Mama Nini's Gyros — Restaurant in Houston

Arrived to pickup, place has a ‘Back in Five Minutes’ sign - waited around for fifteen minutes for someone to show up, no answer when we called. Eventually someone arrived and ‘began’ making our food, but they got there after our food was due to be ready - we were on a time crunch hence we didn’t cook ourselves, but frankly this took just as long. Turn off online ordering if you’re going to run an errand please.

So, what about the food? We got a chicken gyros, doner kebab, large fries, four falafel, pita and hummus. The hummus was grainy, not like I’m used to, and had a sharpness that wasn’t so pleasant. The falafel is pretty standard, definitely not handmade, nothing great. The gyros is fantastic - I had the chicken, my husband had the doner - really good. Wish the meat was hot, that would make this our go-to. Pita bread had that chewiness that signals authenticity, really nice. The fries were the best fries we’ve had in Houston. Fantastic. It’s a reasonable price - our whole order cost $28.15.

I wish they had a garlic sauce, so I could get that instead of tzatziki - I hope they add that...

Will you remember this gyro forever - probably not. The food is decent. However this place gets 5 stars because the price is exactly where it should be - which is all too rare these days. Good value fare, would go back but would probably ask for less salt...
