On our drive from Alabama to Chicago, we decided to stop for food near I-65 in Edinburgh, Indiana, and came across MAX & ERMA’S, a restaurant, bar, and gathering place. Let me just say—it turned out to be one of the best American and mixed cuisine spots I’ve ever been to.
The menu is fantastic—burgers, pulled pork, fish and chips, sandwiches, and plenty of hearty classics, plus an impressive drink list with beers, whiskeys, and cocktails. The desserts are also a highlight, making it a great place whether you want a full meal or just drinks and a sweet treat.
I personally tried the house burger with fries, the famous “Garbage Burger” (which gets its name because it has everything on it—but don’t be fooled, it’s absolutely delicious), a pulled pork sandwich, and fish & chips. Every dish was flavorful, juicy, and filling—exactly what you’d hope for in a comfort food spot like this.
The atmosphere is cozy, warm, and very welcoming. The decor is clean, classic, and gives off that perfect “sit back and relax” vibe. Whether you’re dining solo, with friends, or family, it feels like the kind of place where anyone can enjoy themselves.
The service was also excellent—the staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed happy to have us there.
What makes this place extra special is that it wasn’t just a one-time stop. We first ate here a week ago on the way to Chicago, and it was so good that we made sure to stop again on the way back to Alabama. That alone should tell you how worth it this place is.
If you’re ever near Edinburgh, Indiana, I highly recommend MAX & ERMA’S. Whether you want burgers, sandwiches, fish, or drinks, you won’t be disappointed. This place is a gem, and I know we’ll be stopping here again on...
Read moreThis was the absolute worst experience that I have had at any restaurant in several years. We were sat at our table without silverware. The food was horrible. My husband and I both ordered the Laredo steak. I ordered mine medium rare with steamed broccoli and baked potato. My steak was barely even browned, it was cold in the center. It was very bland and had no flavor. The steamed broccoli was barely even warm and again had no flavor. Baked potato was ordered with butter and sour cream. It was drowned in sour cream and not even a tsp of butter. We had to ask a server for salt and pepper to be brought to the table . I ate about 6 bites of my meal. My husbands steak was cooked to order but very bland also. Broccoli was barely warm, and baked potato was drowned in sour cream. We ordered dessert to go. I ordered the banana cream pie, the whip cream was horrible and tasted like paint, the crust was so hard I had to chip away at it with a knife and fork. The chocolate cake my husband ordered was surprisingly good . When I told the server about our meals she didn't offer to make it right or to get a manager. We paid $56.00 for food I wouldn't feed my dog. The menu has been reduced to just a few things in each category. My husband and I will never return to this...
Read moreI'll get right to the point, their food had no flavor. Ordered a tortilla burger, wife had a mushroom and swiss burger. Each of us, then commented to the other on how bland the burgers tasted. It was very strange, I'm not saying thay tasted bad, they didn't taste like anything. Had a side of tater tots, they tasted just like tater tots -- in fact they were the most flavorful thing on the plate. service was good, our waitress asked if there's anything she could do to make things right... I didn't have much of an answer for that. We had been shopping for a while, so we were hungry. That is to say, we did eat everything. And it was a fair amount of food, it just had no flavor. At one point I witnessed my wife salting her food pantry pretty heavily. We've been together for decades and I have NEVER seen her do this. if I can give half stars, I would give them a 2.5 rating. when we finished and got into our car, we looked at each other and I said, "Did your food have any flavor at all?" She said no, everything was very bland. I've never had this happen before, and I'm still pretty puzzled by it. I am not upset about the experience at all, but I am left with zero desire to ever return. I'm kind of curious if this is the case for all diners. I have to give them a...
