Visiting Indianapolis for a few days with my family, we decided to visit Marabou Lakay. We always try to support our Island Restaurants wherever we go. Food and service was great on our first day. We liked the food so much, we decided to return on the second day to pick up dinner. We were very excited…….it turned into a disaster. Placed my order ( establishment was not to busy), I waited for over 30 minutes. Other people were coming in way after me, placing their orders and receiving their orders and leaving. When I questioned it, they said I had to wait on the white rice for one of my orders (this was not expressed to me when I placed my order). Right after this interaction, another customer came in and placed and order, and requested white rice. She was able to get her white rice, when I was just told I had to wait about 30 minutes for white rice. Again, I asked the person behind the counter about this…..he told me I just came in and placed my order. I told him that, I was there for over 30 minutes already. It was nothing but rudeness after that. I was already there and my family was in the car waiting for food, so we could go back to out hotel. It is sad when you want to support your Island people, but no matter how good your food is, great service should go hand in hand with it. We will definitely not be returning to Marabou Lakay on our future visit to Indianapolis. No matter how good your food taste, your terrible customer service experience will keep your customer base...

If you're looking for a true taste of Haiti, Marabou Caribbean Haitian Restaurant is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you step in, you're welcomed with warm hospitality that reflects the rich culture of the Caribbean. The atmosphere is cozy, and the decor brings a little piece of Haiti right to your table.
The menu is full of flavorful and traditional dishes, and you can taste the care that goes into each preparation. The griot (fried pork) is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, perfectly complemented by the tangy pikliz (spicy slaw). The diri ak pwa (rice and beans) is perfectly seasoned, and the banan peze (fried plantains) are crispy and delicious.
For dessert, don't miss the pâté chaud—a flaky, savory pastry that's a perfect end to your meal.
Whether you're a fan of Haitian cuisine or new to it, Marabou offers an authentic, flavorful experience that will leave you craving more. Highly recommended!

Read moreI'm not an expert on Haitian food, but everything I had was excellent. We ordered takeout, and noted that a few of the translations on the menu were slightly different from descriptions of dishes we found online.
The griot (somewhat similar to carnitas in flavor, though not shredded) and goat stew were probably my favorites. Rich, well-seasoned, and filling. The spice profile is warm rather than hot (think more nutmeg than cayenne), and dishes are all served with plantains and red beans and rice.
One thing to note: the stews we ordered (turkey, goat, and oxtail) were cooked with cuts that have a lot of bone and cartilage. This means you get all that delicious, sticky marrow in a thick, rich sauce BUT it also means you'll have a pile of bones on your plate once your through and be picking the meat off the bones. (Not a complaint! Just a warning to less adventurous eaters to set expectations).
Definitely a new favorite on the east...
