As I have grown older, I have come to appreciate the hard work of everyday folks, taking pride in what they do, and the crew at O'Brady's did not disappoint. I have written some comical yet truthful reviews, but this review was written with sincerity and a heavy dose of nostalgia. As a military brat and now veteran, I loved it when I was visiting my grandparents in good-ole Amish country in Pennsylvania, and we would go out to eat at one of the many diners near their home. The food was so good. It looked delicious, smelled delicious, and tasted delicious- like they really knew how to cook, plate, and present your meal, which, when you put it all together, created an extremely pleasant dining experience. That is the substance or the "stuff" that makes up O'Brady's Family Restaurant. From the moment we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted, not with some lame acknowledgment but as if we were welcomed and they were ready and willing to give us their best effort. It didn't come across as their duty but as their privilege to serve us. Nowadays, it is about attitude and being courteous, respectful, and considerate. Lou, who was our waitress, epitomized this attitude and ethic, she clearly understands the industry. She worked as a true professional from the moment she took responsibility for our table. She even took time to pray with us as we gave God thanks for His goodness and grace to us despite what we really deserve. Even though we were there at the heart of lunchtime, the restaurant was busy, but we didn't feel crowded. The environment was clean, and all the system parts worked like a well-oiled machine (without squeaks or groans). Even the restrooms (although small) were clean. As memorable as Lou and the restrooms were to our experience, it was the food that would satisfy our needs and the reason why we walked through the doors. Objectively speaking, I believe that most would accurately state that the portions exceeded their expectations. Usually, restaurants are more concerned with their profit margins and skimp on the food while pillaging our pockets, but again, O'Brady's is honest in its effort to earn our patronage by ensuring first-time diners become routine customers. We couldn't help but eat with our eyes as we admired the size of the plates, the size of the chicken fried steak, the French toast, the biscuits smothered in gravy, and the eggs cooked perfectly; our order came to the table as we ordered and expected it- hot, looking and smelling delicious. My meal had me at first bite. I was transported back to when I was a kid, eating delicious food with my grandparents and enjoying one of life's many good moments. Food and fellowship create strong memories, and even if you don't have any of your own, start with those you call friends or cherish as family and visit O'Brady's Family Restaurant and make a memory or relive one of your own. Thanks for the experience, thanks for the memories, and thanks to the crew behind the scenes who showed up to work to make some money to pay their bills and...
Read moreWe went to O'Brady's on 04/29 for dinner as we were passing through town.
As soon as the chicken noodle soup arrived, I felt like this place is something else. The soup was clearly made from scratch and the main flavor was chicken.
Then the patty melt came. The patties were cooked well done and they were soft and full of flavor. They serve condiments at the table, but I ate it without any sauces and it was amazing.
Other people had a cheeseburger for one and finger-steaks with side of mashed potatoes for other and they both thought their food was great.
I tried some of the dark gravy and when it arrived it looked like chocolate pudding. Though though it was "just" a simple gravy (fat, flour, salt, broth) it had a very deep flavor. This is a running thread through every thing we had here. All food is very simple. There are no fancy spices or exotic ingredients. Nothing you can't buy at any grocery store. Everything is pure skill, love, and care.
Even the french fries and tater tots, they were beautiful amber color and crispy. Meaning their fryer is kept clean even though it was late Saturday afternoon.
The skill of their cooks is perfectly matched with their servers. They are courteous and friendly but they are not annoying or chatty. Their staff is always busy and timing is everything.
You just come in and sit down. It didn't take long for someone to come over as soon as we got situated and comfortable, they and brought over water. Shortly after we ordered appetizers and soup arrived quickly and were hot. Shortly after we were done with appetizers the main course was brought out. The kids menu item came with a brownie for a desert and that was brought out when the main course was done. But, every time the food came over to the table it was fresh and as hot as if the grill is next to the table. The timing between the serving staff and cooking staff is absolutely air tight.
If this does deserve 5 stars, I honestly don't...
Read moreI have been coming here since I can literally remember. We went there every Sunday after church for breakfast. I was a kid and every Sunday when we pulled in there was a blue truck with two adorable huskies in the truck bed. I would always pet them for a while before & after having breakfast! They were a part of my childhood memories growing up and I always looked forward to seeing them because I was a loser and had no friends. The food here is excellent! There is a waitress who has worked there when I was a little kid and when we went there recently she was still working there. I asked her if she remembered me or my family but she didn't, it was kind of a bummer... but if you're ever in Idaho Falls this is the only breakfast restaurant you need to go to. I don't even have the words to explain how yummy the food here is! The food and quality haven't changed in over 20 years, which is amazing! I would definitely recommend O'Brady's...
