My girlfriend and I ate here while passing through town. We stopped to use the laundromat and decided to eat next door at Mazatlan to kill some time. Boy, what a great decision that was!
We were immediately greeted and seated upon entering. A waiter promptly brought us chips, bean dip, a red, and a green salsa. The chips and assorted dips were very good, and we ate all of it.
My girlfriend ordered the Chili Verde burrito and said it was the best she's ever had! The presentation was good, and the bite I had was delicious.
I ordered the Carne Asada plate, and it was very good as well. They use a good amount of chicken bouillon in their Spanish rice, and it's the most flavorful I've had. They use a bean that's different from a pinto bean for their refried beans. The result is a very light brown bean that's similar in color to a navy bean. Their refried beans have a great flavor, too!
My carne asada was cooked to perfection. Slightly crisped on the ends, yet tender in the middle. It came with a sauce for dipping that was hot, but not too hot. Everything about my meal made me eager for another bite!
For dessert, we ordered coconut flan that's made in-house. The presentation was nice and looked appetizing. We both enjoyed it to the last bite.
Our table was visited by three different workers, making sure our meal was good, and our drinks were filled.
The owner himself even stopped to check that our meal was to our satisfaction. He was friendly and welcomed us to his establishment.
After talking with him, it turns out his nephew owns our favorite Mexican restaurant where we live 13 hours away!
If I ever return to Hurricane, I will definitely eat here again!!!
Update!: On our return trip, we stopped AGAIN. We ordered the same meal, and it was just as tasty as before! The waitress was both pleasant and attentive. This time, we ordered vanilla flan without the chocolate or strawberry syrup, and it was FANTASTIC!
We can not recommend this restaurant enough! đ
BTW, the reason for the 4 star review on the atmosphere is because the lack of privacy/intimacy. The tile floors do not absorb sound, so a full restaurant is likely noisy. On a plus note, there's no food ground into the carpet here, like some restaurants...
Read moreUpon walking in, we were not greeted, and than we were sat in the booth next to the opening door - my husband was flush the entire time waiting (he is a tan man, not fair skinned at all). Upon being sat, we waited for about 8/12 minutes before someone realized that we hadnât been brought menus.
No the store wasnât busy with in person customers, there were 2 or 3 other families enjoying food..
We were hopeful as the server once she came over was very nice - I thought we were in the clear when she repeated our orders to us including everything we said. Which wasnât a ton - only two no onion accommodations out of 4 plates.
I ordered 3 carnitas tacos with no onion. Came with onion and for almost $4 tacos, it definitely feels like they added the onion topping so I couldnât tell the meat was very small.
My husband ordered a Don Rafa plate - all the shrimp was over done, all the seafood was over done and so rubberband like, none of the shrimp had been cleared of the poop string, and for a $30 plate - absolutely do not ever recommend any seafood from here. No chips or tortillas served to eat with the ceviche that came in this meal either.
Kids meals were great!
I know they are supposed to be well known for their seafood, but this was the worst weâve ever had, and we are big foodies.
We did let the waitress know that the Don Rafa plate was very bad - they dos take it off our bill, and notify the owner who was taking it to the chefs and thanked us for...
Read moreUpon arriving to the restaurant I was a little confused, as I was not certain as to whether I was supposed to seat my self or not as no host/hostess was present and there was no sign present to seat yourself or not. After waiting I was taken to a booth where I was seated and the hostess left, at this point I was not notified of whom my waitress was. I waited for 20 minutes before they brought out the complimentary chips and salsa (which the flavors of the salsa are amazing both spicy and non-spicy.) Then another 25 minutes passed and my order was finally taken. At this point I was thoroughly annoyed, and when my food finally made it out to me it lacked two important things; Presentation and it also lacked the mussels and squid that was supposed to be apart of the $30 Marisco Mars. This was a soft open, and it makes me greatly concerned for what the Grand opening will be like. I gave it two stars as they tried making up for it by giving me a free desert. From my overall takeaway on this is I hope they are able to find away to make sure the full meal is present and to take better care of their patrons instead of making them wait 45 minutes for services. The flavors of the food are decent, one thing about the salsa that I adored is that it has a smokey quality to it that brings out the sweetness of the tomatoes and cilantro that I did adore. The sweet sauce they use did compliment the oysters and shrimp that...
