My husband and I met at Pena's for lunch on Dec. 2nd, and we were warmly greeted by the owner, Ray Pena. When our orders of chicken and waffles arrived, we both dug in. I tasted my chicken and it was tender and juicy, but on the other hand, my husband had eaten a large bite, but said it tasted chewy and rubbery. He cut into the middle of his chicken and noticed it was slightly pink. It was cause for concern, so my husband asked Ray if it was safe to eat. Ray said it was safe, but he also said, "It was borderline and it could've cooked another minute". Ray graciously offered to make my husband another plate. When the second plate arrived, my husband cut into his chicken and looked at it before taking a bite. This piece was also slightly pink in the middle, but my husband tasted it, he said it was fine and he ate all of it. We had a pleasant dining experience, and the staff was very friendly. Unfortunately, within 2 hours of lunch, my husband became violently ill with food poisoning symptoms. He phoned Ray to let him know he suspected the chicken made him sick, and Ray raised his voice and started yelling at my husband. Ray said,"NO ONE HAS EVER GOTTEN SICK IN MY RESTAURANTS". Ray continued yelling and it forced my husband to hang up on him. My poor husband did NOTHING to provoke Ray's shocking verbal attack. He wasn't asking Ray for anything, he just wanted Ray to be aware of the situation. There is absolutely NO excuse for Ray's aggressive and arrogant behavior. What happened to the friendly business owner we met earlier that day? Ray Pena is clearly not the nice guy he appears to be. He clearly doesn't want to hear that there is a problem in his establishement. We will obviously take our...
Read moreWalked in today accidentally after meaning to drive to Peñas Donut Heaven & grill on shadow creek parkway. Since I was already there my family and I decided to give it a try. First time I ever walk out of an establishment because of customer service. When we arrived my wife and sister in law started to get on line to order. No one else was on line waiting. I was walking towards a table to take seat while my wife ordered especially because I was carrying my 3 month old daughter in her car seat carrier. A young lady with glasses (employee) said from the other end of the store sorry you have too order first and than you could sit. I told her that my wife will be ordering so I was just choosing my table. She said no you still have to order first. Ok, so I understand company policy might be order first than sit but there was no line for ordering meaning we would be have been sitting next. I was carrying a baby so what is the issue with me just sitting down and putting her down. If there was at least one other customer infront of us then I completely understand but there was none. Maybe 3 other tables out of 10 were occupied. All available tables were within social distances. So that wasn't the issue because than they would of told us we would have to wait for someone to leave. Anyways we just turned around and left, drove to Peñas on shadow creek in Pearland which we should have in the first place and it was all forgotten. Maybe they should send their employees here to learn what better...
Read moreWho would have thought there was a decent brunch place near our house! I was craving brunch items but did not want to drive into town and deal with the superbowl madness. So I popped up yelp, expecting to at least drive to clear lake or deep into pearland to find something. But this place popped up only minutes from our house.
When I pulled up, I realized I have seen this place before when going to the starbucks at the corner.
They have a very nice greeter at the door that hands you a menu. You then walk through the line to order drinks (coffee), and their donut case. This line moves slowly so you have plenty of time to review the menu. We got the cronuts and their maple bacon donut. We got a few other items too but those were the only memorable. The maple bacon was so good that we ended up getting some to go afterwards.
As far as the brunch items, we got the chicken and waffles, it was solid, nothing spectacular, but definitely good. The Benedict flight was a bit disappointing. We got the garden, the bbq, and the mexican? the egg consistency was not there. The egg on the garden was cooked correctly, but the one on the mexican one was overcooked.
Overall, I'll probably just stick the donuts and simplier items. The "brunch" type items were just OK and took a really long time to come out. I think items like breakfast sandwiches and breakfast tacos...
