Buy bakery items with caution! The employees were quick to praise their products as being "great for your dog" and "totally healthy" made from "human grade ingredients". Let me remind you that there are many natural and processed foods that are " human grade" you should never give your dog ...or yourself in some cases. Your dogs do not need sugar, cane juice, honey, and worst of all, partially hydrogenated vegetable oils, aka trans fat. Sugars , no matter the form ( cane juice is still sugar, and honey is also primarily sugar), accelerate poor oral hygiene in dogs and humans alike. I don't know about you, but I don't love having to have my dog sedated for teeth cleaning more often (or paying for it). Partially hydrogenated vegetable oils are trans fats (think crisco). This form of fat is very cheap and is convenient for baking because it makes for a nice texture in the final product. While it is very easy for the body to store, it is extremely difficult for the body to get rid of. These fats are also known to increase risk of heart disease more than all other fats. That is why several states in trying to curb the obesity epidemic, have banned the use of these fats. Any vet will tell you that obesity is not good for your dog.
All that said, they do deserve credit for listing all ingredients and nutritional information for their baked items. Now I know what you are saying to yourself, this guy is just a freak that probably tries to make his dog a vegetarian or something. You wouldn't be more wrong. I came in here to get my dog something special. Junk food is fine once in a while and it was her birthday. But i do not want to give her ingredients that are frankly bad for her. The cheese sticks were about the only item in the bakery section I felt comfortable giving my dogs. The dogs loved the cheese sticks.
The store carries other great products like bully sticks, antler chews, toys, etc. I was able to find some great treats that were sourced and made in the USA. For this alone I recommend the shop. I do recommend avoiding their baked goods containing partially hydrogenated oils, which were in most of...
Read moreYou only get one chance to make a first impression. Went in on new years eve my partner and myself. We looked around a bit. There were 3 young ladies at the front of the store. The youngest a cashier was friendly and was behind the register. The other two women were behind the baking area. They never acknowledged or said a word to us. We shopped and took our purchases to the front of the store to pay. We asked the cashier a question about some items in the front. She didn't know the answer and proceeded to ask the two women behind the baker counter area...cashier said that we had a question..she wasn't sure of the answer...one of the women looked up and said..(I'm on the phone) so the cashier kinda just stood there unable to help us or answer the question..it was quite awkward and uncomfortable because..it was kinda rude to not acknowledge customers or take a second to answer questions when there were 3 workers in the store and two customers...I hate to think it was because we are african American. We just purchased our items and left. I love mass ave but small businesses need to do better...u basically dismissed a possible future regular customer that...
Read moreWhat an adorable place! This place is by far the most bougie canine bakery I've ever set foot it. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't love every second of it. There's more treats here than you'll see at most human bakeries and the prices are great. Staff was friendly and helpful (not to mention patient as I got slightly overwhelmed by which one of the crazy number of options my dog would like best). My pup's favorite was the doggy donuts.
In addition to the treats, there are dog collars, dog toys, dog magnets, dog party supplies...I think you get the idea. Best part by far was the dog employees they've got behind the counter. Such good pups!
One ting to note is there's street parking outside so be prepared to pay for parking. And no cat treats, so you'll have to go elsewhere for those. But I'll definitely be back when I'm around town again for more...
