Our party of four ate at Snow Eagle for the first time, over the holiday weekend. Upon arriving, we were immediately told the kitchen was behind, but that we were welcome to be seated. We weren't in a hurry, and appreciated the honesty upfront. Our waiter looked overworked, but overall he did a good job, and we were never waiting for him to do his job.
The variety of food offerings was interesting (an Asian fusion of sorts, where you can get miso soup as a side with your burger), and there were several things on the menu I wanted to try. We ended up with an elk burger (special) and chicken cordon bleu. The chicken cordon bleu was great, and while I don't care much for a thick hockey puck of a burger, the elk burger had good flavor. I was worried it would be overpowered by spices, but the slightly gamey flavor was allowed to come through, which I appreciated. It was served on what appeared to be a house-made bun/roll.
The side salads were good, but on the small side for what I've grown to expect from a place like this.
The root beer is not your typical A&W out of a can. If you like more of a craft style root beer, you'll likely love it, but my wife and kid weren't huge fans. I thought it was great, but I enjoy that style of root beer.
I was excited to try their kolsch beer, but it was out, so I opted for a hefeweizen, which is often my favorite kind of beer. Theirs, though, I didn't care for. It's the second hef I've had in this region that had an excessively "clove" flavor that I really don't care for, likely from being brewed on the colder side. I was able to get through it, but can't say I enjoyed it. I know clove is an expected flavor in hefs, but I don't personally feel it should be overpowering.
The kitchen was indeed slow, but when our food finally did come out it was all very hot and fresh.
The location is perfect, nestled among several different hotels right across the street from the falls. The atmosphere is what I've grown to expect of a typical gastropub style eatery like this. We specifically noted that it would be an appropriate stop for a Yellowstone tourist, between the atmosphere, country music, and menu items like the elk burger (again, a special, not regular menu item).
Overall, would visit again and recommend...
Read moreI know they are trying but unfortunately this experience was so, so unpleasant I would rather have eaten fast food in my hotel room. We were seated and then left alone for over 20 minutes – no water, no introduction to our server, no eye contact, nothing. It was like we didn’t exist, even though there was a server right there taking care of the table next to us. The owner had to chase down a server twice to tell them to take care of us. Food took about 45 minutes which is fine if it’s good, but it was mediocre. We came to try the local trout but it was dry and the potatoes were bland and the veggies were 3 green beans, no kidding. No one asked us how it was or checked in. Once we were done eating it took almost 30 minutes to get the check. We had to chase down our server multiple times, were promised they would bring it, they never did. Kind of wanted dessert but were never offered dessert menu, probably for the best because who knows how it would take. Went to pay at the bar, were told that we couldn’t pay at the bar, had to chase server again (this was near closing and there were only a few people left so it’s not like they were busy!) Just an overall really unpleasant and stressful evening and we only had one evening in Idaho Falls so I regret spending it here.
They do have a sign saying they are short staffed and if you look back at reviews you can see that this has been an issue here for over a year. Unfortunately the service is so bad that I think it is irresponsible for them to seat as many people as they do and then not take care of them properly. At other restaurants with higher service standards I have seen them only seat as many people as they have servers to properly serve when they are short staffed. The owner was walking around apologizing to everyone and I appreciated that, but clearly this is a known issue and they still continue to seat more people then they can properly serve. I will say the location is nice and I like the brewery vibe of the place, but overall...
Read moreMy husband and I had our wedding reception there and it wasn't great. We met with the owners, Jerry and Charlotte, 2 times before the reception and told them what we wanted and if our budget of $2,000-$2,500 was do-able. They said yes, then 3 weeks before our reception, after all the invites have been mailed out, they came back and say actually, we now can't do it for less than $3,700 and that's not including an open bar because the managers said so. So that wasn't cool at all and it was so last minute they changed the price we couldn't find a new venue and get new invites out to everyone. The lack of communication between the owners and managers was not professional. The reception was from 6-9 and we were told we could start setting up at 5. We got there and there were still guests eating all over the place. We went upstairs, where there was supposed to be a long table with a tablecloth for gifts, and a coat rack for guests. There was no coat rack, no long table, and no tablecloth. The bridesmaids and I had to move all the tables and set up, while also having to clean the tables because they were dirty. By 5:30, people were still in the restaurant and we were told we couldn't ask them to leave because they were paying customers. So what are we? We had to bus 5 tables ourselves and then arrange all the tables how we wanted them and set up centerpieces. While stillill having to wipe them off ourselves. Next, we went to set up the music and there wasn't an adapter, when Charlotte specifically wrote on our notes that they would get an adapter. A bridesmaid asked her where it was and the response was oh the bride has to provide that. We ended up finding one in a bridesmaid's husband's car. It just wasn't a good communication and the follow through on what we were promised was sorely missed. Matt and I we're not happy with it and encourage others to seek other venues for...
