The Capital Grille — Restaurant in Houston

Capital grille has been a staple for special occasions, business dinners, and fun nights out for over 10 years. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.

We brought 2 couples with us to capital grille to celebrate my 51st birthday and looked forward to the “generous pour” wine event that evening. All went well, the generous pour walked us through multiple varietals of wines throughout our meal, but in the end, when the meal was almost over - we asked for an additional top off of the last Cabernet and were told we were cut off.

What?

During dinner, We hadn’t had anything to drink aside from what the restaurant had poured us during the generous pour? The manager explained that we were too loud and other patrons complained about our table and volume. Im sorry, at the capital grille, if we were being disruptive, the waiter should have popped by and asked us to please be courteous of others. That didn’t happen. I feel there are many better ways that this could have been resolved with a quiet word or comment from the waiter if this was indeed the problem.

I feel the real reason we were cutoff was because we asked for a top off of the last wine in the generous pour and when the waiter asked the manager he said no, which then carried further into our group being completely cut off with no explanation. We never raised a stir or caused a scene about it, but I did discuss with the manager at the front when we left.

Now, I’ll bet If we had asked for a bottle of hundred acre at full price, I’m certain they would have obliged and poured the wine, but instead, they chose to treat our birthday celebration like we had caused a problem, were disruptive.

We had a great meal, our friends had great conversations - but we were NOT drunk and shouldn’t have been treated like we were the class clown. Again, many different ways this could have been addressed, and I’ll say their way was a customer service fail.

It ended up taking a very fun and enjoyable dinner for my birthday down to something less than classy and I doubt I’ll celebrate here ever again.

Again, I’ve held capital grille in the utmost esteem for as many years as I can remember, but it only takes one act of bad service to be done in my mind. Sorry capital grille, you lost my business over 2 oz of wine. There are simply too many restaurant greats in Houston to treat...

Update 8/7/2024: Still awesome! Went back to celebrate my wife's birthday and were lucky enough to once again have David as our server! Enjoyed the $55 Houston Restaurant Weeks special, and were not disappointed! Everything was prepared to perfecttion! Compliments to Chef Jeff!! Wife enjoyed the Generous Pour wine tasting! David did a superb job explaining each wine selection as it was served. My stepmother's dietary restrictions were given top priority to ensure that she also enjoyed her meal. Went with the cheesecake for dessert this time and it was off the charts delicious! We will go back again and again. Cannot say enough about how much we love this place. Special shout out to Damarys, too. She provided excellent service to our table as well! Atmosphere was great! Not too loud this time. Bump atmosphere rating from 4 stars to 5!

May 18, 2024: Chose Capital Grille to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were very happy with our experience! Our table was prepared with an anniversary theme before we arrived (we had reservations) and set the tone for our celebration from the moment we sat down. Our server, David, was very attentive to every aspect of our experience and ensured we were well taken care of. In fact all of the staff were amazing. The food was near perfect and did not disappoint. The minor issues we had - burnt and bitter garlic in the spinach and too salty scallops - were immediately addressed and corrected without hesitation. The lamb chops and bone-in filet mignon were cooked to perfection and exceeded expectations. The scallops add-on were incredible. For sides we had the sauteed spinach and mashed potatoes and recommend 100%! The flourless chocolate espresso cake was the perfect accompaniment to finish our bottle of Malbec. Our only criticism would be with regard to the atmosphere... it was extremely loud and difficult for us to have a conversation at our table. But that is more the fault of the other parties seated around us. 9/10 we will...

I had lunch today at The Capital Grille in CityCentre, Houston, and it was an experience I felt compelled to share. As someone who has visited many locations of The Capital Grille in the past, I decided to switch things up this time and try one of their highly praised burgers. It turned out to be a fantastic choice!

The ambiance at this location is both sophisticated and inviting, with dark wood accents and soft lighting that create a warm atmosphere. It's the perfect setting for a special occasion or just a nice night out. One of the highlights of the restaurant is its extensive wine list, featuring over 350 selections from renowned vineyards around the world. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and helped me pick a wine that paired perfectly with my meal.

Now, onto the burger—it was one of the best I've ever had! Juicy and cooked to perfection, it was topped with fresh ingredients that made each bite incredibly satisfying. The fries that accompanied the burger were equally delicious, crispy, and seasoned just right.

Service at The Capital Grille was exceptional. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring that our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. Additionally, the valet parking for just $5 made it easy to relax and enjoy without worrying about parking.

The CityCentre location itself is a vibrant area filled with shops and boutiques, making it a great destination for a meal after some retail therapy. There’s plenty to explore nearby, which adds to the overall experience.

In summary, my visit to The Capital Grille in CityCentre was a delightful one. While I have enjoyed many meals at various locations in the past, trying the burger this time was a refreshing change that I highly recommend.
