To preface : everyone should go try this restaurant and form their own opinion. I am in no way trying to hurt this business, just giving an honest review of my experience Also to note : I am here on vacation for 4 days. We researched places to eat, and I’m a huge BBQ fan. We are eating out for 3 dinners and had to be selective. This made my list because of current reviews and seems to be one of the only bbq places in town The review : the service was awkward. Not very friendly. May just be different mannerisms than where we are from (louisiana). The food : I ordered brisket, sausage, baked beans and fries. My wife got brisket, macaroni, and potato salad. Brisket was dry dry dry. 2/10 Beans were weird. I didn’t hate them. Just not what I wanted - baked beans + kidney beans + black eyed peas. This may be a Utah thing, but I just wasn’t a huge fan Sausage - very good. 7/10 Fries - crispy. Good. Fry sauce is good BBQ sauce - not very good not bad Macaroni - looked super cheesy. Not a ton of taste though Cornbread / muffins - terrible. Dry. Potato salad - best thing on both of our plates Total bill was a little over $50. Atmosphere - not very lively. Felt like no one wanted to be there. Place could be a fun touristy atmosphere if they tried. Sad to say - we wasted a dinner choice. BUT this caused us to try and save the night by driving down the road to this little food truck in a family dollar parking lot. Called God Bless PopUSAs - n - crepes. Got a crepe that was bigger than my head. Filled to the brim with fruit, cream cheese, and whip cream. $16. HUGE FAN. Super nice couple running the truck also.

You walk in, and it’s a really nice atmosphere. Looks really old-timey and rustic, with high ceiling and nice decoration. Lots of space between the tables. My dad and I split a Sampler Plate for 2. It came with 2 portions each of 4 different types of meat (2 small ribs, 4 slices of brisket, pulled pork, and 2 chicken breasts), 2 sides of your choice and corn bread. We honestly probably could have split the normal Sampler Plate (for 1) and still been quite satisfied, as we had leftovers. Do yourself a favor and GET THE FRIED CAULIFLOWER. Truly the best thing I ate there! Overall, it was pretty good. Would have liked the meats a little bit hotter on their arrival. Everything definitely needed a generous dip of the complimentary BBQ sauce. The brisket was definitely the standout for me, as most of the brisket was just soo tender, juicy, and fatty (though a few bites were unfortunately drier). The ribs were also great and tender. Skip the chicken - it was pretty dry and needed lots of added sauce to survive. The pulled pork was alright. As for sides, the Fried Cauliflower was REALLY GOOD. Super freshly fried, perfect texture with the crunchy batter, and great taste. The mac and cheese was decent after I added some of the Chipotle sauce. The corn bread was not great and pretty dry. The service was very fast and everyone was super nice. Overall a good experience, though there seems to be an inconsistency in their food items. I would recommend ordering the brisket, fried cauliflower and ribs, though the rest was skippable.

Our first experience with Loonny Boys BBQ was fantastic! Before you even walk in, you are overpowered with amazing smells! We showed up with about 35-40 people after our kids playing baseball and they got us all taken care of quickly and without an issue. They were clearly working hard, but still friendly and helpful. The meat is very tender and flavorful, even without the many choices of BBQ sauce! The bread is the pulled pork was on almost melted in your mouth! The hush puppies were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. It was all good, but the my almost favorite was the Nacho fries! I have never had anything like it. I wish I would have taken a pic before, but you will get the idea. And this is a HALF ORDER! They were helpful and came around to check on everything. Then at the end, you get a complimentary ice cream. The only bad thing is there is not one in Salt Lake.. We will be back! Thank you for the great experience- The Utah Crushers!

I rarely do reviews for restaurants but this one was just so disappointing. Stopped in after a day of hiking for a birthday treat. We have been to a fair amount of BBQ places with this type of setup. Walked in and the line was long but hat didn't bother us. While waiting I checked out the restroom which was in pretty sad shape with water on the floor and in need of some cleanup. 2 of the 4 of us ordered the 1 meat plate because it came with cornbread. We sat down at a dirty table because that is what was available unless we wanted the line of people standing behind our chairs. After asking a couple times, they did clean the table off and left the used napkins under the table. No paper towels or sauces were on the table. 2 of us ordered fountain drinks. Barq's tasted awful. Tried lemonade next, terrible as well. Worker acknowledged the problem and indicated it would get fixed at the end of the night. 3rd option, was ok. They delivered our meals one at a time. We noticed no cornbread. When we asked, she said they were out. I kind of jokingly said that it was the whole reason I got the plate, the server us unphased. Apparently we are supposed to get condiments as if we are to go customers. That area looked sketch. Other BBQ places we have been to have had 3 types BBQ sauce on the tables. There was 1 BBQ sauce pump that either didn't work or was empty. I lifted the lid and there was some in there but maybe not enough to make it work. When one of us asked for BBQ sauce she was given a to go container of something the server thought was bbq sauce but not sure. I started to hand it over to the person that didn't get any from our pumping attempts and the server moved it over to the person that asked for it and said it was hers? Ok, that was weird. 2 of us could not figure out what the garlic red mashed potatoes tasted like but definitely no garlic and some kind of weird flavor so we decided maybe we shouldn't eat the rest of it. The coleslaw was large shredded cabbage with some sauce of some kind. It did not taste bad but they should just call it cabbage. A couple of us thought the meat was good. One person's brisket ended up being a fair amount of fat which we thought odd. A few people that work here are working their tails off and the others look like they are going through the motions. Barely saw a glimmer of "customer service". Hopefully it was just a bad night but we will not be returning...

new review we came back here with family a second time and after finishing our meal I found out my 5yr old had not eaten her food because she found a small cockroach in her Mac n cheese. 🤢🤮. I was pregnant and for months just the thought of bbq or Mac n cheese would make me sick. So it’s been months but I’m finally getting around to editing my review. We haven’t been back and don’t plan on ever going back to Lonny Boy’s BBQ. My hubby wrote a review and they left a comment on it promising that their restaurant is clean and basically called us liars. So not only am I no longer impressed with their restaurant, I’m no longer impressed with their customer service. We told the manager that night what happened and even showed her the roach and she just said she’d have a talk with the cooks to make sure they were more careful. šŸ™Š

original review Free ice cream?! I mean, where else are you gonna find that!? This restaurant came highly rated from a friend and it did not disappoint! The food was yummmy. Love the frychos idea. The atmosphere is funny and relaxing. We had a great time here as a family, but there were also many couples here on dates of all ages. It’s a great restaurant for all. There was a large group in front of us, so there was a wait to order but benches to sit on while we waited. Surprisingly though when we ordered we barely had to wait at all for our food! Less than 5 minutes. And they brought things out as they were ready instead of all at once, so NONE of our food was served cold! They have fun drink options by the ordering station. For how busy they are, the restaurant is kept clean. Also, we stayed long after eating and none of the workers were rude or behaved impatient for us to leave. Definitely plan on returning, with...

The brisket here is fantastic—tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. I had the brisket sandwich, and my wife, who is gluten-free, had the brisket on its own. We both really enjoyed it. She also ordered the coleslaw and couldn’t stop raving about it. I went with the fries, which were solid, and appreciated that ranch was offered as a dipping option.

The atmosphere is exactly what you'd hope for in a BBQ joint: quirky decorations, casual seating, and that familiar, comforting vibe that makes you feel like you're in the right place for smoked meat.

Where things fell short was the service. We interacted with several different employees, and aside from one who seemed like a shift manager and had a grasp on customer service, the rest came off indifferent—like they were just going through the motions. That’s not usually a big deal to me, but one specific moment stood out:

At the register, their mini menu advertised beer, including a smoked option I was curious about. I asked whether it was available on draft or only in bottles, hoping to grab one to take back to the hotel. The two young employees behind the counter stared at me like I was speaking a foreign language. They clearly had no idea what "draft beer" meant, and when I explained it meant beer on tap, they were still lost. Another staff member was asked but seemed equally confused. It was a weird interaction and made me feel like I was the one in the wrong for asking about an item on their own menu.

Despite the awkward service experience, the food was absolutely worth it. I’d definitely come back next time I’m in the area—just hoping for a bit more attentiveness from the...
