Went in 30 minutes before close, so I guess I can't blame them too much but there were three folks working at the time (one was mopping the floor, the other two were behind the counter) and yet my fiancé's chocolate malt was the consistency of water because the person preparing my order left it on the mixer the entire time they were putting together my Nutty sundae thing - the other person behind the counter could have easily taken it down before it got too soupy. My fiancé said it was akin to chocolate milk and for the prices at Clinton's for the size you get, you're expecting them to do better than you'd get from somewhere at Sonic, not worse. Having said that, my Nutty sundae thing came out really good but the time spent putting it together meant my fiancés malt was a complete dud and while I realize they were preparing to close up in the next half-hour, the other person behind the counter should have been paying enough attention to help out and pull the malt down from the mixer. We live in Lee's Summit, so we took our order to go and my fiancé didn't notice until we were already on the road. I had considered going to the frozen yogurt place on the Square instead but my fiancé pointed out that we don't go to Independence Square very often and I've only had Clinton's the one time - this was not the second visit experience I expected and I'm not sure there will be a third since I'd rather go somewhere we'll both get what...
Read moreClinton's has been on the Independence Square my entire life & had always been so much fun to go to. However, yesterday we were celebrating my Aunt Marsha's 70th birthday and the help was extremely rude & disrespectful. She had family members & friends from all over..Dallas, TX, Springfield, MO, Columbia, MO, St. Joseph, MO and some more that I cannot remember. I hadn't been to Clinton's since I was a kid & now returning at the age of 46 for my Aunt's 70th, when it was only 1 of 2 things she wanted to do for her birthday, the staff was an embarrassment to this historic establishment. Clinton's has a rich history of our grandparents taking us for a soda & cream back in the day; our parents went on dates & shared a root beer float or a chocolate malt; where as an adult we can go back & recollect those memories...like my Aunt Marsha wanted to do for her 70th. Luckily, despite the terribly RUDE girls that were working on 10/28/2017, we still had a great time & made...
Read moreWe came here after a tour of independence. We had learned that President Harry Truman worked here when he was 14 years old. How fun! A few families from our tour went as well. The person working did not greet us as we came in nor did she make us feel welcomed. We browsed the shelves of nostalgic candy and bottles of fancy soda pop while she waited on a previous customer. I placed my order for two ice cream cones. I didn't even notice they had phosphates on the menu. Missed opportunity. Orders were slowly filled and not even a smile or a friendly expression from the person working. We plan to come back to independence as it's not far from our home, but we will likely skip this place. The ice cream was good according to my children who ate it. Portions were what you would hope for for an almost $4 ice cream cone. I hope it was just an off day for the person working, but the ice cream wasn't the only thing...
