Our go to now. My husband has tried another JLB location, and we've seen this location on Gessner so many times, but we kept putting it off, for no apparent reason.
We came on a Saturday evening for early dinner. Walking in, there were people all around waiting for their orders or eating. Showed us a good sign and we were hopeful. We went to the front and an employee came from the kitchen and asked if we were ready, since it was our first time, we told her we'd need a minute. She let us know to ring the bell when we were ready, so no rush on either ends. We ordered the kid's meal chicken tenders, the hamburger meal & pork chop sandwich meal. Let me tell you, the portions were HUGE! My husband and I shared the pork chop sandwich and my mother in law shared her burger. 3 adults ate from the burger & pork chop sandwich and we couldn't even finish the burger! The burger was well done, seasoned well & juicy. The pork chop sandwich was thin, juicy & seasoned well. The pork chop was small for the sandwich itself, but it was just perfect for us. Now, the chicken tenders were massive. It was like they gave us a whole chicken breast. And for to go for my husband's grandpa, we ordered the fish & shrimp meal. Well, once again we were still surprised at how big that portion was too. 2 large pieces of fish, 6 huge shrimps, fries & onion rings with a hushpuppy & toast. We said that alone was enough to feed 2 people.
So if you want a huge homemade burger, JLB is one you're not going...
Read moreJLB Eatery on Gessner is a Houston gem for serious comfort food cravings. If you're looking for big flavors and hearty portions, this is your spot.
The Cajun wings are a must-try. They're crispy, perfectly seasoned with that signature Cajun kick, and a great way to start your meal (or make a meal out of them if you're a wing aficionado!). The flavor is spot on, with a good balance of spice that's not overwhelming but definitely present.
But the real showstopper for me was the Bacon Patty Melt with an egg on it. This is not your average patty melt. The beef patty is juicy and well-cooked, the crispy bacon adds that irresistible smoky saltiness, and the grilled onions bring a lovely sweetness. But adding the fried egg elevates it to another level of deliciousness, creating a rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying bite with every mouthful. The homemade bread they use is perfectly toasted, providing a sturdy and flavorful base for all those amazing ingredients. It's a truly indulgent and perfectly executed sandwich that's worth every bite.
Overall, JLB Eatery delivers on its promise of delicious, substantial food. The atmosphere is casual, and the focus is clearly on quality ingredients and satisfying dishes. If you're in the area and hungry for some seriously good eats, especially those Cajun wings and that phenomenal Bacon Patty Melt, JLB Eatery on Gessner is highly...

This place is curious, I believe it's a fantastic burger joint with only a few flaws. The curly fries are crispy and crunchy. JLB burger itself is about 4x the size of a big Mac alone and has a strong meaty taste due to the beef.
The Cajun wings meat are like Popeyes meat. The skin is lackluster so it needs a seasoning.
Chili is fantastic and the cheese is just nacho cheese. Very reminiscent of sonic chili cheese tots but better chili.
Overall for the burger+ fries it's a solid A, there may be an issue with the seasoning with the normal fries... which is solved by just having some salt, Cajun, or by converting it into curly fries. Price wise, it's about a costly 18-19$ for a combo.
Cajun wings were lackluster and disappointing, I would recommend not getting plain wings.
Chili cheese tater tots was not pleasant and makes the usual mess, but would be good for a chili cheese Frito bag. I would recommend just chili.
Edit: went again on 10.27.23 ordered a patty melt thinking it'll be like whataburger. It's not, has egg cheese and bacon.
Also side note, it seems the cheese is normally hot but with chills super quickly, very...
