Hickory Tavern — Restaurant in Huntersville

Long review posting ahead - short story; the service is horrible, the manager is incompetent, and the long wait time on drinks and food led to our walk out and we won’t be back. Long story - last night we walked out of Hickory Tavern on Sam Furr, and I have never walked out before receiving my food or ever before. Completely out of my comfort zone, but walking out last night was necessary. We arrived right around 5:30 to a pretty empty restaurant, I’d say 5-6 tables sat max. There were plenty of servers standing around, so short staffed issues is not to blame here. It took over 5 minutes for us to be greeted on the back porch, 10 minutes (or more) for my husbands beer to arrive. We have two young kids, so ordering fast, especially for them, is a must! We finally ordered and then waited and waited… during this time the incompetent manager I mentioned above, two servers, and I assume the kitchen manager scrambled to figure out how to place a large 16 person party of the back deck. Now, if the manager had any know how she would have kindly asked us if we’d be willing to move to a smaller table, as they messed up and didn’t properly plan for the party. As I mentioned above, we continued to wait for about 30+ minutes until I finally called it. We left without ever receiving our food. My husband went to find the manager to give her the courtesy of telling her we’re leaving and why, but that he’d still like to pay for his beers. The manager couldn’t be found, but the excuses they gave him of “well this big party hit us”, is BS! We order well before the large party even arrived. Again incompetent and no apology or sign of remorse at all. Sad part is, the food is pretty decent as we’ve been there before and had a wonderful time at the bar. A group of us went there yesterday to watch some basketball midday & sat in the bar area. At the time several of us got there, the place was pretty dead. The service started out horrible & unfortunately got worse as the day went on. Our waitress took over 10 min to greet the table, & by greet I mean she didn’t say “hello, sorry for the wait, etc.” she started out by telling us how sick & exhausted she already was, asked us what we wanted & peaced out quickly. After the first round of drinks & food were ordered, refills or reordering was nonexistent. We would try to get her attention when we did see her & she would refuse to make eye contact & quickly walk pass with her head down. People that added to our party waited for our server for well over 20 min to get their first drink ordered & others who finally reordered watched their drinks sit & water down in well of the bar for even longer. The only reason I’m even given this place two stars is because the food was good & after waiting so long for my first drink then waiting another 15+ after that one was done to find our waitress, I went to the bar to get a drink with cash; the bartender was quick & friendly & got me my drink so fast my friends barely knew I left the table. We never saw anyone we thought to be the manager either bc several of the guys there wanted to speak with them but the only time we had someone drop off food for our table who I thought could be the manager (bc she was in a stripped button down, not bc she introduced herself) she dropped off the food & split, no “do you need anything else or how is everything?” We will watching basketball from now on down the street at Duckworths...

Visited here on Saturday 5/4 around 4pm. We had a large party booked in. This was checked numerous times over the last week and was never a problem with anyone we spoke to. When we all arrived on Saturday the manger was rude and obnoxious from the get go. Then she told us they had double booked 3 large parties in at the same time. The manger asked for a head count and we said approx 47. She walked away, and even went out on the patio for a smoke, while we were all still standing waiting. She then spoke to another lady from our party (myself) and said ‘she told me 20 not 40!’ I told her I was standing right there and she was told around 47. Eventually got seated, took over 1 hour for drinks, then apparently the system went down. But yet we walked up to the bar and ordered drinks with no issue. Best about it is 1.5 hours later they were still bringing drinks that was ordered when we first arrived. The waiting staff was great but the manger did absolutely nothing to help them at all. She claimed they were new staff. If that is the case help them!! Went out smoking numerous times. Eventually got food BUT 2 people in the party didn’t get their food at all. Most orders were wrong but we just took what came as we had waited long enough. Best ending to this story is; we watched for the other 2 large party’s to arrive and believe it or not they never came.
