Food: The food was very average, and with the heavy price point, I would even say disappointing. Though it’s a Japanese ramen bar, you can tell the food has a lot of Chinese influence. I got the Tonkotsu Shoyu and my friend got the Spicy Ramen. The broth did not have much flavor and was very oily. The spicy ramen was overpowered by chili oil. The popcorn chicken was very good actually; however, it resembles more of Taiwanese popcorn chicken. Normally Japanese restaurants serve chicken karage, which is still fried chicken bites but prepared differently. We also got the Omurice. The egg on top was cooked very well; however, the fried rice underneath was simply something anyone can make at home. Additionally, traditional omurice doesn’t come with peas, corn, mushroom, and ham. It resembled a fried rice prepared at home where you toss whatever you had as leftovers. Overall, there was a disconnect between the food and the culture it’s trying to convey. Service: The service was up to par with the size and atmosphere of the restaurant. I did notice miscommunication between workers, where multiple servers tried to take our orders and did not communicate with the other servers that we already ordered. It was odd to have different people serve our tables and likely suggests that tips are pooled. Atmosphere: This would be what you come here for! Very beautiful interior design and there’s a tree in the middle of the restaurant where you can write stuff on wooden blocks and proceed to hang the blocks on the branches of the tree. Very aesthetic. Overall, this place is a dining destination if you are looking for a great atmosphere. But taste is key: the lack of flavor along with the cultural disconnect refrains me from dining in again. Would much rather Yujo ramen on the north side of Indy. Of note, their black sugar boba milk tea is delicious and great for takeout!

I really enjoyed the chili garlic edamame and my spicy tonkatsu ramen. I ordered the spiciest and it had some flavor. It wasn’t hot like flaky pepper but more deep and heavy like chili powder. The flavor is pretty strong so if you’re more of a light ramen type of person I would not recommend getting it extra spicy. I usually like pan fried gyoza but I wasn’t particularly a fan of this one. I tried my friend’s miso ramen, but I wasn’t a fan and neither was she. The service here wasn’t terrible. I came around mid July so it was a few weeks after they had their grand opening. It took awhile for the waiter to come and take our order as my friend and I saw he wondering around multiple times to find our seat (since we were in the honeycomb seating area). They do have some great staff that are really nice and welcoming. We went around a less busier time, just before the lunch rush so we didn’t have to wait as long to get our food but it was still a decent wait (roughly 30 minutes). I look forward to trying new things on their menu. ——————————————————————- Update: September 2024 I grabbed dinner with my friend and the service has definitely improved! The servers were very attentive and refilled our waters when it was getting low and checked in on us from time to time. The food came out faster than I expected. The wait time was no more than 15 minutes after ordering. We had pork skewers, deep fried gyoza, ika geso kara-age (deep fried squid tentacles), and katsuobushi pork ramen. Everything turned out pretty good. I prefer the deep fried gyoza over the pan fried ones. The katsuobushi had a nice smokey flavor to it. I’m looking forward to coming here more often :)

We had an absolutely terrible experience at this location last night. Kyuramen has become the go-to ramen location for my girlfriend and I ever since we discovered it together. Usually, it's a great experience, but not last night. We entered around 8:40pm, after checking that they were open until 10pm. When we entered, however, all of the chairs were placed on the tables, and the staff had already begun mopping, leading us to believe that perhaps they had closed early for some reason. We were about to leave, when the hostess came and took us to a seat in the beehive. We immediately noticed that the air conditioner wasn't functioning, as it had not been the last time as well. It made the experience stuffy and uncomfortable, but we didn't mind it overly much. We placed our order, and the food came out super fast, which is always nice. The real problem though, was the mopping. The chemicals soon began to permeate the air, and we couldn't even enjoy the meal because of all the scrubbing and cleaning. The big high-velocity fans that they're using to circulate the air, caused the bleach and other chemicals to saturate the air quickly. On top of all this, at about 9:35pm, with plenty of time remaining, one of the workers interrupted our meal to ask us to go ahead and pay. We didn't summon her with the button or anything, they just couldn't wait to hustle us out of there. So, we paid, and quickly finished up. My girlfriend needed to use the restroom before leaving, and we had to slop our way through bleach and chemical-saturated water to get there. The bathrooms are also suffocatingly hot, so you begin to sweat profusely soon after entering. While in the bathroom, my girlfriend said the toilet was soaking wet with the chemical water, and the floor had standing water as well, so the chemical fumes were especially overwhelming during that time. On our way to the door, we slopped all the way out through standing water. Had she not been holding my arm, my girlfriend probably would have slipped and fell a couple of times. My girlfriend and I were both wearing nice shoes, but she was wearing open-toed shoes, so the bleach water soaked her feet. After leaving, we both suffered from burning eyes, and could feel the chemicals permeating our respiratory systems. All this to say, I can understand wanting to finish cleaning and get home early. But we both arrived and left before 10pm, the declared closing time, and the proper time for the cleaning to commence. I'm absolutely appalled by this entire experience. We had to suffer through a miserable experience, and we were there with plenty of time to spare. There's absolutely no reason we should have had to suffer through all of that. Suffice to say, we won't be back. There are far too many other ramen options to tolerate this nonsense from this location. Whoever is in charge needs to be fired, pronto. There's a reason it was absolutely dead on a Sunday night at 8:30pm. What a disappointment.

Edit: It makes me hate this place even more, getting some stiff and artificial canned response from the owner. I already wasn't going to return, but now I'll actively advise others to...

the only good thing was the look of the restaurant. taking on some wonderful architectural elements from Japan leaving me looking around and enjoying the look of the restaurant so it improved the atmosphere. but that’s not enough to save this restaurant nor my experience and expectations in the slightest. the service was awful. we were in the honeycomb booth and pressed receipt on the pager multiple times and it took far too long for them to bring it. asked for a to go box, not sure why considering the taste but i will get to that in a moment, and it took about 25 minutes to get that. finally, the taste of the food. to say i’m let down is an understatement. the chicken bun tasted stale, flat, and overall not in any way edible and for the real kicker- it appeared to be undercooke! i had to put it down after two bites. the ramen was mediocre at best. the slices of chashu were extremely underwhelming and lacked flavor. the miso ramen was on par with instant noodles if i’m being honest. and to top it all off, the next day i was sick alongside my partner the entire day and into the next from i’m assuming this restaurant and its poor handling of food- every employee were touching their phones and bringing food to the tables so i can only imagine what the kitchen was like out sight of customers in the restaurant. i was very excited to have such an amazing restaurant experience from what i’ve seen online but i was met with disappointment, low quality service and staff, and food on par with instant noodles that gave me food poisoning. i wish i could go back and see if my following visit would result in a different result, however, i will be continuing to go to Kizuki, jinya, or ramen rays as the food is wildly better (and allow me to add NEVER undercooked each time i’ve gone unlike these repulsive chicken buns at this establishment) and the service is actually reasonable and respectable. i refused to take photos as well due to the lack of presentation i expect from such an esteemed restaurant. one of the worst experiences i’ve had dining in indianapolis and my...

I don’t really like to write negative reviews but this was a horrible experience at Kyuramen. We went as a group myself, my wife, and 2 others. We were looking forward to this restaurant from the really good reviews and we were all excited to try their speciality being ‘ramen’. Once seated we were immediately rushed to order when we hadn’t seen the menu just yet. Once ready we decided to order: 3 ramens , 1 omurice and some side dishes with some drinks.

The food came to our table and we wanted to record the food and omurice egg being cut, however the server decided to cut it without asking if we were ready and then proceeded to say ‘I didn’t know if you wanted to record’ after giving us only 1 second before she cut it.

Moving on, we then tasted the omurice which had little to no flavour and the actual ramen dishes tasting like they were using ‘maruchan’ (pot noodles). Nobody came over to ask if our food was okay and 0 customer service overall. We then had to proceed pressing the buzzer for someone to finally arrive.

We later were rushed to leave even though they were not busy and we wanted to order dessert. So we ordered a matcha dessert which was pretty good, however the staff just kept mumbling together and staring at our group as if we were ‘wanted criminals’. They then decided to rush us with the cheque and then further expected a tip for little to no service and overall bad experience with the food.

For a business to have ramen in their name I expected a very good authentic experience instead we all had a rushed dining experience and the food sure was the same. After not giving a tip the entire team of staff members working were staring at us with angry looks, which made my wife uncomfortable we still hadn’t finished our desserts.

Overall bad experience would not recommend it’s much better to buy your own ramen than come here, it’s not ‘cheap’ food in the slightest our bill came well over $140 and that wasn’t even us feeling...
