July 11, 2025 Update: Introduced the restaurant to a friend and went with them to assist in ordering for a dinner party at their house. While there decided to pick up a few dishes for dinner. Sadly having to dock stars as the to-go food was not up to snuff, compared to the high price charged. Ordered Sarson da Saag (a favorite, and tasted superb at the previous dine-in below, but was undersalted this time), Dal Bukhara (which turned out to be nothing but Dal Makhani, and was low on salt and flavor), and based on the owner’s recommendation, Chicken Curry, as it was being made afresh (requested spicy, but again turned out to be bland, undersalted and low on flavor - a meh dish overall as it did not have any veggies in it either). The experience was underwhelming this time, sadly, while the cost was high for the quantity and quality on offer. A note to self to not order to-go again; rather dine in-house and hourly be wowed again as the first time! Still a favorite in the area, hope this experience was an aberration!
Do patronize this restaurant. The family-run establishment serves freshly made, tasty Punjabi food. Raman and her family and crew work hard to satisfy and are eager that patrons enjoy the ambience and food. The restaurant is located in the Williwbrook Mall area, to the west of I-45 and in the former 59 Diner/Dimassis building. The interior has been tastefully redone in an aqua-colored theme. Food arrives as it is cooked and is fresh and flavorful. Ordered Gol Gappe (Pani Puri) for starters together with Mango Lassi and Mango Mojito mocktail. Entrees consisted of Paneer Kulcha with Chole (the Kulcha was very tasty though it looked a tad overdone - necessarily so, according to Raman), Murgh Hariyali (which arrived sizzling), Sarson da Saag and Makai ki Roti (a Punjabi classic not commonly on the menu in Indian restaurants and superbly cooked here), Chicken Kolhapuri with Basmati Rice and Garlic Naan. Dessert consisted of hot Carrot Halwa. Service, while warm, could be a bit more organized - we waited a while before we were attended to. However, the tasty food, warmth of the welcome and solicitous attention thereafter, more than made up for it. The entire meal for three set us back $92 (before tax and tips). Entirely worth it and the family owners deserve the local community’s support! We plan to...
Read moreI was excited to try this place. But my first and last time here. We went in for dinner. No one was there at the front to attend. One person showed up after a few mins and took us to the table. It was dinner time and there was only one party seated inside, the rest of the place was empty.
The food was fine- nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about either. Pricy for the portion size and quality. Our appetizers arrived before our drinks! No matter what was the sequence of our food order or what was ordered first, the staff kept bringing things at random times.
Why one star review? Here is the reason- Our server made the entire experience feel like a sarcastic improv show that none of us auditioned for. From the start, he acted like answering basic questions was a personal burden. He constantly kelp being sarcastic, rude and didn’t have a basic sense of talking to the customer.
He wasn’t absent. He wasn’t slow. He was just consistently rude, in that dry, sarcastic way that makes you wonder if it’s a joke — except it never stopped being unfunny.
Food: 3/5 Service: 0/5 Attitude: 10/10 if you’re into being lightly insulted with your entrée.
Who cares if they have an expensive interior and good ambiance if their staff is not welcoming and lacks basic customer service skills?
Not sure how much they care about their customers but they lost one for sure and probably many others because I will not be recommending this place to anyone. And unfortunately if they don’t train their staff to be polite, not sure how long they will last in this tough market. Don’t waste your time and money here, give your business to someone who is honest and respects...
Read moreI just couldn’t resist posting this review - sorry!! Unfortunately our to-go order with over 10 items turned out horrible beyond our imagination. All paneer dishes were simply inedible due to the extraordinarily tough paneer - I couldn’t tell if it was stale, carelessly deep fried, fake/imitation paneer or all of the above - simply can’t imagine how otherwise you get a hammered texture in all those preparations - paneer tikka masala, chilli paneer, and paneer lababdar. The curry sauces were heavy on cream without any real or distinct flavor profile - c’mmon, you can do better than that running an Indian restaurant! The Malai Kofta, Veg noodles and even the samosas were disappointing in their own ways. Very underwhelming experience despite online positive reviews that drew us to Raahi in the first place. If we didn’t live as far as we do, would’ve certainly taken all those back to the restaurant. The only saving grace in my experience was the good natured front of house staff. To the chef/owners - if the food quality isn’t up to the mark and consistent, Houston has many good Indian restaurants that will eat your lunch. Start paying attention to what goes out of your kitchen (or even tasting yourself) and when in doubt, simply don’t serve it!
Also, giving the 5-star reviews a closer look, it appears many are fake/misleading with the reviewer having only left one or two reviews ever. Rather than giving yourselves 5 stars and thanking in return, perhaps the kitchen should focus on making better food and doing it consistently, so Raahi can truly garner a real fan following and success.
The whole experience has been unpleasant - sorry, never...
