Date night. Warm, 1930's motif atmosphere. Came here for steak and they executed perfectly. Great filet, medium red to dark pink hot center, seared, moist, tender, nice flavor being in the top three of steaks I've ever eaten I think. Side of brussel sprouts and fried green tomatoes will not disappoint. $200 dinner with bottle of Ghost Pines cabarnet, salad & appetizer and decadent brownie dessert. Courteous, attentive staff & valet makes you feel special. Made for a memorable evening. 10/17/17: 1 yr later for anniversary. Perfectly prepared and experience did not disappoint. Added a second of prawns with drawn butter that were excellent. Bottle of Federalist Zinfandel. 10/17/2019: Ditto oncor. Excellent again. Appetizer was calamari. shared salad, 6 or 8 oz medium rare filet tenderloin was perfection, bottle of Federalist Zinfandel. 10/17/2022: 4:45 pm seating. good but not out of the park as on previous occasions. Details were not there, not terrible, just not 5 star. Filets werent as flavor-ful as before, seems like lesser quality filet - flavor-dull. Salads were ordered with dressing on the side but served wet and soggy, so sent back to remake, then fine. Didn't have our go to Federalist Zinfandel anymore so struggled a bit finding a replacement with Coppola Zin that wasn't on par. Chocolate brownie Dessert wasn't as good either again not bad, just lesser quality ice cream I think and generic tasting. Hate being consistently asked if we're finished with our plate. Just not a $120 per person value for us this time. Too bad. Anybody have any other suggestions? 10/17/2023: UPDATE... excellent dinner on point again. 8 oz Filet tenderloin, mashed red potatoes, brussel sprouts , fried Calamari appetizer, romaine salad, glass of Malbec, slice of cheesecake to share, attentive service. Only thing that wasn't good were the brussel sprouts, just keep them simple, some butter or olive oil, salt and pepper pan fried is all that's needed, not drenched in onions and syrup. Everything else...
Read moreHarry and Izzy’s is my favorite restaurant. We celebrate every occasion there and it is our go to restaurant when in Indianapolis. Due to not living in Indianapolis we probably dine there 6-8 times a year. My in laws were in town so I wanted to surprise them with a great meal. I hyped up the experience and the food because every single visit has been amazing. Our server was one of the worst servers I’ve ever experienced. We were never informed of a daily special or what the house item was. We knew what we wanted in advance but she kept telling us she would be back instead of taking our order. Our drinks stayed needing refilled and at one point she took my glass away when the food came and I was halfway through my meal before I saw her again and had to ask for my drink back. I am weird about my food touching and informed her of that and asked for my mashed potatoes to be on a second plate. She said they would be and they were not. Not only were they not on different plates she didn’t remember that request when giving me my food. I could’ve asked for new mashed potatoes but we had a movie to catch and didn’t have time to wait. My medium steak came out well done but again, no time to wait for a redo. The table was a square that converted to a round table and the wings were much lower than the main table leading to things falling over or being uneven. Cutting a steak on an uneven table isn’t an awesome experience. Of the 100+ times I’ve dined here over the years I’ve never noticed a 20% included gratuity. I tip more here because I’m sure the server has to shared tips with the other staff but with the service I received I wasn’t happy being forced to tip 20%. I could understand if we had 6, 7, 8+ people but for 4 adults and a child? No thanks. On top of the weird experience, misplated and overcooked food, attitude and poor service from the server this was my in laws first time and I was really hoping to make this our Christmas tradition restaurant. Severely...
Read moreWe started out at the bar with Jack and Brock. I was greeted with a Happy Mother's Day weekend. Both were so professional and so accommodating. We ordered our drinks from their specialty drink menu. Happy to say we made some great choices! Brock shared one of the recipes with me because he heard me say I'd love to make the Jalisco Heat for this summer. That was nice of him. We moved to a table upstairs for our meal. We had a very nice table. Andrew was our server. He was very helpful with menu. We started with a side of fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. They were huge and wonderful. I ordered a filet with added lobster tail. The lobster was cooked to perfection and delicious. Greg ordered the filet with fries. We both ordered our steak medium. My steak was overdone but Andrew agreed it was and offered another steak to be prepared, no questions asked. It was much better but still okay. We were full from drinks and dinner so we skipped dessert. When we went to pay our tab, they had automatically adjusted our bill for the steak mishap. We really appreciated that. The only thing I could say that is somewhat negative is that they dont offer baked potatoes, only fries, mashed potatoes or green beans as complimentary sides for an entree. They do offer a good selection of sides though.I upcharged to the brussel sprouts. They offer bread with dinner but not lunch from what I gathered. So we asked. Andrew brought us the bread promptly. It just seemed a little dry. We would have liked herbed butter on the side to add ourselves instead of on top of bread as served. Those are just two small things of personal preferences that will not change our mind as to us coming back. We enjoyed our visit and will be back. They definitely...
