Italian Café — Restaurant in Irving

I would actually give 0 stars if I could. I am a woman of color and I went in and was advised I could sit anywhere and I chose a spot inside next to the wall. I was given a menu and it took awhile for someone to take my drink order (btw, no one ever came back to take my order). As I waited, the manager (I assume due to attire) walked past me to the Caucasian couple 2 tables over and greeted and introduced himself. The place was nearly empty. A Caucasian man then came in and sat behind me and was immediately serviced. He received bread ( I never got any) and was able to place his order. Meanwhile, no one came back to my table and waiters were literally standing on the ramp in front of me and blatantly ignoring me. Mind you I was never rude and I was alone. I was highly disappointed and decided to leave. This was my first time here.

Update…As you can clearly see the response to my personal experience at this establishment is met with hostility, attitude, and blatant lies. How about that for Customer Service and professionalism.

I clearly stated I was served drinks…I was never rude or disrespectful to ANYONE because I never spoke to anyone except for advising I was dining in and my drinks. Saying that I “Attacked” the wait staff is absurd and a blatant lie. I knew that would be the stereotypical narrative that would be used after reading my review. Classic. I was on a business call, which I’m not sure how that affects your servers. I was not loud, rude, or anything. No one approached my table after the drinks AT ALL! That is a blatant lie. Had anyone approached my table I would have gladly put my call on hold. I see my other concerns were not addressed except for the couple behind me and the man was black (Which is Another lie). I rarely leave bad review, they are mostly positive and happy. The response received was highly unprofessional and full of attitude, which further proves my point. I will happily never come back this establishment and would never recommend. I have added the original response from this establishment in case they try and edit:

Young lady let me tell you something...we are restaurant workers but we do deserve respect as a humans as well. First you attack my servers and you were wrong 100%. Then you try to pull race issue and wrong again. We all have our things but when human approaches out of respect we should acknowledge that person by stopping phone conversation for a moment. After checking camaras you came at 8:01 pm with a phone on your ear and you left 8:14 pm with a phone on your ear. Couple behind you... gentlemen was black and lady was white but to us that makes no difference we respect our guests equally don't mater their skin color or their origin. My servers served you a sprite and water and came 3 times at your table and you ignore them. You left and didn't pay for your sprite either and that's theft of service in a book of law. So best for our business and your self will be if you don't comeback to our establishment at all. We wish...

Well I've now enjoyed 2 meals in the last few days. We're staying at a hotel up on hill and earlier this week I wanted something easy and nearby. Italian Cafe hit the spot. The exterior is a little misleading, there is patio seating on 2 side and the structure sort of obscures your view inside. I parked behind the building in the parking garage which is reserved for those enjoying the nearby businesses. As I walked in I was surprised at everything going on. First there is a takeout/carry out area that looks like your walking into a Brooklyn pizza shop. Next you turn into a dining area and then on the other side and just off the side patio is a bar area. Attentive service from the wait staff as I choose a table. Order a water and glass of wine. Asked the waiter for help between the stuffed mushrooms and calamari, the calamari was suggested and I was not disappointed at all. $9+ for the order and it would have filled a table of 3-4 guests. Fried to perfection, lightly battered and cooked just enough to have a little bite as it should. While waiting on the app I was brought a basket with pizza dough knots and a herby mixture of olive oil. For my entree there were several options that caught my eye. Settled on the Seafood Risotto and again was not disappointed. The clams were small and a little lacking in substance but the scallops, shrimp and mussels made up for it. The scallops were just under cooked when the dish was served and once I stirred everyrhng together they were cooked to perfection.

Just stopped in for a quick bite for lunch, sat at the bar, order a draft beer and the Chicken Piccata. Turned down the bread knots (flying out for vacation, plenty of time for liquid carbs in the coming days? Beer was cold, food was plenty hot and if the Masters weren't on the TV I would have sat outside.

Ok this time they definitely got my order wrong. My job placed an order once again for our team meeting. This time because I knew they don't offer a low calorie healthy plain ol veggies and salmon meal on their menu (maybe they take special request if you call in one item but again this was a group order placed by management. No time to pacify everyone's special requests so I just ordered a small panzanella salad. Another coworker ordered a greek one. We ended up with 2 greek salads. Disappointing but once again tasted great nonetheless. My salad should've had prosciutto on it and a Dijon dressing. Definitely not what I got.

So I had to do this detailed review because i don't want anyone to end up like me thinking they were given the wrong item. I ordered the Salmon capricosa. The website says Pan roasted veggies and citrus sauce. That doesn't even come close to what you're getting because I was expecting a light and healthy dish. Just salmon and veggies no pasta no carbs while everyone else would end up with the pasta food baby. Haha BOY WAS I WRONG!!!! this comes with risotto (rice!!!) and a cream sauce. Very heavy! The veggies and salmon were cooked to perfection. It all tasted splendid together its just totally not what I wanted. It was part of sizeable to go order and so when it was handed to me I thought it was wrong. I called in later that day to ask what i was actually given and i was told what i got is the correct item. The citrus part just goes on the salmon itself in the cooking process. Wish they would add all the extra detail in the description of the item but oh...
