UPDATE 07/21/2021: The owner messaged me on Yelp asking that I send an email to them so that they could speak with me and address my concerns. I immediately sent that email. I did not receive a response. I messaged the owner on Yelp to let them know. Maybe, my email got lost in the inbox. I have not heard back from the owner. That speaks volumes. I may not return after all. There are plenty of places to brunch in Houston.
I am going to base my review on the food and service. But, I will also include details of our server's inappropriate behavior. I'm not going to deduct stars for his behavior as he is simply one employee.
A friend and I visited this Toasted Yolk location for a Friday brunch. It looks pretty clean. We were immediately addressed by the manager and advised to sit wherever we like. We were a little surprised that almost none of the staff was wearing masks. Obviously, that is up to them, just like it is up to the businesses who choose to have their staff wear masks. Just a detail you may want to take into account before you visit.
Our server greeted us quickly and informed us of the Friday HH (1/2 price) drinks. He was quite over the top. I think he started screaming our greeting from 2 tables away and while my friend answered a phone call. He tried to push us to order HH drinks several times. But, I know that is what he is supposed to do. I was very quickly put off. This was made worse by the fact that he kept addressing us as, "baby." It just made me feel gross every time he said it. He said it so often that you would have thought we were a young couple in love. So inappropriate. I ordered the West Coast Arnold, a version of eggs benedict (two English muffin halves topped with cajun turkey, bacon, tomato, guacamole, two poached eggs, and topped with Cholula ranch) with hashbrown casserole. Our server was very thorough. He reviewed things we could add, and remove, and repeated our orders back to us. Our food arrived fairly quickly, delivered by the manager and another staff member. I was very happy to see how all of the staff works together. That is very important in a restaurant. Our server checked on us a few times and was just attentive enough (even though he still addressed us both as "baby"). My West Coast Arnold was very good! I had the Cholula ranch put on the side just in case I didn't like it (as compared to traditional hollandaise sauce). But, it was really good! I look forward to having it, again! My friend and I shared a slice of french toast and it does not disappoint! Firm, crispy on the outside, thick cut of bread and not soggy.
Overall, the food is good and the staff is friendly. I need to go back and try...
Read moreIf I could give half a star I would.. I ordered a Southern Fried Arnold at this location a moment ago. I asked for my to-go order to be prepared fresh as to I was willing to WAIT. Meaning.. FRY MY CHICKEN FRESH. Needless to say I got to work which is around the corner and noticed I had dry chicken on my biscuit. I called up there.. Azia who worked the bar stated "What you mean by fresh?" There is no other way to express fresh cooked food and said her manager was busy. I immediately went back to the location and Azia immediately said the manager wasn't available (Meagan) which I saw her walking off with a green shirt when I walked in.. I told her the chicken wasn't hot only warm (most likely by a heat lamp) and VERY dry on the inside. Azia stated "You want a refund" then went on to state the kitchen said they had prepared it fresh the first time. She never even loked at the food. Easy solution when you have no desire to be great. Azia then told me, "I don't know how else to tell them to make it". Well if she didnt know what fresh mean how could she tell them. I'm just curious! If this is the type of service yall offer then EVERYONE should stay away. If you visit this location order your food without the gravy and see how subpar your food is. Ridiculous.. they need someone there who knows the meaning of "fresh" cooked food. This place is MEDICORE at best and their customer service is as trash...
Read moreI come to this place every month Since October. In October I had the best experience with a friend of mine. Every time I've came for breakfast after alone it seems that the customer service has went down. I am always offered the bar area not a booth or table . The two bartenders make it seem like they cant work hand to hand. I take the bar seat hoping service is better but it's not. I've set at least 25 mins after been giving a menu to order while watching the other customer's (2or more) place orders and get food immediately. Today I went in thinking this time will be different. I walked in and the Lady that was the greater she asked would you like to sit at the bar? I told her no thank you. She then offered a high top table next to the window. I followed her and she sat me at the high top chair in the bar area..... I felt like what I wanted as a customer did not Matter. I ordered coffee my cup was dirty.. I couldn't tell the bartenders at the Time because they never came back until I had received my food. I tried talking to one of the ladies bartender's but she turned and walked away immediately. I wanted to ask for plastic utensils because my coffee cup was dirty. I didn't get a chance. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY POOR AND I WILL NOT BE COMING back to this place. I don't recommend anyone donning alone...
