Edited August 2018:

This is the saddest thing I've ever had to do on Google maps... I've had to demote one of my favorite things to do in Houston to one star. I'm genuinely emotional about this. If you wanna see how hardcore I fanboyed Chocolate bar when it was under the original owners, I left the original review below. Note that none of that applies anymore...

The chocolate praline cake is now just randalls store bought praline cake, thin crust.

The tres leches was made with spoiled milk.

The uncle deryls is barely frosted and no longer has thick layers.

Half the cake flavors are gone.

The ice cream is made off site now.

The truffle cake is floury, deflated, and sad.

No more chocolate espresso beans with the black Russian, which is a shadow of it's former self.

For shame, new owners. Why didn't you just franchise a McDonald's if you wanted money?

Old review below... Pic comparing thicc crust old praline pie with wet paper towel new one in images.

EDITEDIT: The new owners have the ability to contest images, so they keep removing the picture of the way the praline pie used to look. They really are lower than low.

I cannot express to you how amazing their cakes are. I'm not even going to talk about their chocolate and ice cream selection. It's not necessary.

You go there, you get cake, you melt. I swear to all that is holy this place is the anathema to willpower and diets. I'm the kinda guy that eats salmon salads and likes broccoli, and then I come here and it's all over. You got your Black Russian cheesecakes, Boston Cream Pie Cakes, seven feet tall specialties like Uncle Joe's "We're gonna murder you with chocolate" cake (not the actual name but you know).

Everytime someone new to Houston visits, I take them here. We go to the museum, work up some calorie deficit, and then eat a slice of cake that could feed a small Caribbean nation for a week.

And, after you try all their cakes, they have another location with different...

I have never been so disappointed and never met a dessert I didn’t like but this one take the cake!!! No pun intended. I ordered through Uber Eats because PMS had a chokehold on me and what do we need during that time? CHOCOLATE! So I decided to get a double dose for lunch. I ordered Aunt Etta’s chocolate cake and The Any Day’s a Holiday vanilla and chocolate cake with chocolate icing. For $13.50 per slice I expect a fresh cake, this was SUPER DRY! I mean dry like the Sahara dessert. The only moist thing on the cake was the filling/icing which was cold. So these are dry refrigerated cakes that had a super artificial /chemical like taste. I’ve had better cake from H‑E‑B and I’m a baker, so I’m not a fan, but they are at every kid’s party I go to. So, I have my taste jt, because kids don’t lie and it they said it was also really really dry. I took a bite of the Aunt Etta’s chocolate cake and spit it out. I’m a baker, I know what fresh cake and real cake tastes like, this cake tasted spoiled and rancid and I’m so disappointed and upset that I wasted over $30 for two pieces of cake. The only positive is that the slices are huge but the cakes definitely aren’t fresh. If you’re serving spoiled cake, there’s bigger issues. We had to toss boss slices in the trash. Based upon the reviews and my excitement for trying a local dessert place, I was excited but this is what I get for cheating on myself . Quality wasn’t good. Make fresh cakes, these taste like low quality box cakes and for the price it just...

On a whim I wanted cake today. So I came in here for some Vanilla Tres Leches and OMG cheesecake. The selection of cakes were spectacular. Woahhhh... Two slices of cake and a water was $25! That’s a steep price for cake but the slices they give you are pretty large, definitely a splurge for the wallet.

I am disappointed that they didn’t have WiFi that reached to the “front” of the building. The staff said I would have to sit near the back and the name for the WiFi was weird and they weren’t sure if the WiFi even worked! So I used my hot spot.

It doesn’t seem like the staff cleans regularly in the front. There was ice cream drops on the floor and plastic wrappers on the tables and ground. We had to wipe off our table and as you can see ice cream under our table. Gross!

The OMG Cheesecake was very potent and strong chocolate peanut butter smell. The chocolate crust was very thick, filling and delicious. The Tres Leches comes in vanilla and chocolate. I got the vanilla, the texture was good but it could have been a tad bit more moist.

Clearly by the photos there cake presentation is amazing and they provide individual wrapped utensils and boxes for each slice of cake. Staff is really friendly and nice. Next time if I’m in the mood for cake I’d get it to go! The dining area was empty and not very clean.

PS: they used to offer 1/2 off dipped fruit after 8pm but stopped because of covid. It was a good deal I hope they bring it back! I miss my midnight chocolate dipped...

Catherine, Hannah, natalie, are the best! Our new favorite dessert place in Houston! Soo many options to choose from! The cakes very really good and they had soo many options in ice creams! They also have a coffee section as well. Street parking available but the street can get packed. The prices are on the higher side.
