Germany four times for about 40 days total. I'm certainly not the most qualified judge of German fare but I have a decent bit of experience. No German restaurant I have ever visited in the US has come close to actual German cuisine; that is, until I visited Steinhaus Keller! The bread served as an appetizer was as close to German bread as I have had in the US. The pumpernickel loaf and the loaf with pumpkin seeds were the stars of the four varieties. Both were reminiscent of true German bread, though probably a little softer and sweeter than the real thing. For my entrée, I had the bone-in pork shank with an apple cider/burgundy reduction sauce, spätzle, and sauerkraut. I would have greatly preferred a savory beer sauce to the sweet reduction it was served with but it was still delicious! The sauerkraut was the best sauerkraut I have had at a US restaurant and the spätzle was solid. The beer selection is filled with a variety of German beers and my two dunkels hit the spot. The atmosphere was also the most authentic German experience I have had in the US. Set in an actual cellar (basement) with stone columns and walls, dim lighting, and German tunes playing softly I could have easily been convinced I was in Germany if only the staff spoke German. Now that I have shared the good with you, I will share my bad which all centers around the authenticity. The waitress was too attentive and I received the check while I still had food (very un-European). Also, the waitress did not insult me for ordering tap water (ok, this has only happened to me once in Germany and it was a light-hearted joshing). On a more serious note, one unique thing about beer in Germany is it is almost always served in a mug with the logo of the same brand on it. That's probably impossible with the variety Steinhaus Keller has but it would be a neat touch.

I cant review just yet. My mom and i made reservations for Sat June 17, 2023. My entire family is German born and raised. I was the only one born in NJ lol lol. Love the REAL german Weiners made of veal but anyways i read this review that im reposting below and it amazes me how quick they jump to racism. I had terrible experience in Tallahasse Fl with color and i have never ever ever had issues with them. We had wonderful family friends of color. To us they are not color they were our friends. Anyways I have to say im on the owners side!!!!!!!! Germans are very tough people but friendly people. I know I been to Germany. May the person in the review should travel more and get more aquainted with other cultures other than her own. Stop with the racism already. Im looking forward to the visit with my mom. So im hoping it will be a great one! I did read some that did not get good service and me being German too I do not hesitate to say something right then and there. lol lol

Well read post below: this is why i posted mine. After our meal ill post our experience. CYA Ruvarashe Matangira 1 review 8 months ago I was really excited to go to this restaurant with my friend after our hike in the city. German food, you usually can't go wrong...unfortunately they did go wrong in a way that didn't capture the spirit of actual German establishments.

When we arrived there were a group of guys maybe 5 ahead of us who didn't have a reservation. They were seated immediately and the hostess made space for them. However, when me and my friend wanted to be seated as well we were told it was a 2 hour wait. It honestly felt heavily discriminant and intentionally trying to shoo us out of there. We're both POC and could see plenty of seating available for two. We weren't greeted as friendly as the people ahead of us. Even after when a new group of 3 people came through the restaurant of the hostesses preferred skin tone with no reservation they were seated immediately.

Racism with less words and more actions defines this place.

I wouldn't put that personification on this cute town or the other restaurants around. Those ones were friendly, incredible ambience, and food worth coming back for.

This one not worth it. Save your money. 3 Response from the owner8 months ago As the owner of this establishment and the hostess, I will say this is categorically untrue. The 5 ahead of you got a seat because a 6 top had canceled 20 minutes ahead of their arrival. We had over 300 reservations for the oktoberfest celebration and we were unable to take walk ins. We turned away everyone without a reservation, over 100 people, regardless of their race, creed, sexual preference, dress, economic status, or appearance. I in fact turned away 2 sets of couples who offered to pay $100+ for a table. I deeply resent this review as I am German and I believe it is fully due to an old stereotype. Make a reservation during oktoberfest and you'll get a...

We were deciding between two places for dinner and landed on Steinhaus Keller, but I wish we didn’t. Our waitress was very sweet, which is the only compliment I can think to give them.

They had an extensive beer menu, but it took 3 attempts at ordering before finding one that was actually in stock. We ordered the pretzel appetizer, which was fine, smash-burgers, and both kids ordered their Mac n cheese. Both kids took one bite and couldn’t eat them. I tried it personally and completely understood. It tasted like the pretzel beer cheese was just poured over mushy pasta. We told the waitress and watched her go to the manager, then return and say that she was sorry, but they said there was nothing they could do. We split our burgers with the kids and watched the manager walk back and forth from our table numerous times while avoiding eye contact.

I asked our server and confirmed it was the manager she spoke to and his name. On the way out I stopped to talk to Matt and asked him why he wouldn’t even give us the courtesy of stopping by the table or switching out their food, instead just relaying “nothing could be done” to his customers. He said the waitress misunderstood and he would have switched out their food, but that he was told it was a preference issue and told her he wouldn’t remove a charge for whatever he meant by “preference issue”

He said he would walk to the server about her misunderstanding since he told her she could switch it out and she didn’t. I then asked him how he could throw his own employee under the bus, when he walked by customers he knew were unhappy repeatedly without saying a word.

The waitress was kind and helpful, while he avoided the tables and sat at a stool the entire time. After years in food service industry and customer service, I would never expect a manager to act the way theirs did, and regret that we spent money here. The manager’s Matt’s attitude was so dismissive and rude, I have to say disappointed is an...
