Yesterday afternoon I went to daily gather with my friend and we had a horrible experience, we come here once a week and this is the second bad experience we have had. We sat at the bar and at first and we had a heavy set server with a cartilage ear piercing dark hair and a comb over hairdo he only asked my friend what he wanted to eat, the server took his order for wings went to the back and disappeared, he never came back to check on me and ask what I wanted, 20 minutes go by and kitchen staff bring his wings out. I’m still sitting at the bar order not taken. The original server is nowhere to be found. My friend flags down another server named Evan and ask if he can take my order and he did and my wings were brought out quickly. The original server then comes and back out and is standing near the water area with some other coworkers talking and they keep looking over at us yet he never comes to check on us. We ended up ordering a Carafe from Evan and continue enjoying our meal. When it is time to pay we ask the server Evan if they take Apple Pay and he says no but if you have your card number we can charge it, which I found weird I have never been asked for my card number by a restaurant. We ask Evan to split the bill down the middle evenly which would mean that each bill would have an order of wings and half the price of the carafe for each person totaling to about 22$ per person. When Evan brings back the bill my bill is 33$ with two orders of wings and half the price of the Carafe and my friends is just a half price of the carafe so 11$. This is so frustrating for me because if we told you to split the bill down the middle why would you put 33$ on one check and 11$ on the other, we are two people and we each had one order of wings, I am not a server but I have been to plenty of restaurants and I would assume this is basic server etiquette, he fixed the check promptly. The reason I am so dissatisfied with my service is because this also happened last weekend we had the same exact order of two wings and a carafe last weekend and once again he charged me for a whole carafe and order of wings and only charged my friend for an order of wings when once again we had requested the bill to be split down the middle. On the way out the restaurant the host and greeters by the door just stared at me silently and I had to be the one to speak first and tell them to have a nice day, this was confusing to me because why I am doing your job and I don’t even work here. I am not a person to complain and this is my first time ever writing something like this about a restaurant, but this was the worst experience I have had at a restaurant ever in my life and I have lived in two states. I felt uncomfortable in the establishment like I was being judged, a customer should never feel unheard and have to beg for a servers attention, and servers should be able to do basic math when it comes to dividing checks. Hopefully you read this email and make some changes because this service was absolutely...
Read moreWe went for their grand opening on January 11th; the interior design is modern and beautiful, yet it felt very cozy. We were greeted and seated within minutes. Unfortunately, we were sitting in a very high trafficked area, right behind/next to the kitchen door, so waiters and bussers would walk by every second; it was also a bit too loud to have a conversation, maybe because we were close to all the commotion. The space citrus drink was pretty tasty and refreshing. We didn't have to wait long to get our appetizers; the crispy calamari's sauce was amazing and the oysters were very fresh, will definitely have them again. The rotisserie chicken was flavorful. The trout was well seasoned, but it wasn't hot at all; none of the entrees were served hot; they were just warm. The pomme frites aka French fries were well seasoned, crispy, and served straight out of the fryer, might've been the best thing I had besides the oysters. My sister got the butcher burger; it was seasoned well and cooked to the right temperature, but I did not like the dijon mustard, but that's just a personal preference.
Also, for all the City Centre residents, they do not offer a neighborhood discount like all the other establishments; it's ok though, just an observation and has nothing to do with my rating.
Update: Finally went to their brunch, it was AMAZING! So good I forgot to take pics, I ordered the Ranch Style Eggs, and trust me I could eat that every single day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But don't get it with avocado since it's only about 4 tiny pieces.
Update: 12/31/23 I had previously given Daily Gather a glowing 5-star review, but unfortunately, this time, I can only provide a 3-star rating. My recent visit left much to be desired, primarily due to the noticeable decline in customer service and food quality. The service by our waitress was quite lacking. It took an astonishing 20+ minutes to receive our order of fries, and to make matters worse, my mom’s side dish was completely incorrect. Furthermore, the portion of fries I received appeared to be only a fraction of the regular order, and they arrived cold. As for the burger, the patties barely covered half of the bun, leaving me disappointed. What’s particularly concerning is that the restaurant was nearly empty at 6 pm on New Year’s Eve. Given the lack of patrons, there’s no excuse for the subpar service and food quality that we experienced. I hope this feedback serves as constructive criticism because I had previously enjoyed my experiences at Daily Gather. It’s my hope that they can address these issues to regain the level of excellence I’ve...
Read moreThe Daily Gather is a New American restaurant developed by the same minds who brought Dish Society to Houston. They aim to offer a seasonal menu with quality ingredients and diverse culinary influences. Our meal here was fantastic and we are excited to come back and try the new seasonal offerings!
Vibe - the restaurant is located in City center, right beside one of the parking garages, and it's beautiful! The perfect ambiance for a formal but still casual environment, and a great outdoor patio space too. There's also a nice photo op in the front.
Food - we ordered the charcuterie board, Caesar salad, Lola's spaghetti, and brisket French dip. The cheeses, seasoned nuts, fruits, and cured meats were incredibly delicious and they were pretty generous with the portions. I really enjoyed how the caesar salad consisted of entire leaves of romain lettuce coated with caesar dressing and grated parmesan cheese. The white anchovies on the salad were a smart choice as they were more mild than traditional anchovies, less oily, leaner, and meatier - it added a good amount of substance to the salad. The pasta was cooked to a perfect al-dente, and the sauce clung to the pasta beautifully and provided a robust marinara flavor complemented by the fresh ricotta. The brisket French dip was stupid good. They provide a heaping mound of moist brisket between two fresh pretzel buns along with a brisket dipping broth and fries. While eating the sandwhich alone was incredibly, dipping it into the broth added an unreal wave of umami meaty goodness that elevated the sandwhich to another level. Even though the brisket takes center stage, the pretzel bun notably complements the meatiness by providing its own pretzel flavor while also serving as a sponge that soaks up all the flavors. Horseradish aioli and swiss cheese provide an additional layer of acidity, creaminess, and brightness to balance out the savory notes. The fries were also incredible - delicous and super crunchy.
Drinks - we ordered the blueberry lemon thyme (BLT) drink and strawberry lemonade. They were both delicious and refreshing! We wanted to try the daily juices but they were sold out.
Service - our server was very kind and attentive.
Overall, the Daily Gather indeed lives up to its name as a place that we definitely want to return to everyday for great service and incredible food at a fair price given the stellar quality. Next time someone wants to meet up, definitely come here if you want to impress while dining on truly...
