I’m from Dallas so I did my research before I came. Also hearing all the Houston drama of Matcha tok on (tiktok). I wanted to make sure I went to the best place.
I’m so happy I ended up here. I ended up ordering two drinks lol. A carrot cake latte and a matcha!
The carrot cake match was good. It wasn’t overly sweet. I honestly wouldn’t have minded if it was a bit more sweet. But I have a crazy sweet tooth. So it was probably perfect for the average bear. I really enjoyed this latte.
I ordered a matcha because from all my research they make some of the best in town. I really enjoyed my match the color was 10/10, the texture was 10/10, smoothness was 10/10. I basically asked the barista who was very helpful how I should get my Matcha made. She was very friendly and I basically got my Matcha made how she thought I should. I don’t really remember what’s in here I just know it’s oat milk and she might’ve put some cinnamon honey and vanilla in there. I don’t know what combo she ended up with, but it was really good.
I also ordered the vegetarian chorizo taco I actually took two bites of it. I didn’t end up loving it. There was just so much potato in there and I just was not a big fan but their green sauce that it was good.
As for the atmosphere, it’s really cute in here, but you have to be aware that it is very tiny. It’s not a type of place that you would make an appointment to meet up to have a conversation with someone. There is a guy who actually looked like he was doing a business meeting and he apologized to the other man who showed up being like I’m sorry I thought it was bigger in here so it’s kind of like grab and go. They do have outside seating though and...
Read moreGiant Leap Coffee is a great little coffee shop nestled in Uptown Park. They offer coffee roasted by Houston roaster Amaya as well as an assortment of teas and pastries. They also offer a rotating selection of seasonal drinks.
Ambience and service: There's ample parking around the coffee shop, a small amount of seating inside with several outlets for those studying, and a good amount of outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is dog friendly! The interior is nice and clean, and the aesthetic is hip and casual. There's merch at the front, a bathroom in the back, and a cool little area with some history about how the coffee shop was founded by a former NASA astronaut (hence the name and space theme throughout). Very cool! The baristas were nice and explained the menu well. There's wifi!
Drinks: We ordered a mocha latte and iced Jasmine white tea. The latte had a great balance of espresso, milk, and chocolate -- you could really taste the coffee, you got a great texture from the whole milk, and the chocolate added an extra little sweetness that complemented the espresso well. The tea was refreshing and the flavor was robust (for a Jasmine white tea) even despite the fact that it was iced - not diluted at all. It was calming and fragrant, reminding me of the authentic flavor I've had from some loose leaf Jasmine white tea before.
Overall, we were very impressed by the quality of the drinks here and are looking forward to coming back. The prices are also very reasonable compared to many other coffee shops around Houston, making this place even better! Make sure to give this place a try if you need a coffee fix while in the...
Read moreI visited Giant Leap Coffee on 6/22/25 and placed an in-person order for two Vanilla Rose Matchas. Instead, we were given two Vanilla Rose Coffees. I immediately told the barista this wasn’t what I ordered—I don’t drink coffee—and asked if they could remake the drinks. I was told they couldn’t due to “store policy” and that I’d have to pay again if I wanted the correct drinks. I ended up doing so just to get what I originally ordered, leaving me with two drinks I couldn’t consume and that went to waste.
I emailed the business that same day requesting a refund or store credit, as well as a copy of their official store policy. It’s now been several days, and I’ve received no response at all—no refund, no remake, no apology, and no acknowledgement of my message.
To make matters worse, my friend (who was with me during the original visit) went back again recently because she actually really enjoys the place. When she went, the same staff member who took our order assumed she was me, called her by my name, and winked at her—a clear sign that my email was seen and discussed internally. Not only was this unprofessional and uncomfortable for her, but it also confirms that they’re choosing to ignore customer concerns rather than address them properly.
I’ve supported many small businesses and never experienced one that refuses to correct their own mistake, ignores follow-up communication, and behaves this unprofessionally. I expected better and won’t...
