EDIT 7.15.2021:
I have to change my review to 1-star because their online ordering is frankly unacceptable. There are a number of issues that have been going on for some time and it appears they will not fix them unless there is some incentive to do so. I mentioned some of these issues in my previous edit, but it has gotten worse: There is no limit to the amount of online orders they will accept. For example, if there are 100 online orders for 11:30am, they will accept them all and tell you that your order will be ready at 11:30am. They also do not take into account carryout orders, so it is possible (and likely during busy times) that the time they tell you that your order will be ready will vary by an hour or more. If you order online for ASAP pickup, it will tell you that the average time is 10 minutes for your order to be ready. This is not accurate because of the issue described in #1. There were 8 people there waiting today, and I cancelled my order after I waited for 25 minutes past the ASAP time. You will receive an automated text telling you that your order is ready, even though it is not. Apparently this text is sent by corporate and not the restaurant itself, but it means that you can be sitting at home, drive to the restaurant, and wait another hour or more for your order to actually be ready.
This is not acceptable and appears to be driven by greed; when I cancelled my order, I had to go through the manager who tried to talk me out of doing so. Of course, because these issues are related to the capacity of the kitchen, dine-in will be affected as well.
(See edit regarding takeout; Original Review from April 2019) Very impressed considering we came over here soon after it opened. There was a little snafu when we were seated, and we weren't waited on for 10 minutes, but the hostess personally got our waitress and the manager came over and apologized and comp'd our dips.
Queso with chorizo was nothing special, but good. The tacos were excellent though. Hard to find a 'gourmet' hard shell taco, but I was a fan of these. I prefer this over Bakersfield, but the tacos are hearty, so order less than you would at Bakersfield.
EDIT 3.11.2021:
I wanted to add an edit here to remove a star for takeout, pickup, or delivery orders just to let people know about a number of issues.
First, at least for the bowls, the amount you get varies wildly based on who's working; there is no standardization. See the two pictures with the weights, noting a 25% difference on consecutive day orders (that also means you can ignore the Calorie counts they provide since they're clearly not accurate).
Second, the online ordering system is complete chaos. It appears you can schedule your order at any time, which is not restricted based on how many other orders there are. Thus, you may have scheduled to pick your lunch order up at 11:45am, but a catering order came in around that time as well so you could be waiting until 12:15pm or later while they prepare the catering order. For the two bowls pictured, one was ready 5+ minutes before the pickup time and the other wasn't ready until 20 minutes after the pickup time.
Additionally, if you choose to be texted when your order is ready, you will always receive a text telling you that your order is ready 1-3 minutes after your scheduled time, regardless of whether it is ready (I received a text telling me my order was ready and still had to wait 15 minutes). The local store has no control over the texts.
In sum, the food is pretty good but you need to dine in for any consistency because the pickup/carryout is completely...
Read moreI brought my wife and our 10-year-old son to Indianapolis to watch the Pacers vs. Toronto Raptors game, because our son is a huge Raptors fan for some reason* (we live in Lexington, KY). The Raptors lost, but Condado Tacos pretty much swept the NBA finals in our book.
When we arrived, we immediately saw that the interior decor had cool vibes, and we heard circa-1970s reggae/dub music playing. So far, so good. Our server, Red, was extremely helpful and kind, and even had earrings of a kitten dangling from a tree limb–just barely hanging on–which was not only funny and cute, but also stood as a kind of existential philosophical statement on the human condition in general. Ok, so this place is pretty awesome so far. Now it’s time to order some tacos.
We were already splurging on this mini-vacation, so we ordered far more than the necessary number of tacos, in a variety of flavors and styles. This proved to be a wise impulse. Rather than dishing out a bunch of fancy superlatives to describe the tacos' profound scrumptiousness, I’ll just say this: My wife and I both thought that they were the probably best tacos we’d ever had, and our son opined that they were his second favorite tacos, after Taco Bell–but he was joking (which is his default setting), so I’m pretty sure that he actually agreed with his parents.
We are not “foodies” by any means, so if you are a foodie, I guess you should take this review with a grain of salt, or chili powder, or whatever. But we thought the whole experience was spectacular. Maybe the best part is that, on our way back to Kentucky, we lamented that there were no Condado Tacos in Lexington… until we utilized the internet to discover that there was, in fact, already a Condado Tacos in Lexington. We just didn’t know about it, I guess because we’re not really foodies. So I’m sure we’ll visit our local location sometime. Hopefully it’s as outstanding as this one was.
*PS: My view on our son being a huge Toronto Raptors fan who lives in Lexington, KY is that, when it comes to sporting events, there is rarely any logical reason to cheer for one color-coordinated team of "strangers exercising for points" over the other; therefore, he needs no “reason” at all to be a Raptors fan. Nor do I: we had so much fun on this little trip that I, too, am now a Toronto Raptors fan (although my son and I decided that we are cool with the...
Read moreI tried Condados Tacos on Mass Ave this evening for the 1st time. Let me just say they did not disappoint! We ordered 2 Bud boxes which consists of your choice of 2 taco suggestions, half-size Queso Blanco or guacamole & chips. My choice of Tacos were the Blue Dream taco & the Plain Jane with guac & chips. The other Bud box had The Baja Shrimp Taco & The Cali Green Taco with Queso Blanco & chips. Literally the best Tacos I've eaten in a restaurant. The flavors had a party in my mouth. The Plain Jane oddly enough was my favorite of my two. The Plain Jane has a Kewl ranch shell filled with roasted chicken, fajitas, lettuce, tomatoes, smoked cheddar & salsa Verde! Nothing Plain about it! The shell was still holding up nice & firm when it arrived. The perfect amount of ranch flavor, not over powering the other flavors. The toppings were fresh & bright. Very appealing to the eye and delicious to the taste. Next I had the Blue Dream taco, made with flour tortilla over a kewl ranch corn taco shell filled with tex mex ground beef, lettuce, tomato & Avocado ranch sauce. Again the flavor profile was everything. Perfect blend of flavors & fresh toppings. The side guacamole was just like I like it. Great flavor not bland and not too much lime. Just right! I must say I am thoroughly pleased. The other order had the Baja Shrimp made with Baja California Inspired sautéed Shrimp in a flour tortilla, with rice jicama slaw, Pico de Gallo & Mango basil Baja sauce. Succulent seasoned shrimp paired perfectly with the selected toppings. This one had a little spicy kick to it, not too spicy but just the right amount of heat. The second taco in this box was the Cali Green Taco made with Flour tortilla over a hard corn shell with ground beef, queso Blanco drizzle, lettuce, Pico de Gallo, smoked cheddar, cilantro-lime aoli, & chipotle honey. I didn't try this one but was told it was very delicious and flavorful. The queso with the house made chips was really good. Overall we'd rate this experience a definite 9. I would give it a 10 if I had the full dine in experience which I will do soon. If you haven't tried Condada Tacos yet, put it on your...
