Coconut Joe's — Restaurant in Isle of Palms

WORST SERVICE/ EXPERIENCE I’VE HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! I’m not one to complain or to write a bad review unless it is beyond necessary to. Owner should fire the bartender Nae, who clearly hates her job and the company, treat’s customers like absolute trash! My husband and I came in her for a bite after the beach and the bartender “NAE” saw us seated for a couple of minutes, and we had just asked a simple question with no attitude if we could have the bar wiped because it was soaking wet from the people before we couldn’t even put our stuff down. She looks at us like we asked her something wrong and threw the towel on the counter, we thought she was joking at first. She walked away and came back, tapped on the towel giving us a nasty face and said for us to wipe it ourselves… we asked “ isn’t the worker supposed to wipe it?” She said “ excuse me?! I AM THE WORKER” like uhhhhh okay why are you giving me the rag? I wiped the counter myself because she refused to, I responded to her “ sorry we weren’t trying to come off rude, but we’ve just been sitting her for a bit and wanted to put our stuff down.” I’ve worked in the restaurant business myself over 9 years and never tried anyone like this in my life even if someone was being rude! I understand if it was taking a bit longer due to her being busy but she was walking back and forth with nothing to do and taking care of customer that came up after us, that’s why I thought I’d ask. we’ve never felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant like we did something wrong. My husband waited 20 minutes for his drink, a while new customer are coming up ordering and getting their drinks right away. She later brought us our food in a to go bag and said I thought I’d be best this way…. We were again beyond confused so we opened it up and started eating at the bar and she said she wants us to leave. My husband said she has no right to kick us out because we’ve done nothing wrong. And she yelled back “this is my bar, I can kick anyone out!” I asked her why she was acting this way towards us after we’ve done nothing wrong. I was sick to my stomach shocked someone would act like this toward another person. Another waitress, Jill, saw what was going on stepped in and apologized on the bartenders behalf asked if she could help us and get us a table to sit at. Other customers at the bar were in shock and saying the bartender, NAE, has no right to treat us like this. Jill got us a table right away took care very good care of us and repeatedly apologized for the whole situation. All of the other waitresses and hostess seemed very kind and happy to be there, I don’t care if the bartender was having a bad day, I still would never treat someone like that. Well, we had a party of 8, including 2 children, and went at about 6 pm on a non holiday weekday. The wait was 45 mins. It's kind of long considering how big the place was. Also, multiple parties of 6+ were leaving constantly. We had a elderly person with us who barely made it up the steps. They have an elevator, and as much as everything costs, it SHOULD be in working order. Big headache, just to find out it would take 45 min to get seated. After 50 mins, we were seated. The hostess was super nice and great with everyone from the kids to gma. But the waitress had very few people skills. Throughout the 45 min wait for food and the 30 mins to eat and clean up. We saw her about 3 times before food (once she was sitting on her phone at a random table, i had to walk over to her and ask for a drink) and maybe once after and of course to collect. The interactions were as if she literally couldn't care if the world was ending. Hardly any responses and zero small talk. At this point, they weren't busy. She said it's best to order the kids' food first because it sometimes comes out way late. Well, 25 min later, the kids' food comes out first. Then another 20 mins and finally our food came out. Now we have 2 bored kids, yay, we'll behaved but still ready to go home after a beach day. My party was nice and respectful but annoyed. Also, a different lady brought out some of the plates and even rolled her eyes when she handed a plate to the wrong person. As if she couldn't get it done fast enough. Between the kids, adults, and elderly, we had an array of food and the fish was like a 7/10. Everything else was at best mediocre. We will not be going there again as a large party. Maybe if the adults wanted drinks and little interaction then this is a great spot for the view. We still tipped 20% because maybe she was having a bad day. And we cleaned up the table, stacked and organized everything. Tucked in chairs etc.

Professionalism and hospitality were quite low. For the price, the wait times, lack of manners, and average quality food thats why the 3 stars. The location and view kept it from being 1-2. If this place weren't on the beach, it would have received a solid...
