Could have been so much better.
I don’t write reviews unless I feel it will be constructive for the business or helpful for the customers. This review I feel might be more for the business than for potential customers.
I will try to be as honest and fair as I possibly can based on my own opinion.
The first negative mark for this restaurant for me is with their entry and layout. For a first-time customer it can be somewhat embarrassing to open up the side door on the front of the building only to be told by a server that it’s the wrong door and to find you are actually looking Into the dining room. You might consider a change in sign location or something to provide more precise direction for the first time customer. I suppose if you’re going for a secret exclusive club feel then you’re ok.
The first positive mark and really a very big positive mark in general and throughout my experience was the ambiance, feel and decor of the restaurant, it was very very pleasant and relaxing. It put out a strong “Fine Dining” vibe which was very nice for Idaho Falls but has lent to some confusion on my part that I’ll address further in detail later in the review.
Another positive mark was the service. EVERYONE we came into contact with was very friendly and helpful. Our glasses remained full of chosen beverages even though it was decently busy and our discarded dishes were cleared promptly.
I’m afraid that my largest negative marks come down to the most important part of a restaurant. The food. Where your servers and decorators did their job in establishing The Copper Rill as a fine dining experience the food dragged it down with only a few exceptions.
Now. The food was not inedible, it wasn’t burnt or raw. It was...Texas Roadhouse. I walked into a place where everything told me I was going to be eating very good, fresh food with an artistic taste and touch and I was severely let down. I feel like the ambiance of the restaurant is not in line with the actual quality of the food.
I ate with three other people and I sampled their meals in addition to my own.
We had: The Fillet Migńon, Halibut, Pork Ribeye, Duck Breast.
In every instance the flavors were so so disappointing. I could tell that the cook/chef had some skill in cooking but the seasoning was lacking and the flavors were bland. The sides were the most disappointing of all with vegetables either not steamed correctly or tasting frozen. I had a French onion soup that was far too sweet and the potato purée (Mashed potatoes) were lumpy and dull.
So here is my conclusion. The overall pricing for fine dining was amazing but it wasn’t REALLY fine dining, so it became expensive Texas Roadhouse/Outback Steakhouse fare where the portions were smaller than these popular chain restaurants.
My suggestion, be more creative and bold with your cooking. SALT your food. Use fresh ingredients find a more artistic way to plate and prepare...but ONLY if you want to be a fine dining restaurant that has food that matches the feel of the building and staff.
If your food remains the same I would recommend increasing portions, cutting waiting time and dropping pretense.
All in all I will not be going back. Not because it’s a bad place to eat but because it’s not what I went there for. If I want a “Decent Steak” I can get one cheaper elsewhere. If the level of flavor and creativity in the food matched the wonderful service and cozy feel of the building space. It would be a king but I’m afraid it falls just short of...
Read moreSo as you all know I’m the 18 wheeler 🚛 truck driver that gos to local place to eat as I was a chef 👨🍳 for 13+ years. Tonight I’m in Idaho falls and eating at the CopperRill it’s a beautiful place it’s a bit high end but has the family feel. My server Liv stated me with the Berry Mojito and recommended the stuffed mushrooms 🍄 with sausage pesto sauce. It’s got a rich stuffing the home made pesto is awesome to top them with just needed a few more minutes as I’m missing the natural juice from the mushrooms cooking down. Now I’m starting with there pear 🍐 and cashews salad with a honey 🍯 balsamic dressing. This was absolutely Delicious 🤤 the tender pear and honey balsamic is a hit. Now up to bat is a chicken 🐓 an tomato 🍅 soup 🍲. Was like when mom made you tomato soup and grilled cheese but what Chicken 🍗 . Now for the main entrée Haddock with mango 🥭 salsa and rice with mixed vegetables 🥕 was not expecting that I was a light and fluffy rice with pickled onions mangos with just a hint of cabbage. Now to end the night with a slice of German chocolate cake that takes me back to one special person in your life that will always be there my Mom that is the cake she always asked for on her birthday 🎉. As I’m on the road driving a 18 wheeler 🚛 now we don’t always get much time home but it’s the ability of something so simple like this cake to remind you of home.
I give a round of applause 👏 to this hard working owners who I had the ability to meet well I was there this in my book 📖 is a must stop and check out if your traveling through...
Read moreMy mother has recently been battling some health issues which brought us out to specialists in Idaho Falls. She was hoping to find a nice, unique, restaurant to visit to take her mind off of her worries…a place that was both refined, comforting, and all around special. What we found at the Copper Rill was a beautiful, classy place with the friendliest, most professional and sincere staff, dishes that were absolutely unique, top- notch, and perfectly done, perfectly seasoned, and 100% heavenly. The ambience is so classy, with soft lighting and quiet, steady conversation encouraged by our kind and very attentive server, Mike. He never missed a beat making sure our waters were filled, the dishes were removed after each course, and that our utensils were replaced with new ones before we began the next course…..even inquiring after the first few bites of each dish as to how we were enjoying ourselves. Even more importantly, we never felt rushed, and the quiet music in the background and clean, modern decor was just the thing to calm frazzled nerves. We were even approached by whom I believe to be the owner/manager, and asked if everything was up to our expectations. After all that my mother has been enduring with her health, the Copper Rill was every bit the unique and memorable experience we had been needing to help take our minds off the cares of our current reality. This restaurant is truly a wonder, and the epitome of attention to detail. I would 100% recommend you give it a try. You will not be...
