Me and my husband came here last Sunday and it was amazing! Great poets, food EXCEEDED my expectations. We shared a fish plate with fries and two nice size jalapeños. Somebody in the kitchen know what they doing!
Our drinks were tequila sunrise and Long Island iced tea. They weren’t stingy with the liquor although I’ve had better drinks. They were still good.
The atmosphere was inclusive it didn’t feel weird you can tell the whole atmosphere was a laid back vibe. What topped it off for us was the live DJ. He was lit! The audience was lit too it was a whole vibe! The age range of people there were a mix of middle age and above and the people that were late 20’s you can tell we’re mature and in the “grown and sexy” class! I enjoyed this place. We going back this Sunday!
Also, if you plan on eating I would pay a bit extra for a table because general admissions you would have to eat in your lap or at the bar. Get there earlier before the show to get seats that you would like. We sat on side and I would have preferred being more towards center. Host was fun...
Read moreWe booked this venue for a company event and were very disappointed. We paid for the venue, dj, food, and drinks, and according to every listing/booking details, we had booked the VENUE. Never states you are only booking one floor of the venue, were never asked what floor we preferred, NOTHING until we arrived at the venue to another party being on the first floor. Their only argument was that the listing states "each floor is x sqft" as if we would have deduced it from that. After bringing up every email and booking detail to prove the flat out lack of communication, we told to "make the best of it". The floor we had looked like a storage space with old couches lining the walls and folding chairs stacked in a corner. Props to staff for moving what they could when we asked, but disappointed it wasn't ready for us when we got there. DJ was booked through the venue and didn't start until 45 minutes after he was supposed to. Would never recommend or book again purely because of the false advertising, lack of communication, and uncaring...
Read moreI visited Henke & Pillot for Poetry Sundays. The talented poets were amazing, and the food was very delicious. I ordered the 2 fish and 6 shrimp that came with hush puppies, and fries. It was full of flavor and good serving size. I ended up taking half my food home.
Parking: There was free parking along the street but downtown Houston is normally always busy, so you'd have to hunt for a spot. They did offer Valet in front of the building for $40 or valet across the street about a 1-2 min walk for $20. Cash or card for payment options.
I really enjoyed myself and do plan to return! I down scored one star because the tables and chairs were not clean. The bar stools appeared to be extremely old, cracked and wobbly. Our table was dirty and had an eyelash cluster, hair that was stuck, possibly dried ketchup ,and some change (coins) someone left behind. Considering they're open only on Sundays, I think they could do a better job with...
