My husband wanted to go here for his birthday on October 31 so I made reservations for a party of 5. They called the morning of to confirm our reservation which I thought was a nice touch.
When we arrived the restaurant was completely empty. I saw maybe one or two other parties but other than that the place was a ghost town. Maybe that should have been our first warning.
Once seated our waitress came to get our drink order and brought our some of their fresh bread. My husband asked for a sample of one of their beers on tap, which I assume he didn’t really like because he asked for a sample of a second beer. That one also didn’t fit his preferences so he ended up going for a coots light I think.
My husband ordered their crispy calamari for appetizer. He said it was just ok, I think he may have mentioned it tasted a bit rubbery. The fresh bread our waitress brought out was good though. Very warm and soft. That was one thing we enjoyed.
I’m not a big seafood fan so I ordered their cheeseburger. My son wanted to try their macaroni and cheese. I honestly forgot what my husband ordered but I think it was the clams or shrimp, then he got two sides - one was mac and cheese and then I think the other side choice was garlic mashed potatoes. My sister also ordered the cheeseburger and her husband got the fish and chips.
Honestly the only ones that enjoyed their food was my sister and I. Their cheeseburgers were good, but honestly it’s hard to mess that up. And they are a seafood restaurant so I’d expect their seafood to be good. My husband didn’t really enjoy his meal and my sisters husband said the fish and chips was mostly the fry batter and not really fish. We also had to send back the macaroni and cheese that my son had because it was undercooked and they barely put any cheese sauce on it. I’ve never seen macaroni and cheese that had no sauce or cheese. But King’s Fish House served it, not only twice to my son but my husband also got the same Mac and cheese with basically no cheese or sauce.
The service was only ok too. Our waitress didn’t really seem apologetic for my son receiving hard macaroni and cheese. But at least she came around to check on us every now and then.
I would never come back to this restaurant. Their prices are quite high for the quality and service being so low. I wouldn’t mind paying what we did if we actually enjoyed our meals and had a good experience. But our first visit will be our last. I do not recommend coming...
Read moreEverything I ate here was phenomenal. I definitely want to go back and try some more. The seafood platter for 1-2 is a perfect size for a date. Came with raw oysters, raw clams, mussels, shrimp cocktails and half a crab. We also ordered miso sea bass and omgee it was so delicious. That I would highly recommend ordering. It is definitely my favorite. I wish I was still hungry for dessert. I definitely wanted it but didn't have room for it.
Update more detail review 3/29/23 This spot right here is a goodie. And I have been missing out this whole time in good eats located in Bella Terra. I really need to stop hitting up the same spot and try different places. I had a date with the bf here and we both enjoyed every bite. The seafood platter that serves 1-3 people is a perfect player to share. I wouldn't just order this alone though because it's not enough. You definitely need to get and entree or two. We ordered a salad and a entree that definitely made me too full where I was not able to order any desserts. I was definitely sad about that too because the dessert menu and images looks delightful and delicious. Now I need to go back for that
Wherever I see a beets salad on the menu, you know damn well I'll be getting that. The plus side, it served with goat cheese. The best duo for my salad. I loved it. I even used the bread they gave us to scoop up the remainder of the goat cheese and salad bits. So so good. Perfect to the last bite. Can't leave anything behind. A very clean plate afterwards
The seafood platter came with oysters, clams, mussels, shrimp and half of a crab. Here's my order I like best Oysters Clams Crab (sad that the head was emptied out. Makes me wonder what they did with it and hoping it's not wasted. I would have ate it up) Shrimp peeled and non peeled Mussels
Last we ordered to share was the miso sea bass. They also had the crusted fried seabass but with the help of our waitress, I definitely made the right choice. The texture of the dish was most and fluffy. It fell apart so easily which taste buttery. Eating it with bok choy and mushrooms and rice just made the meal complete.
What a satisfying fulfilling meal and experience I had here. I would...
Read moreI ate in here the other night and really enjoyed the whole experience. I was in search for some oysters and this place caught my eye.
As you walk in, there is a big pile of raw oysters on ice. The waitress told me that they were delivered daily and that they are always fresh.
Now being from Michigan, I never got the real run down of oysters. Supposedly, oysters from the Atlantic and Pacific coasts have distinct differences. And that was how the menu was divided. I'd tried raw oysters from Boston, as well as oysters from America's northwest. I strongly preferred the oysters from the pacific in America's northwest. Therfore, I went with the pacific oysters.
The menu had four types of Pacific oysters from different locations. The server allowed me to mix and match. Therefore, I had the chance to try all 4 types of Pacific oysters. That alone made it worth the visit to this place. I was not too hungry, so I just went with 4. FYI, they sell them by the dozen, half dozen, or you can buy them separately, which is what I did.
When the oysters came, I displayed them accordingly to the chronological order of the menu. From left to right, I had the Sol Azul, Henderson Bay, Indigo, and Summertone oysters.
The Sol Azul oyster was probably my favorite, followed by the Indigo. The Henderson Bay was good but was kind of smaller and saltier than the others. I did not care for the Summerstone oyster. It left kind of a fishy aftertaste.
The oysters were served with horseradish, ketchup and lemons.
Overall, this was a much better experience than I anticipated. With the ability to mix and match the types of oysters really allows you to try...
