My finance and I dined here on 4/28. We drove hours into town to experience Salt on Mass for my birthday so I was dressed fancy. We have reservations on Opentable for 8:30pm. At the time of booking reservation it was specified of which table we’d like and that we’re celebrating a special day (my birthday). Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were dryly greeted by the host at the front door, which she confirmed our reservation. She informed us that we would have to be seated at a high table. She never acknowledged the special occasion or even noticed that I was dressed in high heels and a dress. Naturally I didn’t expect to be seated at a high table at what I thought was a high end restaurant. After, informing her that it was my birthday and I wouldn’t feel comfortable sitting at a high table with a dress on and that we specifically selected a table during booking, she seemed very unconcerned. She proceeded to tell us the only other option was to be seated behind the host stand or all the way in the back by the restroom and kitchen. I felt very disappointed at this point because there were multiple tables available so I didn’t understand why we weren’t offered any of those table. We settled for the “near restroom” table. Our server, Hannah was great and provided amazing service, which she noticed my energy seemed very sad at this point, which my fiancé explained to her what we’ve just experienced. At that point she asked the owner to speak with us. We explained everything to the owner and he basically passed off the host’s behavior as “being a teenager” and “that’s just how they are”. I felt that was a huge disappointment and showed no accountability as the owner. It also confirmed nothing will be done about the hostess’s behavior. Finally, we woke up to our reservation being canceled at 5:13am this morning on OpenTable by the restaurant, in what seems to be a way to keep us from being able to review our experience on OpenTable. I am shocked and appalled by the restaurant’s behavior. Out of all the restaurants we’ve supported this has been the most disappointing experience. We will not support them again and do not recommend. There are so many restaurants with better food and service from the host & owner, and they actually appreciate their guests. I have attached a screenshot of the canceled reservation AFTER we actually dined in...
Read moreSalt on Mass continues to solidify its reputation as a cornerstone of fine dining in Indianapolis, offering a delightful mix of traditional staples and innovative new dishes. The atmosphere remains as inviting as ever, blending urban sophistication with a laid-back charm that makes it perfect for any occasion.
One of the things I appreciate most about Salt on Mass is how consistently excellent their staple dishes are. From the perfectly seasoned, tender steak to the fresh, vibrant seafood, these classics never disappoint. It’s clear that the kitchen holds a deep respect for traditional flavors while ensuring each dish is executed with precision and care.
Recently, I had the pleasure of exploring some of the new items on the menu, and they are every bit as impressive. The culinary team has done a stellar job of incorporating fresh ingredients and bold flavors while maintaining the essence of what makes Salt on Mass a dining favorite. Each dish feels thoughtfully crafted, with a harmonious balance of taste and texture.
The Sweet Heat Margirita remains my go-to drink. Its perfect blend of spice and sweetness is irresistible, especially when paired with seafood. The beauty of this cocktail is that it doesn’t require any second-guessing its vibrant flavors stand strong on their own, complementing the fish without overpowering it.
Salt on Mass also impresses with its well-curated menu, where every dish finds its ideal match among the drink offerings. This is further enhanced by the knowledgeable staff, who can guide you through the menu with ease. My waitress, in particular, was well-versed in the intricacies of each dish and drink, offering insightful pairing suggestions that elevated the dining experience.
In conclusion, Salt on Mass continues to deliver on all fronts exceptional food, a fantastic drink selection, and impeccable service. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, you’re sure to leave with a satisfied palate and plans to return.

Read moreAn elegant take on seafood fine dining. SALT brings in fresh catches daily, and you can absolutely taste the difference. I recommend their Kung pao shrimp appetizer. It's sweet with a hint of heat from the lime chili sauce, and the breading adds just a bit of crunch. We also had the salmon and the mahi mahi with parmesan risotto and roasted Brussel sprouts respectively. Both were delicious.
The staff is very knowledgeable of their product, they have creative daily specials, and their standard menu is small and well thought out with a well developed and thorough wine/cocktail menu. I really appreciated seeing how well they work together as a team; open and with quick communication, happy to help each other, and professional.
SALT's atmosphere is quiet, upscale, clean, and contemporary. They have a large bar, high-top seating, open booths, and plenty of tables. They also have a very lovely private dining room for those special occasions.
We visited SALT on the 19th while on vacation in Indianapolis. Overall our experience here was very good, despite them being short staffed. Unfortunately this caused in a long delay between courses and ultimately resulted in us not being able to try dessert. They did offer us an opportunity to have some to go, but we sadly didn't have the time to accept. Still, we would happily go back the next time we're in town. We sat next to the bar by the door to the patio, and the manager/bartender was on it all night. Our server was great, and we even had a visit from the chef.
If you're in the area, and you're looking for excellent seafood, I highly recommend paying...
