Fuji Fams, as I like to call it is one of those local joints that needs to start garnering regional acclaim. I wasn’t alive when they made the move to Huntington and only started going here about 9 years ago.
Teri Beef and Charsiu Burrito with Avo, Fried rice and fried wontons and pineapple . Sometimes I’ll even throw in some spam if I feel like it.
Double Avocado teriyaki burger with spam (swap bacon out) is another one I liked to order when I was drunk.
It all started one drunk night I stumbled in here and fell in love. When you eat a teriyaki bowl you get to this certain point where there is a proper mixture of sauce, rice and meat that you can really shovel it away. I’d say this comes about ½ or 2/3 the way thru because the meat is always at the top, well the beauty of the burrito is you hit this magic moment right away. Your burrito bites are: meat, mixed meat & rice, rice, repeat. The rice is moist, the sauce is thick enough to coat, but thin enough to penetrate. The beef is especially tender. It’s off because most places sell way more chicken then beef, but not here. The pork takes on even more smokiness and crispy meatness. The tortilla could be better, but won’t fall apart on you. It’s filling, so beware.
The burgers are what they are actually famous for, but I find their buns to be weak to the textures and weight of a large burger, which is why I no longer get the fried egg on it. Fresh ingredients, old school construction and classic flavors. They offer bacon, but have found that due to the Hawaiian background it’s best to get spam substitute which pairs even better with the teriyaki glaze. I’ve found a single teriyaki bacon burger goes really well with the grilled pineapple, but not so much with the avo. The onion rings are so crispy they kind of destroy the burger if you put on it, over seasoned usually.
Sandwiches are great on the Aremenian bread which is totally unique to the area. The sesame dressing is great on their salads and you have to get the onion rings, super old school. The potato salad is more traditional side dish for the island flair, but the wontons are what makes me happy. I eat and order them like French fries and even get them in my burritos for a nice crispy pocket of warm cheese. I prefer the crab because the beef is overpowering in a beef dish. Love the spinach salads as they really emphasize it, thought I prefer the sesame dressing and sans capers.
Beef Teriyaki fries have taken popularity with the carne asada craze in the 90’s, but I get it without the lettuce and with hot sauce. Not as spectacular as it sounds. Probably because the fries are hit or miss and it’s not a polished menu item. Like Taco rice in Okinawa, a bit of a monstrosity.
It’s a small family run and family friendly join where you can feel the love. Service is good and they usually accommodate the crazy requests I have. They are big on sauce and I’ve even seen people just get a large order of rice and their famous fuji teriyaki sauce for dinner. Or maybe they were vegetarians. They have plenty of sriracha which pairs well with their teriyaki sauce.
Now that I look back on all the history me and this place have I’ll always hold it near and dear, though I have been frequenting their 2nd location in FV. Cheap, filling, not healthy food, but...
Read moreWe were visiting from out of town and came when they opened at 11:00. The food was alright, but the service was terrible. There were already two people in front of us that got their order fairly quick within several minutes. When it was our turn we waited over 20 minutes for 3 burgers! We were the only people in the store and while there were phone orders, they called after we ordered because we came when they opened. We kept waiting and finally came to the counter to ask because no one came in behind us. Then the girl at the counter tells us oh oops yeah your order has been sitting here! She didn’t even bother to tell us when we were the only ones sitting in the store. She didn’t even apologize or thank us for waiting so long. Very...
