Firebirds Wood Fired Grill — Restaurant in Huntersville

We made a reservation for a specific time this year for firebirds (since last year we had a strange experience with the call-in 2-hour-wait system), and while they didn't have a table ready for us by our 7pm reservation time they weren't too far off (we were seated around 7:20.) Last year firebirds received a solid 5 star review from me. Their food is still (in general) phenomenal and I would recommend this restaurant for an average week day visit.

Unfortunately we made the trip (from about 30 mins up north) for veteran's day as is our tradition. (I would go to this restaurant once a week if it weren't so far away, their portabella sandwich is phenomenal!) You could tell they were rushing the kitchen (to get people fed/clear tables) and things weren't cooked properly this year. This is the very first time I have EVER had this experience with firebirds, and I sincerely hope it is the only time, as I am a die hard firebirds fan. If the experience we had this evening was the norm, I would only pick up food to go and not dine-in. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant based on our experience tonight, if I hadn't been there so many other times.

My husband's loaded baked potato was basically raw. He left it almost entirely uneated (after trying a couple of bites and realizing.) My son's side of broccoli (which we specifically asked for very very soft since he is an infant new to food) was very crunchy. I sent the broccoli back to be cooked more since my son just couldn't eat it. The waitress did offer us a new baked potato after our meal was complete (when we let her know it wasn't cooked) because they do have very good customer service. But we could tell they were hurried and we didn't need a leftover baked potato. We just wanted to let them know, so hopefully it wouldn't happen to someone else's potato. It was just a disappointment that we have never experienced with firebirds.

Often a manager will make his way to each table and ask how the food was/how your experience was this evening. Tonight no manager came to our table. I saw him, and I could tell that he was running around like crazy to accommodate veteran's day. I know he was very busy. When we did leave, I acknowledged him with a "Thank you!" and recieved a half hearted "Uh-huh goodnight." Another strange experience for firebirds. Usually the managers are extremely friendly.

My hopeful thought is that this was an off night for an otherwise amazing restaurant. I am really hoping to have a different experience in the near future, as I know we are going with friends...

Went to celebrate two birthdays. It’s a week night and most people have to work. Reservation was made for 9:00 p.m. If you close at 10:00 p.m. why accept a 9:00 p.m. and give piss poor service?

First of all, we were not offered any bread. When asked about it, the dark skinned woman with braids stated “kitchen is shut down.” I advised her that we had been there since 9:00 p.m. and was never offered any bread, she walked away and didn’t respond.

Someone else in our party asked for another drink. The rude, unprofessional waitress ( dark skinned with braids, said “Y’all should have made a reservation for 8:00 p.m.” How freaking rude, ignorant and unprofessional to tell someone when to make a reservation? When you’re open and still taking customers, the customers should receive impeccable service until they exit the door to leave.

Then, I told the 2nd server (light skinned with high bun and huge behind) that soda wasn’t good, she failed to care or ask if I wanted to replace drink with something else. It took someone else in our dinner party mentioning that their soda was also nasty, for her to say “may need to check machine to see if it’s out!” Yet, never came back to update us or change drinks. She was very nasty.

Both servers were both rude and impatient. We were rushed. The food was horrible. I had the pasta and asked for mild sauce, it was still extremely spicy. Received very little salad and when I asked if that was all , the rude light skinned server responded nonchalantly that I ordered a side salad, as if I haven’t dined here plenty times and know what the portion sizes should look like.

Unfortunately, I have to describe them because neither introduced themselves and provided a name.

I will not be back. The service was lackluster, the servers were lazy and don’t seem to like their jobs.

The food is disgusting and it’s just not like...

Loud, slow, friendly, but good food.

Loud patrons. Asked if there was anywhere quiet to sit. The hostess did the best she could but the entire restaurant would benefit from sound absorption devices.

Server was nice but slow. Watched him backtrack and travel in many directions instead of seeming to have a sense of strategic efficiency.

Ordered a large salad as a starter. Slow to receive salad (~ 15+ min). Received incorrectly made and waited for it to be made again correctly. A salad.

Approx 20 min after seating & ordering, & after asking about it 3 times after long absences by server, we received the bread. Already had the salad. Server blamed the Take Out people for getting all of the bread. Does Firebirds have a small oven or not enough anticipation by employees that in-house customers still would like bread?

Clattering & slamming of dishes & spatulas in kitchen throughout the evening by tall cook with long hair. Angry chef? Or unaware of how sound travels.

Slow service continued. I began feeling poorly and requested the entree to go, explaining that I wasn’t feeling well. Still had to wait on entree to finish being prepared and boxed. The bill could’ve been prepared during this lull. It wasn’t. Boxed entree was delivered, but he didn’t bring the check. Watched our server walk to multiple places, then he returned to stop by the adjacent table and check them out, then he walked away without dropping by our check. After a bit longer he brought ours. Definitely it helps that he was nice, but please consider time management and (again) strategic management to reduce the extra steps he takes and the long waits.

The entree (salmon & potatoes) were good. The carrots a bit tough. The blt salad was good. The bread also was good. The water was good as well. No weird flavor or smell.
